Doncaster Carr rail depot (also known as Doncaster Train Maintenance Centre) is a railway vehicle maintenance depot located alongside the East Coast Main Line in Doncaster, England. It is presently operated by Hitachi as part of their contract to maintain the AT300 units for London North Eastern Railway and TransPennine Express. The original facility Doncaster Locomotive depot was a major 12 road steam locomotive maintenance shed built by the Great Northern Railway (GNR) in 1876. The shed remained in use under the successor companies London and North Eastern Railway and British Railways, being significantly modified in the mid 1950s; steam locomotive use at the shed ended in the 1960s. Until the facility was selected as a maintenance depot for the new AT300 fleet, the depot was used for diesel locomotive maintenance.

Doncaster International Railport, sometimes referred to as Doncaster Europort is a 12 acres (5 ha) intermodal rail terminal in Doncaster, England, located on the East Coast Main Line close to the M18 motorway and its junction with the A1(M) road. It was built in 1995 as part of a 26 acres (11 ha) development site originally known as Direct for Europe Doncaster.

Doncaster UTC is a university technical college in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England which opened in September 2020.The college is sponsored by the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and local employers. It specialises in engineering, particularly railway engineering, and its newly constructed building in the town centre has capacity for 750 students.The UTC received a "Good" Ofsted inspection in 2022.

The 1947 Doncaster rail crash was a fatal rail incident that occurred just south of Doncaster station at Bridge Junction. A train was signalled onto an occupied line and the ensuing collision resulted in 18 deaths and 188 injuries. Both trains and signalling were operated by the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER).

The Doncaster rail crash was a railway accident that took place near to Doncaster, England. On 16 March 1951 the 10:04 Doncaster to London King's Cross consisting of 14 coaches (and a horse box at the rear) hauled by a LNER Thompson Class A2/2 No 60501 Cock o' the North locomotive left the station. Shortly afterwards the train was negotiating a tight crossover with a speed limit of 10 mph. The driver claimed he took the crossover at around 15 mph as he had done previously but the 3rd coach derailed. The leading end of the coach followed the front of the train and went to the right of a pier supporting Balby Bridge (which carries a road junction over the line), but the rear of the coach, propelled by the weight of the following train went to the left, wrapping the coach around the pier, killing 14 passengers and seriously injuring 12 others.

Our Lady of Doncaster is a Marian shrine located in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. The original statue in the Carmelite friary was destroyed during the English Reformation. A modern shrine was erected in St Peter-in-Chains Church (or spelt as St Peter in Chains), Doncaster in 1973. The feast day of Our Lady of Doncaster is 4 June.

Doncaster (St. James' Bridge) railway station was situated in the Hexthorpe area of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England and was accessed from St. James' Bridge, the main road link between Doncaster town centre and the railway community of Hexthorpe. The station was a little nearer Doncaster than the South Yorkshire Railway's Doncaster (Cherry Tree Lane) railway station being less than a mile south of the main station, adjacent to the Sheffield line. The station, which consisted of a single island platform, was built by the LNER to serve excursion traffic, principally that bringing visitors to the town in connection with the St. Leger horse racing festival held each September although it was also used for seaside excursions leaving (or passing through) the town heading for the east coast, principally to Cleethorpes. (Those not required to stop would usually be routed via the Doncaster Avoiding Line due to pressure of space). This station, adjacent to carriage sidings where incoming trains could be stored also relieved the pressure of platform space in the town's main station. Access was by a substantial wooden ramp, stepped on one side, plain slope for cyclists on the other, from St. James' Bridge, a favourite place for trainspotters with views over the East Coast Main Line and the Sheffield bound line. Platform facilities were minimal and consisted of a small office, used by the staff which came from the main station as needed. Because the station never had a regular timetabled service it did not appear in timetables, only in "Special Traffic Notices" when it was to be used. This also means that closure notices were not required when it was no longer needed by the demands of traffic and an official closure date not recorded. The station platforms were not removed on closure and were in situ until changes were made to the track layout in the area in the late 1990s.

The City of Doncaster is a metropolitan borough with city status in South Yorkshire, England. It is named after its principal settlement, Doncaster, and includes the surrounding suburbs of Doncaster as well as numerous towns and villages. The district has large amounts of countryside; at 219 square miles (570 km2), it is the largest metropolitan borough in England by area. The largest settlement in the borough are Doncaster itself, followed by the towns of Thorne, Hatfield and Mexborough (the latter of which is part of the Barnsley/Dearne Valley built-up area), and it additionally covers the towns of Conisbrough, Stainforth, Bawtry, Askern, Edlington and Tickhill. Doncaster borders North Yorkshire to the north, the East Riding of Yorkshire to the north-east, North Lincolnshire to the east, Bassetlaw in Nottinghamshire to the south-east, Rotherham to the south-west, Barnsley to the west, and Wakefield, West Yorkshire, to the north-west. It is part of the Yorkshire and the Humber region. The borough was created on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, as a merger of the former County Borough of Doncaster, the urban districts of Adwick-le-Street, Bentley with Arksey, Conisbrough, Mexborough, and Tickhill, Doncaster and Thorne rural districts, and the parish of Finningley from East Retford Rural District and small parts of the parish of Harworth from Worksop Rural District from Nottinghamshire.

Doncaster was a rural district in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England from 1894 to 1974. The rural district was created by the Local Government Act 1894 as successor to the Doncaster Rural Sanitary District. It consisted of an area surrounding, but not including, the town of Doncaster. Doncaster itself formed a separate municipal borough (from 1927 a county borough). The district underwent a number of boundary changes over its existence due to the expansion of Doncaster and the growth of a number of other towns.Doncaster Rural District Council were granted armorial bearings on 30 October 1947.
