The Lower Helena Pipehead Dam, also known as the Lower Helena Pumpback Dam, catchment and pipeline are a part of the Goldfields Water Supply operations at Mundaring Weir, some distance east in the same valley, in the Darling Range in Western Australia. The suburb Helena Valley is a few kilometres downstream of the dam. The dam was first constructed in the early 1970s, on the Helena River at a location on the southern boundary of the suburb of Darlington, Western Australia. By the 1980s and 1990s, the catchment and water quality saw a number of studies and reports.Into the 2000s, further research continued, and the upper parts of the catchment area were being considered as restricted activity zones.

Piesse Brook is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the City of Kalamunda. It was officially named in 1972, although the name had been in use since 1890 for a watercourse in the area which honoured William Roper Piesse, a prominent citizen with a large family who were based in Guildford.

Darlington Arts Festival is a festival held annually in Darlington, Western Australia. The origins of the festival were in the 1950s, spawned from the relationship between the artists resident in Darlington and the local voluntary community fire brigade. It has been claimed to be one of the longest lasting community festivals in Perth, Western Australia.The festival includes an art exhibition in the local historic Darlington Hall and a fair on the adjacent cricket oval. The art exhibition has been the showcase of many new artists over the decades - from Darlington and elsewhere.Some reviewing of the event over time enjoys the foibles of the event.Many posters, promotional items and catalogues reflect the nature of the community, as well as showcasing some more notable artists and their legacies.Committee membership evolves with the community changes, however one of the longest serving members was Sally Herzfeld. The Mundaring-Kalamunda Important Bird Area comprises a fragmented 137 km2 of land centred on the towns of Mundaring and Kalamunda in the Darling Scarp region of Western Australia. It lies inside, as well as adjacent to the Beelu National Park.

The City of Kalamunda is a local government area in the eastern metropolitan region of the Western Australian capital city of Perth about 25 kilometres (16 mi) east of Perth's central business district. The area covers 324 square kilometres (125 sq mi), much of which is state forest rising into the Darling Scarp to the east. In the mid 2010s, the area had a population of 57 thousand people.

Kalamunda (Nyungar: Karlamarda) is a town and eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located in the Darling Scarp at the eastern limits of the Perth metropolitan area.

Glen Forrest is a suburb within the Shire of Mundaring, south of John Forrest National Park, west of Mahogany Creek, east of Darlington, and north of the Helena River. Its northern boundary is determined by the Great Eastern Highway. The area was originally named Smith's Mill, after A. C. Smith & Son's jarrah saw mill, established in October 1877. In 1915 local residents petitioned to change the area's name to Glen Forrest, to honour Sir John Forrest, first Premier of Western Australia.The suburb is bisected by a disused railway track - the original route of the Eastern Railway - which is now known as the Railway Reserve Heritage Trail, and Nyaania Creek. It has a number of significant conservation reserves including the Glen Forrest Super Block, which is adjacent to Ryecroft Road (the main connecting road to Darlington).The major early industries were forestry, and the Stathams Brickworks, which had its own siding, just east of the railway yard. The brickworks was located on a patch of white clay that is now a park and recreation area. It has two commercial areas - one adjacent to and just north of the former railway station site, and the other at the intersection of Hardey Road and Great Eastern Highway. Like Darlington to the west, Glen Forrest had at its earliest times a winery, Glen Hardey, on the valley edge down which Hardey Road passes.
