Feltham

Feltham railway station serves Feltham in the London Borough of Hounslow, west London. It was opened on 22 August 1848 by the Windsor, Staines and South Western Railway (later the London and South Western Railway). It is 14 miles 68 chains (23.9 km) down the line from London Waterloo and is in Travelcard Zone 6. Two regular bus routes run from the main road, to its east, to and from differing parts of Heathrow Airport.

Feltham was an urban district in the former county of Middlesex, England from 1904 to 1965. As Middlesex was disbanded is 1965, Feltham now is a part of Greater London. It was the main civic body covering the overlapping civil (and almost identical ecclesiastical) parish of Feltham. The area had before 1904 been part of the Staines Rural District created in 1895 and, in turn, its sanitary district forebear. In 1930, the parent district was abolished so two similar-sized parishes: East Bedfont (including its tall-hat-shaped Hatton northern part) and Hanworth to the south-west were added. Feltham U.D. was abolished under the London Government Act 1963, in 1965, to form part the south-west of the new London Borough of Hounslow in a new county for London.

The Reach Academy Feltham is an all-through free school which opened in Feltham in the London Borough of Hounslow in 2012.

MOD Feltham (formerly Feltham Barracks) is a secure 30-acre (12 ha) military installation in Feltham, Middlesex.

Springwest Academy, formerly Feltham Community College, is a Secondary school in Feltham in the London Borough of Hounslow.

Feltham and Heston is a constituency created in 1974 represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. Its MP since 2011 is Seema Malhotra of the Labour Co-operative Party, which is in political union with the Labour Party.

Rivers Academy West London is an 11–18 mixed secondary school and sixth form with academy status in Feltham, London, England. It specialises in business and enterprise. The school opened replacing Longford Community School. It is a part of the multi-academy trust, Aspirations Academies Trust.

Hounslow Heath Golf Centre was a 117 acres (47 ha) public golf course and centre which comprised an 18-hole course located on Hounslow Heath in Feltham in the London Borough of Hounslow, west London. It was home to resident Hounslow Heath Golf Club.

St George's Church, Hanworth, is a Church of England parish church based in Hanworth, London. It is dedicated to Saint George and has Grade II* listed status.

London Air Park, also known as Hanworth Air Park, was a grass airfield in the grounds of Hanworth Park House, operational 1917–1919 and 1929–1947. It was on the southeastern edge of Feltham, now part of the London Borough of Hounslow. In the 1930s, it was best known as a centre for private flying, society events, visits by the Graf Zeppelin airship, and for aircraft manufacture by the Whitehead Aircraft Company during World War I and General Aircraft Limited (GAL) 1934–1949; in total over 1,650 aircraft were built here.

On 16 June 1980, Patricia "Patsy" Morris, a fourteen-year old schoolgirl from Feltham, London, was murdered by strangulation. She disappeared after leaving her school during her lunch break, and was found dead in undergrowth on Hounslow Heath near her home two days later. Despite repeated appeals for information by police, her murder remains unsolved. The murder was brought to public attention again in 2008, when it was discovered that she had been a childhood girlfriend of west London serial killer Levi Bellfield. Police investigated links between her murder and Bellfield, but he was never formally charged over her death.

Feltham marshalling yard, also known as Feltham hump yard, was a large railway marshalling yard designed for the concentration of freight traffic to and from South West London, and for transfer to other marshalling yards in London. It was built on the Waterloo to Reading Line. It opened in 1918 and was closed by British Railways on 6 January 1969.Part of the site is now being rebuilt to stable Class 701 electric multiple unit trains for South Western Railway (SWR).
