The Memorial Community Church is a Baptist church in Plaistow, Newham, east London. Neo-Byzantine in style, it is grade II listed.

St Andrew's Church was a Church of England church on Barking Road in Plaistow, east London. It began as a small mission built in 1860 on Whitwell Road by St Mary's Church, Plaistow. A permanent church designed by James Brooks opened in 1870 on a site just south of the northern outfall sewer embankment and a separate parish assigned to it the following year. A large central crossing tower with a pyramidal spire was planned but only completed as far as the ridge of the nave roof. In 1903 the church opened the mission hall that later became St Cedd's Church, Canning Town - the mission district for it was split off from the parishes of St Andrew's and St Luke's. St Andrew's suffered heavy damage during the London Blitz but was extensively repaired after 1945. The building was Grade II listed in 1984 but is no longer an Anglican church, now housing offices and a UCKG Help Centre and with its chancel walled off. Its parish is now within the Parish of the Divine Compassion. In 2006, the congregation of St Andrew's Church, Plaistow merged into the congregation of Memorial Baptist Church to form one group, the Memorial Community Church.

St Philip and St James’ Church is a Church of England church in Plaistow, east London. It originated as two churches before being merged into the joint parish of St Philip and St James in 1955. That parish in its turn has now become part of the Parish of the Divine Compassion along with three other parishes in Plaistow and Canning Town - St Mary's, St Matthias' and St Martin's.

Greengate is a neighbourhood located in Plaistow, in East London within the London Borough of Newham. A notable feature of the area is the Greengate House, previously the home to a YMCA and an Art college. The Barking Road runs nearby. Historically, Greengate was in the ancient parish of West Ham, within the hundred of Becontree, and part of the historic county of Essex.

Voice of Africa Radio (also known as VOAR) was a London-based FM radio station, founded on 1 January 2000 to correct the exclusion and marginalisation of the African community from the electronic media. Initially, the station operated unlicensed, covering the Greater London area on 107.7 MHz. It attracted a wide range of African businesses that advertised and sponsored most of its programmes. Listeners were mainly the youth, but also various African High Commissioners and Heads of State.Voice of Africa Radio finally won its bid for a five-year permanent FM licence in London on 16 February 2006, after six years of campaigning, making it the first and only legally licensed African radio station in the UK. Its offices are based in Plaistow.The station went live on 20 August 2007, with a range of African music spanning the continent of Africa and several phone–in programmes which discuss issues that are pertinent to Africans at local, national and international level. After experiencing problems with pirate radio stations operating on the assigned frequency (94.3 MHz), Ofcom proposed changing the station's carrier frequency to 94.0 MHz which took effect in February 2011.The station lost its license in March 2016 after being unable to broadcast for a lengthy period of time.

Plaistow County Grammar School, also known as "Plaistow Grammar" or "PGS", was a local authority mixed gender Grammar school established in 1945 and located on Prince Regent Lane (A112) in Plaistow, in the County Borough of West Ham and then the London Borough of Newham in east London. It was disestablished in 1972 upon its merging to create a Comprehensive school.

Newham Sixth Form College (NewVIc) is a sixth form college located in the East London borough of Newham. Situated on a single site in Plaistow, the college was established in 1992 to provide for students in Newham and neighbouring boroughs who opt to stay in education beyond GCSE O-levels. It is designed for students ages 16 to 19 and its curriculum includes A-levels as well as specialist pathway, levels 2 and 3 vocational, foundation level and ESOL programmes. There are currently about 2,500 students at the college.

St Cedd's Church was a Church of England church between Newham Way, (front, original access, was Beckton Road at time of building) and Chadwin Road, (access after the development of the Newham Way in the 1960s) in Canning Town, east London, dedicated to Cedd, evangelist to Essex, in whose ceremonial county the church falls. Opened as a brick hall in 1903-1904 as a mission of St Andrew's Church, Plaistow, it had a mission district assigned using parts of the parishes of St Andrew's and St Luke's in 1905. That mission district was turned into a separate parish in 1936, for which a new redbrick church was completed in 1939. Part of the former parish of Holy Trinity Church was assigned to St Cedd's in 1961, though the latter is no longer an Anglican church. Fire damaged in 1995, it was restored and re-opened in 2007 to house the London Ghana Seventh-day Adventist congregation

St Mary's Church is a Church of England church in Plaistow, east London. With the three churches of St Matthias’, St Martin's, and St Philip and St James’, it now forms part of the Parish of the Divine Compassion. Its Victorian building, designed by Sir Arthur William Blomfield in 1890-1894, was demolished in 1976. They now worship in a smaller church built in 1981.It was built as a chapel of ease to All Saints Church, West Ham, then the only parish church in the area. It was promoted to a parish in its own right in 1844. The site was granted by Sir John H Pelly and the church designed in the neo-Gothic style influenced by the late Perpendicular style by Thomas Curtis. Notable among its vicars was Thomas Given-Wilson, who raised is capacity to 1,000 through a comprehensive rebuild. The parish also built several mission churches - St Peter's, Upton Road (1880s), St Katherine's on Chapman Road (1891; replaced by a permanent church in 1894; demolished 1965), St Thomas' on Northern Road (1898-1950) and St Matthias' Canning Town (1887).

Cumberland Community School is a coeducational secondary school located in the London Borough of Newham, England. Every year-group consist of 300 pupils with 10 classes of 30 pupils each. It is situated on Oban Close off Prince Regent Lane close to its junction with Newham Way and has substantial land, sharing facilities with neighbouring Newham Leisure Centre. It is built on the site of the former Woodside Community School.

St Thomas' Church, Plaistow was a Church of England church on Northern Road in Plaistow, Newham. It opened in 1898 as a mission church of St Mary's Church, Plaistow. It was demolished around 1950.

Canning Town is a district in the London Borough of Newham, East London. The district is located to the north of the Royal Victoria Dock, and has been described as the "Child of the Victoria Docks" as the timing and nature of its urbanisation was largely due to the creation of the dock. The area was part of the ancient parish of West Ham, in the hundred of Becontree, and part of the historic county of Essex. It forms part of the London E16 postcode district. The area, the location of the Rathbone Market, is undergoing significant regeneration as of 2012. According to Newham Council: "The Canning Town and Custom House Regeneration Programme includes the building of up to 10,000 new homes, creation of thousands of new jobs and two improved town centres. This £3.7 billion project aims to transform the area physically, socially and economically."
