Lake Wylie

Lake Wylie is a census-designated place (CDP) in York County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 8,841 at the 2010 census. Lake Wylie is located on a peninsula along the shore of Lake Wylie, a reservoir that was named for Dr. W. Gil Wylie in 1960. It is a suburb of Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Buster Boyd Bridge is a four-lane automobile bridge spanning the Catawba River/Lake Wylie between Lake Wylie, York County, South Carolina and Steele Creek, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The bridge carries/connects SC 49 and NC 49, which is utilized by mostly local traffic. A sidewalk, along the east facing side of the bridge, provides pedestrian access.

The Catawba Nuclear Station is a nuclear power plant located on a 391-acre (158 ha) peninsula, called "Concord Peninsula", that reaches out into Lake Wylie, in York, South Carolina, US. Catawba utilizes a pair of Westinghouse four-loop pressurized water reactors.As a part of the Megatons to Megawatts Program Catawba was one of the plants that received and tested 4 fuel assemblies containing MOX fuel with the plutonium supplied from old weapons programs. Because concerns of nuclear proliferation are greater with fuel containing plutonium, special precautions and added security were used around the new fuel. The four test assemblies did not perform as expected and at present those plans are shelved.

McDowell Nature Preserve, formerly known as McDowell Park, is a city park and nature preserve in southwestern Charlotte, North Carolina on the shores of Lake Wylie. The park features forested hiking trails, rental campsites, fishing, boat access and a nature center.

Nanny Mountain is a mountain summit in York County in the state of South Carolina (SC). Nanny Mountain climbs to an elevation of 981 feet (299 m) above sea level. The mountain is located near Lake Wylie and was privately owned, but now it is currently open to the public from 8am to 6pm and the park is owned and operated by York County Parks.

Balloon is an historic community located in York County, South Carolina, United States. It was founded in 1889 and abandoned in 1903.

Tega Cay is a planned city in York County, South Carolina, United States, located west of Fort Mill and north of Rock Hill. It is a suburb of Charlotte, North Carolina. The population was recorded at 12,832 as of the 2020 U.S. Census. Tega Cay is located on a peninsula along Lake Wylie, twenty miles south of Charlotte. The name Tega Cay allegedly comes from an unknown Polynesian language and means "Beautiful Peninsula", however, this is unconfirmed.

The South Fork Catawba River (better known as the South Fork River) begins south of Hickory, North Carolina just northwest of the intersection of US Highway 321 and North Carolina Highway 10, at the confluence of the Henry Fork and Jacob Fork. The South Fork Catawba River travels 48.5 miles, passing along the communities of Lincolnton, High Shoals, McAdenville, and Cramerton, to Lake Wylie where its now submerged confluence with the Catawba River lies near the North Carolina and South Carolina border. Signage on roadways crossing the river acknowledge it as the "South Fork River". The river is part of the Santee River Watershed.

Lake Wylie Park was a Mecklenburg Parks and Recreation-operated park on the shores of Lake Wylie in Steele Creek, North Carolina. The park offered boat access, swimming, picnic space and overnight camping. It was closed in 1974 and replaced with McDowell Park, now McDowell Nature Preserve.
