Spring Wood is a 5.5 hectare Local Nature Reserve east of Belstead, on the southern outskirts of Ipswich in Suffolk. It is owned and managed by Ipswich Borough Council.This ancient oak and hornbeam wood has an understorey of hazel. There are small-leaved limes in groups several metres in diameter, which are genetically one tree, as a result of coppicing decades ago.There is access from the neighbouring Millennium Wood and by a footpath from Bobbits Lane.

Millennium Wood is a 3.8 hectare Local Nature Reserve on the southern outskirts of Ipswich in Suffolk. It is owned by Suffolk County Council and managed by the Greenways Countryside Project.New saplings have been planted on the edge of this ancient, semi-natural wood of hornbeam and coppiced lime. There are many flowers in the spring such as bluebells, wild garlic and archangel.There is access from Bobbits Lane.

Bobbits Lane is a 16.1 hectares (40 acres) Local Nature Reserve in Ipswich in Suffolk. It is owned by Ipswich Borough Council and managed by the Greenways Countryside Project.In the reserve, grassy paths run through wet meadows. Fauna include otters, water voles, kingfishers, egrets and toads.There is access to the site from Stoke Park Drive.

Bobbitshole is a 1.7-hectare (4.2-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Belstead, on the southern outskirts of Ipswich in Suffolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This is the type locality for the warm Ipswichian interglacial around 130,000 to 115,000 year ago. It has yielded continuous deposits from the end of the preceding Wolstonian cold stage to the end of the Ipswichian. It is described by Natural England as a "nationally important Pleistocene reference site".This site is private land with no public access. It has been filled in and no geology is visible.

Wherstead is a village and a civil parish located in the county of Suffolk, England. Wherstead village lies 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Ipswich on the Shotley peninsula. It is in the Belstead Brook electoral division of Suffolk County Council.It is an ancient settlement, and from its soil the plough has brought to light many evidences of occupation by Romans and by early Britons. In the Domesday Book of 1086 the place is described under the Old English names Querstede and Wervesteda. Toponymic surnames which originate from Wherstead include Quested and Quersted. The name of the village and parish is in today generally pronounced Wersted or Warsted by the residents, the "a" in the latter case having the sound of "a" in father. Wherstead Park Mansion is a notable historic house which has been converted to a wedding venue. A short ride by train through Ipswich carries passengers to Bourne Bridge, which marks the boundary of Wherstead parish. Near the bridge, on the Wherstead side, stands the Ostrich Inn, as it stood at the time of the New England migration. At that time, oysters were abundant in the River Orwell, and some speculate that Ostrich was a corruption from 'Oyster Ridge' or 'Oyster Reach'. However the pub name is more likely to derive from the crest of lawyer and Chief Justice, Sir Edward Coke, who acquired the surrounding estate in 1609, and the pub sign is similar to others across East Anglia.

The Belstead Brook Hotel in Ipswich, Suffolk is a building of historical significance. It was originally a 16th-century hunting lodge but was used later as a family residence. The property was then converted to a hotel which now provides accommodation and restaurant facilities. It also caters for special events particularly weddings. The Cinema Museum in London holds home movie footage of the Hotel in about 1962.

It is owned and managed by Ipswich Borough Council.This ancient wood was formerly part of the Stoke Park estate, and it still has the remains of a Victorian drainage system. It was formerly called Fishpond Covert as it had a large fishpond. It is a mixed woodland with grass trails and glades.There is access from Stoke Park Drive.

Freston and Cutler's Woods with Holbrook Park is a 142 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Ipswich in Suffolk. The site is in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural BeautyThese ancient woods have woodland types typical of spring-fed valleys and light sandy soils. Holbrook Park has coppice stools over 3 metres in diameter, among the largest in Britain. Sweet chestnut, which was introduced in the Middle Ages, is found widely, and other trees include the rare wild service tree.Holbrook Park is private, but a public footpath goes through Cutler's Wood.

The South West Area, Ipswich is one of five administrative areas in Ipswich, through which Ipswich Borough Council divides its spending and enables feedback from local residents, businesses and community groups.The area is composed of four wards, each represented by three councillors. Bourne Park Reed Beds is a 7.4 hectare Local Nature Reserve on the southern outskirts of Ipswich in Suffolk, United Kingdom. It is owned and managed by Ipswich Borough Council.This nature reserve in Bourne Park is a linear area of reed beds, scrub woodland and tall herb fen, along the north bank of Belstead Brook.

There are two notable Ipswich Hoards (which is to say, ancient hoards found in Ipswich, the county town of Suffolk, England). The first was a hoard of Anglo-Saxon coins discovered in 1863. The second was a hoard of six Iron Age gold torcs that was discovered in 1968 and 1969. The latter hoard has been described as second only to the Snettisham Hoard in importance as a hoard from the Iron Age, and is held at the British Museum.
