Kungsbacka

Kungsbacka Municipality (Kungsbacka kommun) is a municipality in Halland County on the Swedish west coast, some 30 km south of Gothenburg. The municipal seat is located in the town Kungsbacka. In 1969 Tölö was merged into the City of Kungsbacka. In 1971 the municipality was created when the city amalgamated with Särö. The final step was taken in 1974 when three more former municipalities were added to form the new entity. Kungsbacka Municipality is closely integrated in the region of Metropolitan Gothenburg, but despite this it is administratively not a part of Västra Götaland County like the rest of the region. A local geographical landmark is the glacial ridge Fjärås bräcka, to the south of Kungsbacka, but it is the coast that is the predominant geographical feature. The municipality receives its drinking water from the nearby lake Lygnern; the water undergoes a natural filtering process as it trickles through the ridge, contributing to its quality.

Onsala (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈʊ̂nːˌsɑːla] ) is a locality situated in Kungsbacka Municipality, Halland County, Sweden, with 11,951 inhabitants in 2010. It is also a 14 km long peninsula on the west coast of Sweden, facing Kattegat, 40 kilometres (25 mi) south of Gothenburg. It dates back to the age of the vikings and was originally an area devoted to the god Odin, the name being a corruption of the old norse Odin's Sala. In English "The Halls of Odin" The population is around 12-14,000 with a densely inhabited east coast, mainly consisting of single-family homes. The biggest village is Gottskär, in older days a fishing village, and which today has a few restaurants and a leisure boat harbour. Lars Gathenhielm was born in the old parish of Onsala. He was a Swedish privateer commissioned by the king to raid Danish ships. His wife, Ingela, took over his business as a privateer as a widow. They are interred in a basement crypt beneath the smaller tower of the church. Their white sarcophagi have carved "jolly rogers" at the foot end. Onsala is also home to the Onsala Space Observatory, the Swedish national radio observatory.

The Kungsbacka Fjord (Swedish: Kungsbackafjorden) is a fjord and a nature reserve in Halland County, western Sweden. The fjord is about 10 km long. It is delimited to the west by the Onsala Peninsula and to the east by the parish of Fjärås. The rivers Rolfsån and Kungsbackaån empty out into the fjord, which in turn opens to the Kattegat. The Kungsbacka Fjord Nature Reserve (Swedish: Kungsbackafjordens naturreservat), established in 2005, has an area of 5200 hectares and is included in the Natura 2000 network. More than 240 bird species have been noted, including the common redshank, the yellow wagtail, the tufted duck and the rare smew.
