Walden Veterans' Memorial Bridge

The Walden Low Bridge is the downstream of the two bridges over the Wallkill River in Walden, New York, United States. It gets its name from being lower to the river than the Walden High Bridge a short distance upstream (replaced in 2005 by the new Walden Veterans' Memorial Bridge). It is a steel continuous truss bridge built in 1987, the latest in a series of bridges at that location that have been in place for at least a century. At 349 feet (105.7 m) in length, it is the longest bridge over the river in Orange County that carries a surface road. Traffic on the bridge is low since it carries Oak Street, a local road, primarily residential, within the village. It is important to traffic circulation within Walden since its eastern approach is also the main entrance to the popular Thruway Market hypermarket complex. Drivers coming into Walden from the west or southwest also use it to cross the Wallkill and bypass downtown Walden via Thruway's parking lot, back entrance and Albany Avenue to NY 208 northbound. During the construction of the new bridge, NY 52 was temporarily rerouted onto Oak Street, and traffic lights were erected for the duration at the 52/Oak Street junction and the Thruway entrance, causing some congestion at rush hours.Like its counterpart, the Low Bridge is just downstream from a dam built to harness the river's power for industrial uses in the late 19th century. The shallows just below it are a popular place for anglers during the state fishing season.

The Jacob T. Walden Stone House is on North Montgomery Street (NY 52) near the intersection with Wait Street in Walden, New York. It was built around 1785, around the time the thousand-acre (400 ha) Gatehouse Patent was first sold, and is one of the oldest houses remaining in the area.In the 1820s, Jacob Treadwell Walden, a successful shipping merchant, came to the area from New York City and saw the potential of the Wallkill River for powering textile mills. With him, he brought Jesse Scofield and Dr. Seth Capron who had expertise in running woolen mills. They formed the Franklin Company to finance mills in Walden and dammed the Wallkill [which runs through the middle of Walden] above the falls, creating a power station that remains in use today. He resided there with his family beginning in the 1820s until sometime after 1840. (See U.S. Federal Census for 1840) On the waning of the textile mills, he returned to New York City and died there in 1855. The village of Walden, New York bears Jacob Walden's name.The Jacob T. Walden House houses the Walden Historical Society, and is open to the public as a museum on a limited basis. In 2005, the exterior underwent extensive restoration.

Walden is the largest of three villages of the town of Montgomery in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 6,818 at the 2020 census. It has the ZIP Code 12586 and the 778 telephone exchange within the 845 area code. Walden is part of the Poughkeepsie−Newburgh−Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York−Newark−Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area. The precursor to the village began in the early 18th century as a mill town along the Wallkill River. One miller, Jacob Walden, was so successful the village that incorporated in the mid-19th century took its name from him. Later, it would be the village's three knife manufacturers that brought it growth and prosperity. They are gone today, but other industrial concerns remain.

The John R. Hays House is located on Maple Street in Walden, New York. Hayes, a prominent local businessman of the late 19th century and officer in the 124th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, built it in a Second Empire style. It has been largely unaltered since its original construction. In 2002 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

The Gilbert Millspaugh House is located on Church Street in Walden, New York, United States. It is a 2005 addition to the National Register of Historic Places, built in a Victorian style for a local man named Richard Masten. Later it was home to Gilbert Millspaugh, son of a local furniture retailer. It is an unusual use of the Second Empire style for a small-scale cottage-style primary residence. The house retains many of its original features, such as its fireplace, mansard roof and carriage barn in the back. The latter is considered a contributing property to the house's historic character.

The Bodine Farmhouse is located on Wallkill Road just outside the village of Walden in the Town of Montgomery, Orange County, New York, United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Tin Brook is a 9-mile-long (14 km) tributary of the Wallkill River almost entirely located in the town of Montgomery in Orange County, New York, United States, where it drains 19.2 square miles (50 km2). Near its mouth it flows through the village of Walden. It is one of the few named tributaries of the Wallkill that drain into it from the lowlands between it and the Hudson River to the east, rather than the Shawangunk Ridge to the west. Several possible origins have been proposed for the name, which appeared on local maps as early as 1774. The most likely points to an early landowner along the midlands of the stream variously named John Tinne, Thinne or even John Tinbrook. Another theory suggests that it was named by the Dutch settlers who were the first European inhabitants of the Hudson Valley and that it comes from the words meaning "thin breeches" in that language. Supposedly one of them had reconnoitered south from New Paltz and found the soils around the brook to be thin, or insufficiently deep for the kind of farming they preferred.

The Dubois-Phelps House is a farmhouse located off Wallkill Road outside of the village of Walden in the Town of Montgomery, New York, United States. It is in the center of Riverside Farm, close to the Wallkill River. The original farmhouse was built sometime in the 18th century. In 1851, Nathaniel DuBois bought it and renovated it extensively in the Greek Revival style, creating the building as it exists today. The Phelps family, its current occupant, bought the property from his descendants in 1922.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

The Walden–Wallkill Rail Trail, also known as the Jesse McHugh Rail Trail, is a 3.22-mile (5.18 km) rail trail between the village of Walden, New York and the neighboring hamlet of Wallkill. The two communities are located in Orange and Ulster counties, respectively, in upstate New York. The trail, like the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail to the north, is part of the former Wallkill Valley Railroad's rail corridor. The land was purchased by the towns of Montgomery and Shawangunk in 1985 and converted to a public trail. The portion of the trail in Shawangunk was formally opened in 1993 and named after former town supervisor Jesse McHugh. Plans to pave the trail between Walden and Wallkill were discussed since 2001, and the route was finally paved between 2008 and 2009. The trail includes an unofficial, unimproved section to the north of Wallkill, and is bounded by NY 52 and NY 208.

Peachcroft, sometimes referred to as the James Wilson Brown House, is located along River Road (Orange County Route 29) between Walden and Montgomery in the Town of Montgomery, New York, United States. It is built in a combination of the Federal and Queen Anne architectural styles. The former came from Brown, the original builder of the house; the latter from renovations by the Millspaugh family, who moved in in the later 19th century and established many businesses, among them a furniture store still in business Walden. Peachcroft remains the center of a working farm of almost a hundred acres that backs on the Wallkill River. In 1994 it and three outbuildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Benjamin Haines House, also known as the Haines Farmstead and the Haddon-Scott House, is one of the oldest buildings in the Town of Montgomery in Orange County, New York, United States. It is located at 114 Coleman Road southeast of the village of Walden.Built by Haines around 1750, the house later passed into the ownership of the Haddon and then Scott families. Members of the latter owned it until 1994. Improvements and renovations in the early 19th century gave it a Greek Revival look.It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1996.

Milliken-Smith Farm is a historic home and farm complex located at Montgomery in Orange County, New York. Contributing buildings include the Milliken-Smith house (built in 1770 and expanded about 1870), a large timber-frame barn dated to the 18th century, a light frame chicken house (c. 1900), and a banded wood storage silo. The earliest portion of the house is a 1+1⁄2-story timber-frame building. It was expanded during the 1870s with a 2-story light frame addition. A non-historic addition was completed in 1962.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
