Leefdaal

Vossem is a village in the municipality of Tervuren, in Belgium, 15 km from Leuven, or Louvain. It is located in the valley of the Voer creek (small river, tributary to the Dijle). There is small nature reserve in Vossem, the Twaalf-Apostelenbos ("Forest of the twelve apostles"), a swamp. Vossem was an independent village until 1977, when it became part of the municipality of Tervuren. Vossem is a part of the municipality of Tervuren that is comprised by the villages of Duisburg, Tervuren, Vossem and Moorsel. On 16 June 1673, the Treaty of Vossem was signed here between Louis XIV of France and Elector Frederick William of Brandenburg-Prussia.

Everberg is a town in the Belgian province Flemish Brabant and is part of the municipality of Kortenberg. The territory covers an area of 925 ha. The neighbouring towns or municipalities are Leefdaal, Kortenberg, Erps-Kwerps, Meerbeek, Sterrebeek, Moorsel and Tervuren. A small hamlet, called Vrebos, can also be found in Everberg.

Meerbeek is a village in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant and is the part of the municipality of Kortenberg, along with Everberg, Erps-Kwerps and Kortenberg. The village borders the villages of Veltem-Beisem (Herent), Bertem, Erps-Kwerps and Everberg. The area comprises 515 ha.

Bertem (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbɛrtɛm]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the towns of Bertem proper, Korbeek-Dijle and Leefdaal. On January 1, 2006, Bertem had a total population of 9,215. The total area is 29.75 km² which gives a population density of 310 inhabitants per km². The area is noted for its rural landscape, in particular the "Koeheide" and "Bertembos" ("Bertem Forest"). On the open plains of Leefdaal, it is possible to see the endangered European Hamster (Cricetus cricetus)). The village of Bertem itself is home to the Sint-Pieters-Bandenkerk, a romanesque church built between 950 and 1050. Known cyclist Vlad van Mechelen is from there.

Moorsel is a village in Flemish Brabant, Flanders, Belgium. Moorsel is a part of the municipality of Tervuren, alongside the villages of Duisburg, Tervuren and Vossem. It is located 14 km from Brussels and 14 km from Leuven.

Erps-Kwerps is a village in the Belgian Province of Flemish Brabant and a sub-municipality of Kortenberg. It has an area of 15.94 km^2.

Korbeek-Dijle is a village in the Belgian province Flemish Brabant and is part of the municipality of Bertem. Korbeek-Dijle is known because of its church, the Sint-Bartholomeuschurch (constructed in 1860). This church has been renovated in 1988-89. Inside the church is a nice retable from 1522. It was created in a studio from Brussels and the side panels were painted by the artist Jan Vanden Couteren from Leuven. On these side panels you can find the history of the holy Stefanus, martyr. When the retable is closed, miraculous healings from the Middle Ages are visible. The Ruwaal-walk, a signposted walk brings you to the nicest views of the village and sunken lanes. This walk starts at the church.

Kortenberg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkɔrtə(m)bɛr(ə)x]; French: Cortenbergh) is a Belgian municipality located in the province of Flemish Brabant, about halfway between the cities of Brussels and Leuven. The municipality comprises the subdivisions or deelgemeenten of Erps-Kwerps, Everberg, Kortenberg proper and Meerbeek. On 1 January 2013 Kortenberg had a total population of 19,393. The total area is 34.52 km2 which gives a population density of about 562 inhabitants per km2. In the southern part of Everberg there is also a hamlet called Vrebos, while between Erps-Kwerps and Meerbeek there is another hamlet called Schoonaarde, which can be found in the proximity of the train station of Erps-Kwerps.

