Birches Head

Birches Head Academy (formerly Birches Head High School) is an 11–16 mixed, secondary school with academy status in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. It is part of the Frank Field Education Trust.

Holden Viaduct, in Sneyd Green, Stoke-on-Trent, carries the A5272, here called Hanley Road. It spans a cutting through which runs Leek New Road, the A53. On each side of the viaduct is a ramp leading down to the A53. Although it is officially a viaduct, it is quite short and has only one span. It is usually known as "Holden Bridge". It is a notable feature for motorists travelling along Leek New Road, which is perfectly straight here. A plaque on the balustrade reads: City of Stoke-on-Trent, Holden Viaduct. This bridge was opened by Mrs J W Oakes on the 14th July 1930, and was erected to replace the original structure built in 1844. A short way north-east along Leek New Road, at the junction with Berwick Road, there was until recently a pub called The Holden Bridge; it closed in 2007, and has since been demolished.

Smallthorne Urban District was an urban district in Staffordshire, England. It was initially formed of the Smallthorne civil parish. In 1904 the Chell and Milton civil parishes were added. It was abolished in 1922 with the bulk of it becoming part of the county borough of Stoke-on-Trent. After absorption, the area of the UDC was divided into two wards for election of local councillors. Ward 27 covered Smallthorne, Bradeley, Norton-in-the-Moors, Ball Green, Fegg Hayes, and Brindley Ford. Ward 28 included Milton, Abbey Hulton and Bucknall.

Excel Academy (formerly Holden Lane High School) is a mixed secondary school located in Sneyd Green, Stoke on Trent, England. It was established in 1963 and educates pupils of ages 11–16. Situated in the north of Stoke-on-Trent, the school has a catchment from the neighbourhoods of Sneyd Green, Milton, Baddeley Green, Norton-in-the-Moors, and Ball Green. The socio-economic circumstances of the area the school serves are below average. The vast majority of students are White British. The academy is the school of choice for an increasing number of parents/carers and is over subscribed.

Hanley is one of the six towns that, along with Burslem, Longton, Fenton, Tunstall and Stoke-upon-Trent, amalgamated to form the City of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England. Hanley is the de facto city centre, having long been the commercial hub of Stoke-on-Trent. It is home to the Potteries Shopping Centre and many high street chain stores.

Bucknall and Northwood railway station was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway in 1864 to serve the Bucknall area of Stoke-on-Trent. Situated on the company's Biddulph Valley line, the station was served by passenger trains between Stoke and Congleton on the Biddulph Valley line and by trains between Stoke and Leek on the Stoke-Leek line. Passenger services on the Biddulph line ceased in 1927, but services on the Leek line continued until May 1956. After this date the station was still used for special and excursion trains until complete closure in 1962.The line to Leek remained in use (as far as Leekbrook) until 1988 and the track remains in place and it is planned for the line to reopen under plans put forward by Moorland & City Railways.

Northwood is an older residential area of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. It is home to Northwood Stadium, the ground of City of Stoke Athletics Club.

City Sentral was a planned major retail and leisure development in city of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. It was proposed by Realis Estates, and was a planned 650,000 sq ft (60,000 m2) regional shopping centre which was due to open in 2016. The centre was to include a Marks & Spencer department store, a wide range of new stores and shops, cafés and restaurants, 'vibrant public spaces', a Cineworld cinema complex, an 80-room hotel, parking for 1,000 cars and a new bus station.City Sentral's proposed catchment comprised 870,000 people with more than 360,000 people living within 20 minutes drive of the city centre.The architects for the bus station were Grimshaw Architects and Benoy was working on City Sentral. The branding of the proposed shopping centre divided residents in the city with many suggesting the deliberate misspelling of the word 'central' was unnecessary and open to ridicule. City councillors were asked to support a motion demanding Realis changed the name but it was rejected on the grounds that it may deter inward investment.

Hanley Town Football Club is a football club based in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, England. They are currently members of the Northern Premier League Division One West and play at Potteries Park.

Abbey Hulton United Football Club is a football club based in Abbey Hulton, in Stoke-on-Trent, England. They are currently members of the North West Counties League Division One South and play at Birches Head Road.

Hanley Town Hall is a municipal building in Albion Square in Hanley, Staffordshire, England. The building, which is used as the local register office, is a Grade II listed building.
