Garton railway station

The Church of St Michael and all Angels, Garton on the Wolds, in the East Riding of Yorkshire is a church of medieval origins that was built c.1132 for the prior of Kirkham Abbey. Long connected to the Sykes family of Sledmere, Sir Tatton Sykes, 4th Baronet engaged John Loughborough Pearson to undertake a major reconstruction of the building in 1856–1857. Sykes son, the fifth baronet, employed George Edmund Street to design a series of murals for interior decoration, depicting a range of bible stories. The murals, "dirty and decaying" when Nikolaus Pevsner recorded the church in his 1972 East Yorkshire volume for the Buildings of England series, were restored in 1985–1991 in Pevsner's memory by the Pevsner Memorial Trust. The church remains an active parish church and is a Grade I listed building.

Royal Air Force Driffield or RAF Driffield is a former Royal Air Force station in the East Riding of Yorkshire, in England. It lies about 2 miles (3 km) south-west of Driffield and 11 miles (18 km) north-west of Beverley. It is now operated by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, as the Driffield Training Area.

Elmswell is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 2 miles (3 km) north-west of the town of Driffield. It lies just to the south of the A166 road. It forms part of the civil parish of Garton on the Wolds. Elmswell Old Hall was designated a Grade II* listed building in 1966 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England.

Kirkburn is a small village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated about 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Driffield town centre and is on the A614 road. The civil parish is formed by the village of Kirkburn and the hamlets of Eastburn, Kelleythorpe and Southburn. According to the 2011 UK census, Kirkburn parish had a population of 903, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 492.

Eastburn is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Kirkburn, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated in the Yorkshire Wolds on the A164 road, approximately 2.5 miles (4 km) south-west of Driffield town centre and 3 miles (5 km) north-west of the village of Hutton Cranswick. In 1931 the parish had a population of 27.

Southburn is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Kirkburn, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated in the Yorkshire Wolds just south of the A164 road, approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) south-west of Driffield and 2.5 miles (4 km) north-west of Hutton Cranswick. In 1931 the parish had a population of 116. From 1890 until 1954 Southburn was served by Southburn railway station on the Selby to Driffield Line.

Tibthorpe is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. According to the 2011 UK census, Tibthorpe parish had a population of 157, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 162. It is 5 miles (8 km) to the west of Driffield on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, it lies on the B1248 road between the villages of Bainton to the south and Wetwang to the north. High Wood and Low Wood to the south are a haven for wildlife. The village has a long history stretching back to before the Domesday Book when it was known as Tibetorp. It is recorded that centuries ago monks from Watton Abbey pastured sheep around the village and could rest at a 'chapel of ease' located in the village. The village has no pub, school or church. There was once a Methodist Chapel, built in 1823, that was demolished some years ago, along with a number of 18th century cottages, during road construction. In the past several small businesses flourished in the village, including a cobbler, a fishmonger, a milkman, a butcher and a fruiterer as well as a village store and blacksmith.

Southburn railway station was a railway station on the Selby to Driffield Line. It opened on 1 May 1890 and served the villages of Southburn and Kirkburn in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It closed on 20 September 1954 but the line remained open as a through route for excursions until complete closure on 14 June 1965. Little remains of the station with the exception of the platform edges and the station cottages. A farm building occupies the place of the demolished station building.

Little Driffield is a small village in the civil parish of Driffield, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated on the western outskirts of Great Driffield, to the west of the A614 road and south of the A166 road.

The Borough of East Yorkshire was one of nine local government districts of the county of Humberside, England from 1 April 1974 to 1 April 1996. The district was created as North Wolds, but was renamed by resolution of the council on 1 February 1981 (the Borough of Beverley was renamed to include 'East Yorkshire' in its name the same year, leading to the borough's councillors accusing North Wolds councillors of "usurping" the name). North Wolds council had made an earlier attempt in 1973, a year before it formally came into existence, to be named "Bridlington and Yorkshire Wolds", however this was struck down by the Department of the Environment. The district was formed under the Local Government Act 1972 by the amalgamation of a number of areas formerly in the administrative county of Yorkshire, East Riding: namely the municipal borough of Bridlington, Driffield urban district, Driffield Rural District, Pocklington Rural District and most of Bridlington Rural District. The district was abolished in 1996, and merged into the new East Riding of Yorkshire local government district, which covers a much larger area.

Driffield was a rural district in the East Riding of Yorkshire in England from 1894 to 1974. It surrounded the municipal borough of Driffield. The district was created by the Local Government Act 1894. It picked up part of the Great Driffield Urban District when that was abolished in 1935 by a County Review Order made under the Local Government Act 1929. At the same time parts of the district were transferred to Driffield Urban District and Norton Rural District while gaining parts of Pocklington Rural District. It was abolished in 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972. The district was transferred to the new district of North Wolds in Humberside.