Flemish Brabant (, US also ; Dutch: Vlaams-Brabant [ˌvlaːmz ˈbraːbɑnt] (listen); French: Brabant flamand [bʁabɑ̃ flamɑ̃] (listen)) is a province of Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium. It borders on (clockwise from the North) the Belgian provinces of Antwerp, Limburg, Liège, Walloon Brabant, Hainaut and East Flanders. Flemish Brabant also surrounds the Brussels-Capital Region. Its capital is Leuven. It has an area of 2,118 km2 (818 sq mi) which is divided into two administrative districts (arrondissementen in Dutch) containing 65 municipalities. As of January 2019, Flemish Brabant has a population of 1,146,175.Flemish Brabant was created in 1995 by the splitting of the former province of Brabant into three parts: two new provinces, Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant; and the Brussels-Capital Region, which no longer belongs to any province. The split was made to accommodate the eventual division of Belgium in three regions (Flanders, Wallonia and the Brussels-Capital Region). The province is made up of two arrondissements. The Halle-Vilvoorde Arrondissement has Brussels in its middle and is therefore mainly a residential area, even though it also has large industrial zones and contains Belgium's main airport. The other arrondissement is the Leuven Arrondissement, centered on Leuven. The province's products include Belgian beers. The official language in Flemish Brabant is Dutch (as it is in the whole of Flanders), but a few municipalities are to a certain extent allowed to use French to communicate with their citizens; these are called the municipalities with language facilities. Other such special municipalities can be found along the border between Flanders and Wallonia, and between Wallonia and the German-speaking area of Belgium. Halle-Vilvoorde mostly surrounds Brussels, which is officially bilingual but whose inhabitants mostly speak French.

Huldenberg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦʏldə(m)bɛr(ə)x]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the towns and villages of Huldenberg proper, Loonbeek, Neerijse, Ottenburg and Sint-Agatha-Rode. On January 1, 2011, Huldenberg had a total population of 9,464. The total area is 39.64 km² which gives a population density of 230 inhabitants per km². It is the seat of the Belgian branch of the House of Limburg-Stirum. It has a football club called VK Huldenberg, which was created from a fusion of the clubs FC Huldenberg and VK Rode.Every Tuesday there is a market from 8h - 13h. This market is located at the Gemeenteplein, near town hall. At the end of WW II, Mary Churchill, daughter of the British prime minister, was a member of a British all-women anti-aircraft battery 481 that was stationed at Huldenberg for three months. She was entertained by the then burgomaster of Huldenberg, Count Thierry de Limburg Stirum and his wife Marie, née Princess of Croÿ. She noted that she found the local people very friendly and helpful and stated ("somewhat priggishly" she admitted) "...the flouting by all of and sundry of whatever regulations existed here, and the wide-spread use of the flourishing 'black market'. This had been regarded as almost a 'patriotic duty' during the occupation, but it was still going on now - apparently unrestrained."

The Royal Museum for Central Africa or RMCA (Dutch: Koninklijk Museum voor Midden-Afrika or KMMA; French: Musée royal de l'Afrique centrale or MRAC; German: Königliches Museum für Zentralafrika or KMZA), also officially known as the AfricaMuseum, is an ethnography and natural history museum situated in Tervuren in Flemish Brabant, Belgium, just outside Brussels. It was built to showcase King Leopold II's Congo Free State in the International Exposition of 1897. The museum focuses on the Congo, a former Belgian colony. The sphere of interest, however, especially in biological research, extends to the whole Congo River basin, Middle Africa, East Africa, and West Africa, attempting to integrate "Africa" as a whole. Intended originally as a colonial museum, from 1960 onwards it has focused more on ethnography and anthropology. Like most museums, it houses a research department in addition to its public exhibit department. Not all research pertains to Africa (e.g. research on the archaeozoology of Sagalassos, Turkey). Some researchers have strong ties with the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. In November 2013, the museum closed for extensive renovation work, including the construction of new exhibition space, and re-opened in December 2018 under its new name.

The Africa Palace or Palace of Africa (Dutch: Afrikapaleis, French: Palais d'Afrique or Palais de l'Afrique) is a neoclassical palace in Tervuren in Flemish Brabant, Belgium, just outside Brussels. It was originally built in 1897 by order of King Leopold II to house the colonial section of the 1897 International Exposition. Nowadays, it is part of the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA), and houses offices, storage rooms, classrooms and a reception hall. It was formerly called the Palace of the Colonies (Dutch: Koloniënpaleis or Paleis der Koloniën, French: Palais des Colonies) until 2018.
