Rhodes Minnis

Lyminge is a village in southeast Kent, England. It lies about five miles (8 km) from Folkestone and the Channel Tunnel, on the road passing through the Elham Valley. At the 2011 Census the population of Etchinghill was included. The Nailbourne stream begins in the village and flows north through the Valley, to become one of the tributary streams of the Great Stour. The hamlet of Ottinge lies to the NE on the road to Elham. Lyminge is home to the Grade II* listed Sibton Park, now owned by the Holiday Property Bond but previously a school. The village is surrounded by farmland and ancient forests. There is a wide variety of flora and fauna in the surrounding area, including badgers, various species of deer along with wild boar which are thought to have escaped from farmed populations. Lyminge was a royal centre of the Kingdom of Kent of Anglo-Saxon England and a church was founded in 633.

Lyminge Abbey was an abbey about four miles northwest of Folkestone on the south coast of Kent. It was one of the first religious houses to be founded in England.

Lyminge was a station on the Elham Valley Railway. It opened in 1887 and finally closed to passengers and freight in 1947.

Ottinge is a hamlet located NNW of Folkestone in Kent, England. It lies less than one mile (1 km) from the village of Lyminge and occupies a site at a crossroads between that village and Elham (where, at the 2011 Census, the population was included).

Newbarn is a hamlet around a crossroads northwest of Etchinghill in Kent, England. Etchinghill Golf Club is on the road between the two. Tolsford Hill BT Tower can clearly be seen on Tolsford Hill to the south. It is in the civil parish of Postling.

Davison's Mill, also known as Stelling Minnis Windmill, is a Grade I listed smock mill in Stelling Minnis, Kent, England that was built in 1866. It was the last windmill working commercially in Kent when it closed in the autumn of 1970. The mill is managed by the Stelling Minnis Windmill and Museum Trust, which came into being on 26 January 2010. It is open to visitors each year from Easter Sunday to the end of September on Sundays and Bank Holidays, from 2pm to 5pm. Its grounds host the annual Stelling Minnis fete.

Farthing Common is an area of common land about 10 km northwest of Folkestone in East Kent. It is one of the highest points of the North Downs at 185 metres above sea level, and was the junction of the ancient trackway along the Downs from Folkestone, with the Roman road (now the B2068 Stone Street) between Lympne and Canterbury. From the common there are extensive views across Kent and on a clear day it is possible to see as far as the Cliffs at Fairlight in Sussex and even the South Downs. Just east of Farthing Common are Postling Downs which is a rich area of semi-improved chalk grassland with a variety of plant species including orchids. Farthing Common saw the final King of the Mountains climb during the first stage of the 2007 Tour de France, which was held in Kent. The climb was taken by Stéphane Augé.

Stelling Minnis is a village and civil parish in the Folkestone and Hythe district in Kent, England. The village lies 13 kilometres (8 mi) to the south of Canterbury, and to the east of the B2068, Stone Street, the Roman road, which takes traffic between Lympne and Canterbury.

Postling village and civil parish is situated near the Roman road of Stone Street, about 17 miles (27 km) south of Canterbury, Kent, in South East England. Postlinges is the spelling used in the Domesday Book where it was part of the lands of Hugo de Montfort; Postlinge is also seen in old records. There is much archaeological evidence of continued occupation of the area. Postling Court is, in effect, the old manor-house, although is, more correctly as the name suggests, the one-time meeting place of the local court and magistrate. The population of the civil parish includes the hamlet of Newbarn. The parish church is dedicated to Saints Mary and Radegund. It is a Grade I listed building. The oldest parts are from the late 11th or 12th century.A junction south of the village is known as Postling Wents; "went" or "vent" is an older Kent word which means "ways". It was once the crossroads where the London to Folkestone road crossed the Lympne to Lyminge road, but is now a sharp bend on the A20.

Elham (pronounced Eel-um) is a village and civil parish in East Kent situated approximately 9 miles (14 km) south of Canterbury and 5 miles (8 km) north west of Folkestone in the Elham Valley. At the 2011 Census the population included the hamlet of Ottinge and village of Wingmore.

The Elham Valley is a chalk valley carved by the River Nailbourne situated in the North Downs in East Kent. The valley is named after the settlement of Elham. Other settlements in the valley include Etchinghill, Lyminge, Barham, Kingston, Bishopsbourne and Bridge. Located in the upper slopes of the valley are a number of examples of unimproved chalk downland such as Baldock Downs and Park Gate Down. At Bishopsbourne and North Lyminge there are examples of traditional sheep-grazed pasture and water meadow.
