The Walhonding Canal was a canal in Coshocton County, Ohio that was used as a feeder canal for the Ohio and Erie Canal. A small canal, at only 25 miles (40.2 km) long, it was wholly contained within Coshocton County, following the Mohican River from Cavallo south to the confluence with the Kokosing River, which together with the Mohican forms the Walhonding River. The canal followed the Walhonding River southeast toward Coshocton where it met the Ohio and Erie Canal in Roscoe Village.

Killbuck Creek is a tributary of the Walhonding River, 81.7 mi (131.5 km) long, in north-central Ohio in the United States. Via the Walhonding, Muskingum and Ohio Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River. It drains an area of 613 mi² (1588 km²).Killbuck Creek rises in northern Wayne County and initially flows in a counter-clockwise loop northward into southern Medina County and past the town of Burbank before turning to a southward course through Wayne, Holmes and Coshocton Counties to its mouth at the Walhonding River, 5 mi (8 km) west of the city of Coshocton. Along its course it flows to the west of the city of Wooster and passes the towns of Holmesville, Millersburg and Killbuck.A USGS stream gauge on the creek at Layland recorded a mean annual discharge of 502 cubic feet per second (14.2 m3/s) during water years 1924-1930. According to a US Environmental Protection Agency estimate, the mean annual discharge of the creek at its mouth is 625.34 cu ft/s (17.708 m3/s).

The Helmick Covered Bridge, near Blissfield, Ohio, was built in 1863. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.It is located east of Blissfield on Township Road 25, in Clark Township, Coshocton County, Ohio. It was built by John Shrake and is a two-span wooden truss covered bridge.The bridge cost $2,107. It is asserted to be one of the oldest covered bridges in Ohio. "It was an integral part of commerce in the village of Helmick during the early days. The bridge provided access to two grist mills used by farmers from as far as 25 miles away. Named for Congressman William Helmick of Tuscarawas County, the covered bridge was built by John Shrake of Newark, Ohio. The bridge fell into decay, and was closed in 1981. Citizens raised over $250,000 to restore the bridge and completed the project in 1996."

The county lies within the Appalachian region of the state. The county was formed on January 31, 1810, from portions of Muskingum and Tuscarawas Counties and later organized in 1811. Its name comes from the Delaware Indian language and has been translated as "union of waters" or "black bear crossing". Coshocton was mentioned by David Zeisberger in his diary from the 1780s using the German spelling "Goschachgünk". The Coshocton, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area includes all of Coshocton County.

The Muskingum River Navigation Historic District is a 6,004 acres (24.30 km2) historic district in Ohio's Coshocton, Morgan, Muskingum, and Washington counties, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. The listing includes 12 contributing buildings, 32 contributing structures, and a contributing site.The "Muskingum River lock system was designated the first Navigation Historic District in the United States by the National Park Service." The Muskingum River Navigation System was also designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2001.It is traversed by the Muskingum River Water Trail.
