Peckham

The Spike Surplus Scheme was a community-run self-managed social centre in a squatted building in Peckham, South London. It was occupied in 1999 and provided a range of mostly free activities for local people until its eviction in 2009 by Southwark Council.

Queens Road Peckham railway station is in the London Borough of Southwark and also serves the area to the east of Peckham, in the London Borough of Lewisham. It is on the South London Line, 2 miles 58 chains (4.4 km) from London Bridge, and trains also go to Croydon via various routes and beyond. It is on the road of that name and is in Travelcard Zone 2.

St. Thomas the Apostle College is a Roman Catholic secondary school for boys in Nunhead, London. A co-educational Sixth Form was opened in 2015. The school was rebuilt and the new school building was opened by the Archbishop of Southwark, Peter Smith, in January 2013. The original Catholic chapel, an important feature in the life of the school, was retained and is the focus for the Catholic and pastoral life of the students. In September 2015, St Thomas the Apostle College expanded its provision by opening a co-educational Sixth Form.

Peckham Rye is a railway station in Peckham town centre, South London. It opened on 1 December 1865 for LC&DR trains and on 13 August 1866 for LB&SCR trains. It was designed by Charles Henry Driver (1832–1900), the architect of Abbey Mills and Crossness pumping stations, who also designed the grade II listed Denmark Hill and Battersea Park stations between here and London Victoria.

Peckham Library is a library and community building situated in Peckham in south-east London. It was designed by Alsop and Störmer, engineered by AKT II and won the Stirling Prize for Architecture in 2000.It is a striking building best imagined as an inverted capital letter 'L', with the upper part supported by thin steel pillars set at apparently random angles. The exterior is clad with pre-patinated copper.The Stirling prize judges were impressed with the building's approach. Alsop has taken the plan footprint of a conventional library and elevated it to create a public space beneath the building and to remove the quiet reading space from street level noise. The remaining, supporting buildings on the ground and 1st floors house the information and media centre. The library opened to the public on March 8, 2000, with an official opening by Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Chris Smith, on May 15, 2000. The building attracted 500,000 visitors in its first year of opening in the wake of its receipt of the prize. This dropped to approximately 420,000 for 2006.

Peckham Platform (formerly called Peckham Space) is a public art gallery in London that commissions and exhibits work by contemporary artists, usually in collaboration with local community groups.

Peckham Arch is a unique 35m span structure at the north end of Rye Lane in the London Borough of Southwark. The Arch was constructed in 1994 and was designed by architects Troughton McAslan as monument to and as instigator of regeneration in a borough which had suffered from years of decline. The Arch was the first of three capital projects around Peckham Square and was followed by construction of Peckham Library, completed in 2000. The Arch is home to a public art light sculpture conceived by the artist Ron Haselden. In November 2016 it was announced that the Arch would be demolished to make way for new blocks of flats. A 2015 plan for the site included a total of 100 flats across nine sites surrounding the square, were the arch to be removed. Removal of the arch will allow for the construction of two new four and six-storey buildings, containing 19 flats, six of which will be social housing two of these will be within existing buildings at 91-93 Peckham High Street. Community campaigners have criticised the Southwark scheme for occupying and selling off rare covered public space for private development. The scheme has been further criticised for failing to demonstrate public support for removal of the Arch. Mature trees and green link connecting Rye Lane to Burgess Park is also to be lost if the Arch were to be demolished. Local architect Benedict O'Looney said it would be a "great tragedy" if the arch were removed, branding Southwark's proposal as "insane" and describing it as "an iconic symbol of Peckham". In 2016 the London borough of Southwark turned down an application placed by 21 Southwark residents to list Peckham arch as an 'Asset of Community Value' https://www.southwark.gov.uk/assets/attach/5982/Unsuccessful-nominations-List-of-community-land-nominations-.xlsx Planning permission for Southwark Council's proposal was granted in November 2016 and expired in November 2019.

Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, formerly Mountview Theatre School, is a drama school in Peckham, south London, England, founded in 1945. The Academy provides specialist vocational training in acting and musical theatre, as well as production arts. The President of the school is Dame Judi Dench, and the Principal and Artistic Director Stephen Jameson. The institution prepares students for a professional career in the performing arts. The academy and its courses hold Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA) recognition, validated by the University of East Anglia and Trinity College, London. It was rated "Outstanding" for Overall Effectiveness by Ofsted in 2015. Key areas of study include performance and production. It is a member of the Federation of Drama Schools.

Camberwell and Peckham is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since its 1997 creation by Harriet Harman of the Labour Party. Harman had served for the previous constituency of Peckham since 1982. She is a former cabinet minister and the "Mother of the House of Commons", having the longest record of continuous service of any female MP.

Bellenden Road Nature Garden is a very small nature reserve in Peckham in the London Borough of Southwark. It is managed by the London Wildlife Trust and it opened in August 2010.The site was established to promote sustainable gardening and nature study for local schools and community groups. It contains a stag beetle loggery, wildflower borders, and a native hedgerow. Wildlife includes common toads, great tits, bees, and butterflies.Access to the garden is available only by prior arrangement with the Trust.

The Ledbury Estate is a large estate of social housing, in Peckham in the London Borough of Southwark. The estate is just south of the Old Kent Road, part of the A2 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) from both Tower Bridge and the Elephant & Castle it is adjacent to land used by George Livesey for the South London Gasworks. It was found, while making fire safety checks in 2017 in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire, that the blocks had not been strengthened, as required after Ronan Point collapse in 1968.

Obalende Suya Express, Obalende Suya or Suya Express is a Nigerian restaurant in London, England. The restaurant has two branches, one, a takeaway located 43 Peckham High Street, Peckham, not far west from Peckham Library and a restaurant located at 523 Kingsland Road in Dalston, Hackney (now closed). It is named after Obalende, a neighborhood on Lagos Island in Lagos, Nigeria and suya, a grilled kebab like dish, popular in Nigeria. The restaurant was founded in the summer of 1987 and opened its first branch in 1991, opening the Peckham High Street outlet in the summer of 1992. The restaurant is popular amongst the African nationals and serves African and Caribbean cuisine. The restaurant serves a variety of grilled meats, various lamb, chicken, beef and goat dishes and more exotic meats such as crocodile and shark, along with wine.The Dalston location was written up in The Guardian in 2006 for starting the practice of fining patrons who'd load up on their Grill Greedy buffet and leave without eating it.London Eating, a restaurant review website says of the Obalende Suya, "the suya is the best you can get in London, authentic, very fresh, spicy and made right in front of you. The downside is that it takes a long time before you get your order and the asaro sells out in no time at all".
