Weston, Australian Capital Territory

Weston Creek is a district in the Australian Capital Territory in Australia. The district is subdivided into divisions (suburbs), sections and blocks. The district comprises eight residential suburbs, situated to the west of the Woden Valley district and approximately 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) southwest of the Canberra City centre. Situated adjacent to the district was the large Stromlo Forest pine plantation until the forest was destroyed by bushfires in 2001 and 2003. Weston Creek was named in honour of Captain George Edward Weston, a former officer of the East India Company who arrived in Australia in 1829, and was Superintendent of the Hyde Park Convict Barracks in Sydney. In 1841, Weston was granted land in the district now known as Weston Creek.At the 2021 census, the population of the district was 24,630.

Cooleman Court, sometimes known colloquially as "Coolo", is a sub-regional shopping centre located in the Weston Creek suburb of Weston, Australia. Cooleman Court offers a total of 80 stores and facilities, spanning indoor and outdoor space, replicating something of a town square. Its major tenant is Woolworths. Other retailers in the centre include Aldi, The Reject Shop, Best & Less, Bakers Delight and BWS.

The Association of Modern Education School (or AME School) was opened in early 1972 and ran as an independent community based school in Canberra until late 1996.

Oakey Hill is a hill near Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. It rises 80 metres (260 ft) above the adjacent south Canberra suburbs of Lyons, Curtin and Weston, and its 66 hectares (163 acres) is one of 33 areas which form Canberra Nature Reserve. The highest point of the hill, 684 metres above sea level, is marked by a survey station. The hill’s name is thought to come from the stands of she oaks (casuarinas, Allocasuarina verticillata) growing on the hill, mainly on the eastern side.About half of Oakey Hill is open space with a mix of native and exotic grasses, while the remainder is bushland with stands of native eucalypts including yellow box and Blakely’s red gum. A number of walking tracks circle or cross the hill. The walking tracks are popular with day walkers and they also see some cycle and equestrian traffic. The walks are generally rated as easy with some short steep climbs. The views from the summit are impressive: east to Red Hill and Isaacs Ridge, north to Scrivener Dam and Mt Painter and the Belconnen hills, northeast beyond the Captain Cook memorial water jet towards Mount Ainslie and Mount Majura, and west over Cooleman Ridge to the Brindabellas.

Stirling is a suburb of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia. It is located in the Weston Creek district. The suburb is named after Sir James Stirling (1791–1865) who was the first Governor of Western Australia between 1829–1839 and established settlements at Perth and Fremantle in 1829. The suburb was gazetted in 1970. Its streets are named after Western Australian pioneers.Stirling contains the Weston Campus of the Canberra College, which is located on Fremantle Drive.

Waramanga () (postcode: 2611) is a suburb of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia in the district of Weston Creek. Waramanga was established in the late-1960s and was named after the Warumungu people of Central Australia.

Mount Stromlo High School is a public high school located in Waramanga, Australian Capital Territory. Mount Stromlo came into being after the merger of Weston Creek high school & Holder high school in 1990. The school is a traditional coeducational public school for students in year 7-10 aged 12-16.

Lyons is a suburb in the Canberra, Australia district of Woden. The postcode is 2606. The suburb was named after Joseph Lyons, Labor Premier of Tasmania from 1923 to 1928 and a Minister in the James Scullin government from 1929 until his resignation from the Labor Party in March 1931. He subsequently led the United Australia Party and was the tenth Prime Minister of Australia from January 1932 until his death in 1939. The suburb is bounded by Melrose Drive, Tuggeranong Parkway and Hindmarsh Drive. Oakey Hill Nature Reserve, part of Canberra Nature Park, is located within the suburb. The reserve has a number of walking trails and views across Woden and Weston Creek and into Civic. The suburb has a local shopping centre and neighbourhood oval. A former petrol station has since been demolished. Lyons Early Learning School caters for children from birth to grade two through an on-site childcare provider amalgamated with the school.Streets in Lyons are named after locations in Tasmania.

The Australian Defence College (ADC) comprises three joint education and training organisations operated by the Australian Defence Force in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory: the War College, the Australian Defence Force Training Centre (ADFTC), and the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA).The ADC is commanded by a two-star officer, currently Major General Mick Ryan since January 2018. Each of the educational organisations is commanded by a one-star officer or Colonel (equivalent), titled Commandant of their organisation. In 2019, the Australian Defence College implemented its biggest organisational reform in almost two decades. The changes included the amalgamation of the Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies and the Australian Command and Staff College to form the Australian War College, to focus on Joint Professional Military Education. Individual training delivered by the Australian Defence Force Warfare Training Centre, Peace Operations Training Centre, Defence Force Chaplains College, Defence International Training Centre, and Defence Force School of Languages was centralised in the Australian Defence Force Training Centre. The first two organisations are sited at a campus at Weston, ACT.
