Royal Air Force Leicester East, more commonly known as RAF Leicester East (ICAO: EGBG), is a former Royal Air Force station, near the village of Stoughton, 4 NM (7.4 km; 4.6 mi) east southeast of Leicester, Leicestershire, England. It was constructed in 1942 and formally opened in October 1943. The airfield is now Leicester Airport.

Leicester Airport (IATA: None, ICAO: EGBG) is an aerodrome located to the east of Stoughton, Leicestershire, England, about 5 nautical miles (9.3 km; 5.8 mi) east of Leicester City Centre by road. The Leicestershire Aero Club Limited, the airport operator, provide elementary flight training, experience flights and the airport is home to a wide variety of private aircraft. The airfield was constructed in 1942 as part of the former RAF station, RAF Leicester East. The facility was named Stoughton Aerodrome prior to 1974. The airport has a CAA Ordinary Licence (Number P720) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee—Leicestershire Aero Club Limited. However, the airport does not currently operate public transport services. Air Traffic Services, in the form of air-ground communication are provided by "Leicester Radio" on a frequency of 122.130 MHz.

Little Stretton (otherwise Stretton Parva) is a small village and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire that lies approximately 5.53 miles (8.90 km) southeast of the city of Leicester. The parish includes the deserted medieval village of Great Stretton, a Scheduled Ancient Monument that is located 0.7 miles (1.1 km) to the west of the village. The Gartree Road, a Roman Road, runs through the parish, adjacent to both Little and Great Stretton, and is the reason for those settlements' names (see: Stretton). According to the University of Nottingham English Place-names project, the settlement name Stretton means "strēt" (Anglian) for a Roman road; and "tūn" (Old English) for a settlement or an estate. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 92, with approximately 36 households.

Thurnby is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Thurnby and Bushby, in the Harborough district, in the county of Leicestershire, England. It is just east of Leicester's city boundaries. Thurnby village proper is set to the south of the A47, just after it leaves the city. A sister village, Bushby lies just to the east and merges into it. To the west is Evington and Thurnby Lodge in Leicester proper, to the north is Scraptoft and to the south and east are open countryside – the next villages in these directions are Stoughton and Houghton on the Hill.

Thurnby and Bushby, sometimes known as Thurnby, is a civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 3,147, increasing to 3,301 at the 2011 census.

Bushby is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Thurnby and Bushby, in the Harborough district, in Leicestershire, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 336.It lies just south of the A47 Uppingham Road, which leads east from Leicester, and contiguous with the village of Thurnby. The principal thoroughfare is the east-west Main Street, off which lead half a dozen closes built since the 1950s. Its central point is the 'spinney', a clump of pine trees forming an island created when a dog's-leg in Main street was straightened out. Most of the settlement is made up of commuter housing, but it retains a handful of farms and shops. Though the local pub, the Rose and Crown, lies in Thurnby, its old skittle alley is on Bushby territory, with the consequence that it used to have later opening hours.

Via Devana is the name given to a Roman Road in England that ran from Colchester in the south-east, through Cambridge in the interior, and on to Chester in the north-west. These were important Roman military centres and it is conjectured that the main reason the road was constructed was military rather than civilian. The Latin name for Chester is Deva and 'Via Devana' is thus 'The Chester Road'. Colchester was Colonia Victricensis, 'the City of Victory', and lays claim to be the oldest Roman city in Britain. The Via Devana had little civilian rationale and the road eventually fell into disuse as it was not possible to maintain extensive public works following withdrawal of the last Roman legion from Britain in 407. As a result, its route is difficult to find today, especially in its more northern reaches. It is omitted from some historians' maps for this reason but most nowadays accept its existence. The undocumented name Via Devana was coined by Charles Mason, D.D., of Trinity College, Cambridge, who was also rector of Orwell, Cambridgeshire, and Woodwardian Professor of Fossils at Cambridge University from 1734. During his life, Mason compiled a complete map of Cambridgeshire which was later published in 1808, long after his death.

Keyham is an English village in Leicestershire. It lies about 7 miles (11 km) east of Leicester, in the district of Harborough. The population at the 2001 census was 118, which rose to 124 at the 2011 census.

Pennbury was the working name given to a proposed eco-town of 15,000 to 20,000 new homes intended to be built on Leicester Airport, four miles from the centre of Leicester. On 16 July 2009, Housing Minister John Healey announced that the Pennbury project would not go ahead.The site is in the Harborough district council area and straddles the Harborough parliamentary constituency where the then-MP was Edward Garnier, and the Rutland and Melton parliamentary constituency where the then-MP was Alan Duncan. The proposal was submitted by the Co-operative Group and English Partnerships and aroused local opposition on many grounds including destruction of the countryside and the traffic it would generate. On 29 January 2008 Edward Garnier spoke to the adjournment in parliament and was supported by other local MPs from both sides of the house in expression of their concerns about the secrecy evident in the process of shortlisting. On 3 April, 2008, it was announced that the Pennbury proposal was one of fifteen sites shortlisted by Communities and Local Government (CLG) for the next phase of public consultations. CLG's consultation paper on the shortlisted sites reported that the site would "create a largely freestanding community, but linked to Leicester" and accommodate 12,000 to 15,000 homes in a development of 750 hectares.

King's Norton is a village and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England. It is situated to the east of Leicester, and about 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) south-west from Billesdon. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 69. At the 2011 census the population remained less than 100 and is included in the civil parish of Gaulby. There is a small cluster of houses around the junction of three roads which lead to Gaulby, Little Stretton, and Illston on the Hill; this includes the manor-house, Vicarage, and church. In 1563 there were 12 households, in 1670 there were 17 households. The maximum known population was just over 60 in the 19th century.

Ingarsby railway station was a railway station in Ingarsby, Leicestershire, on the Great Northern Railway Leicester branch. It opened in 1882, and closed to regular passenger trains and goods on 7 December 1953 but a workmen's service continued until 29 April 1957 . To the west, about halfway to the next station at Thurnby, lies Ingarsby tunnel, 516 yards (472 metres) long. Although the correct spelling for the locality is Ingarsby, the station appeared in railway publications as "Ingersby", including Bradshaw for August 1887, July 1902, July 1922 and October 1931, as well as The Railway Clearing House Handbook of Railway Stations 1904. It appeared as "Ingarsby for Houghton" in Bradshaw for December 1944 and in the LNER timetable for May 6th 1946. It was advertised as the station for Houghton on the Hill. The station building survives today as a private residence.

Gaulby (or Galby) is a village in Leicestershire, England, 7 miles east of the city of Leicester. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 131, (including Frisby). The 2011 census for Gaulby returned 52 houses and 141 residents.
