Lyminge Abbey

Lyminge is a village in southeast Kent, England. It lies about five miles (8 km) from Folkestone and the Channel Tunnel, on the road passing through the Elham Valley. At the 2011 Census the population of Etchinghill was included. The Nailbourne stream begins in the village and flows north through the Valley, to become one of the tributary streams of the Great Stour. The hamlet of Ottinge lies to the NE on the road to Elham. Lyminge is home to the Grade II* listed Sibton Park, now owned by the Holiday Property Bond but previously a school. The village is surrounded by farmland and ancient forests. There is a wide variety of flora and fauna in the surrounding area, including badgers, various species of deer along with wild boar which are thought to have escaped from farmed populations. Lyminge was a royal centre of the Kingdom of Kent of Anglo-Saxon England and a church was founded in 633.

Lyminge was a station on the Elham Valley Railway. It opened in 1887 and finally closed to passengers and freight in 1947.

Newbarn is a hamlet around a crossroads northwest of Etchinghill in Kent, England. Etchinghill Golf Club is on the road between the two. Tolsford Hill BT Tower can clearly be seen on Tolsford Hill to the south. It is in the civil parish of Postling.

Etchinghill is a village in Kent, England, about 5 km north of Hythe, and 1 km north of the Channel Tunnel terminal at Cheriton, near Folkestone. It is in the civil parish of Lyminge. The village has a standard golf course noted for its hills, as well as a pub restaurant called The New Inn which claims to be the closest pub to the Channel Tunnel. Village facilities include a basketball court, two football goals, and a village hall. A large BT Group communication mast, which was used as a telecommunication relay during the Cold War, still stands in the village.

Ottinge is a hamlet located NNW of Folkestone in Kent, England. It lies less than one mile (1 km) from the village of Lyminge and occupies a site at a crossroads between that village and Elham (where, at the 2011 Census, the population was included).

Tolsford Hill BT Tower is a telecommunication tower built of reinforced concrete at Tolsford Hill on the North Downs near Folkestone, Kent. Tolsford Hill BT Tower is one of the few British towers built of reinforced concrete and is 67.36 metres ( 221 ft) high.

Great Shuttlesfield Down is a 21.8-hectare (54-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north of Folkestone in Kent.This unimproved grassland is dominated by Sheep's fescue, upright brome and tor-grass, and it is grazed by sheep and cattle. Notable invertebrates are the rare adonis blue butterfly and two solitary wasps, crossocerus cetratus and crossocerus styrius.The site is private land but a public footpath from Lyminge crosses the northern end.

Rhodes Minnis is a village near Folkestone in Kent, England, located between Lyminge and Stelling Minnis. It is in the civil parish of Elham. It was a gathering place for some of the Swing Riots organizers from Lyminge during the 1830s.

Folkestone and Hythe () is a constituency in Kent represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Damian Collins, a Conservative.Since its creation in 1950, Folkestone and Hythe has elected a Conservative MP at every general election; it is therefore regarded as a Conservative safe seat.

Beachborough Manor is a manor in Beachborough, near Folkestone, in Kent. It was developed into a small landed estate, generally known as Beachborough Park, at the heart of which was Beachborough House. The current house dates from 1813 and is now owned by the Wallis family. The estate has a well-developed wildlife centre, an equestrian centre and a bed and breakfast (B&B). [1] The estate passed through several generations of the English Brockman family. Like many buildings in the UK, it found use in World War II by the Allies, as an American hospital. It later became Stowe College and served in that capacity for several years. Prime Minister David Lloyd George lived there in the early 20th century. The suburb of Beechboro, Western Australia has been named after Beachborough manor, when Henry Brockman of Gingin, the owner of part of Swan Locations, first subdivided that land into farmlets.[2]

Postling village and civil parish is situated near the Roman road of Stone Street, about 17 miles (27 km) south of Canterbury, Kent, in South East England. Postlinges is the spelling used in the Domesday Book where it was part of the lands of Hugo de Montfort; Postlinge is also seen in old records. There is much archaeological evidence of continued occupation of the area. Postling Court is, in effect, the old manor-house, although is, more correctly as the name suggests, the one-time meeting place of the local court and magistrate. The population of the civil parish includes the hamlet of Newbarn. The parish church is dedicated to Saints Mary and Radegund. It is a Grade I listed building. The oldest parts are from the late 11th or 12th century.A junction south of the village is known as Postling Wents; "went" or "vent" is an older Kent word which means "ways". It was once the crossroads where the London to Folkestone road crossed the Lympne to Lyminge road, but is now a sharp bend on the A20.
