Perth Observatory

Mount Gunjin (1,308 feet (399 m)) is a point of high ground between Mundaring Weir and Kalamunda, south of the Mundaring Weir Road. It is north of Mount Dale and south west of Mundaring Weir. It was the location of a Western Australian Forestry Department fire-watching tower, which had a few names including Mount Gunjin lookout tower.The fire tower and hut site are identified in the Kattamordo Heritage Trail pamphlet as being constructed in 1921.Prior to the relocation of the Perth Observatory from Mount Eliza to Bickley, a site near Mount Gunjin had been considered for the observatory.In 1966 Mount Gunjin became the origin point in Western Australia for the National Geodetic Survey.

Pickering Brook is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kalamunda. Prior to 1949 it was a stopping place on the Upper Darling Range Railway. It was named after nearby Pickering Brook. The brook is named after an early settler, Captain Edward Picking whose name was sometimes recorded as Pickering. The suburb of Pickering Brook was officially created on 12 January 1973. Part of it was formerly known as Carilla.Like nearby areas such as Karragullen, Pickering Brook is primarily made up of various family-run orchards. The suburb was seriously under threat in December 2001 from a bushfire.In June 2008, the previously named Pickering Brook National Park associated with the locality was named Korung National Park.

Carmel is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kalamunda. Prior to 1949 it was a stopping place on the Upper Darling Range Railway. The railway siding was originally known as Green's Landing after Perth businessman Levi Green, who had moved into the area in 1844. In 1915, the name Carmel, meaning "park" or "garden of God" in Hebrew, was adopted.The transmission tower for Network 10 in Perth is located here.

Hacketts Gully is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kalamunda. It was officially named in 1972 and commemorates an early settler and market gardener, Thomas Hackett.

Bickley is a suburb located within the City of Kalamunda, in Perth, Western Australia. It is situated on the Darling Scarp and is known for the brook of the same name.Before 1949 it was a stopping place on the Upper Darling Range Railway. It was originally known as "Heidelburg" or "Heidelberg", but during World War I, Western Australian Government Railways and Tramways renamed it "Bickley" after a local pioneer Wallace Bickley.It has been the site of holiday and other sorts of camps.The Seven Network and Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Perth television transmission towers have been located there since the founding of television in Perth in 1959.Perth Observatory, originally situated in West Perth is also currently located in Bickley.It is also one of the major meteorological stations within the Perth Metropolitan Area due to its length of time of operation and location on the Darling Scarp.It is also the location of water reservoirs.

The Mundaring-Kalamunda Important Bird Area comprises a fragmented 137 km2 of land centred on the towns of Mundaring and Kalamunda in the Darling Scarp region of Western Australia. It lies inside, as well as adjacent to the Beelu National Park.

Beelu National Park is a national park east of Perth, Western Australia. Lying south of Mundaring, Western Australia, and west of the Mundaring Weir Road, it is part of the group of parks known as the Parks of the Darling Range. The park was formerly named Mundaring National Park. Mundaring National Park was established and gazetted in 1995 as part of the Protecting Our Old Growth Forests policy of the state government. The park was renamed in 2008 as an acknowledgement of the traditional owners of the area. The word Beelu is derived from the Noongar word for river or stream. The Beelu were the original people of the area, whose district was bounded by the Helena, Swan and Canning Rivers.The park contains an abundance of native flora including jarrah, marri, Zamia, bull Banksia, sheoak and grass tree.

Mundaring Weir is a concrete gravity dam (and historically the adjoining locality) located 39 kilometres (24 mi) from Perth, Western Australia in the Darling Scarp. The dam and reservoir form the boundary between the suburbs of Reservoir and Sawyers Valley. The dam impounds the Helena River.

Walliston is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kalamunda. Prior to 1949 it was a stopping place on the Upper Darling Range Railway. It was named after John and Emma Wallis, the area's first settlers who arrived in the 1880s. The name was applied by the Railway Department in 1915.In 2008 the Kalamunda shire redrew Walliston's suburb boundaries, resulting in Wallis Lane and the Wallis homestead, still occupied by descendants of John and Emma Wallis, no longer being considered part of the Suburb of Walliston. The Nine Network's Perth Television transmission tower is located here. This suburb's main feature is a light industrial area in the north-eastern part of the suburb, an Australia Post mail-processing centre, a Transperth bus depot, City of Kalamunda council equipment storage facilities, a large workshop and a few automotive specialists. Walliston Primary School is a public primary school in the suburb.

Mundaring Weir Hotel, is located in Mundaring, Western Australia. It is located adjacent to the formation of the former branch line to the weir - the Mundaring Weir Railway on a hill to the north, and above Mundaring Weir. It was previously known as the Reservoir Hotel, then the Goldfields Weir Hotel, has been in the area since 1898. It was a crucial location where C. Y. O'Connor stayed regularly during the construction of the weir. In the 1910s and 1920s due to the functioning railway access, it was regularly advertised as a weekender location.After a period of decline followed the closure of the branch railway in the early 1950s, as well as the gradual reduction of staff and employees of the weir, and gradual reduction in forestry operations over time.The current owner, Jens Jorgensen who bought it in 1984. It has been the location of annual concerts which included David Helfgott concerts during and after his recovered career as concert pianist.

Paulls Valley is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia within the City of Kalamunda. It was officially named in 1973 and commemorates Albert Paull, an early orchardist who settled in the district in 1914.Bounded to the north by the Helena River valley the main access to the locality is from the Mundaring Weir Road, which bounds Paulls Valley to the south.
