Caldelas (also known as Caldas das Taipas and, in the past, S. Tomé de Caldelas) is a Portuguese civil parish in the municipality of Guimarães. With an area of 2.69 km² and 6304 inhabitants (2021 census). Its population density is 2 343.5 hab./km².

The Ara de Trajano is a Roman inscription made on a granite boulder located in Caldas das Taipas, Braga District, Portugal with an honorific inscription to Trajan, dated 103. It was classified as a Monumento Nacional(National Monument) by the Decreto of 16-06-1910, Diário do Governo, No. 136, of 23-06-1910.It is also known as Lápide das Taipas, Ara de Nerva or Penedo da Moura. The inscription is on one of the faces of a granite block cut into three faces, each of them approximately three meters high. The inscription reads:IMP(ERATOR) CAES(AR) NERVA/ TRAIANVS AVG(VSTVS), GER(MANICVS), DAC(ICVS)/ POT(IFEX) MAX(IMVS), TRIB(VNITIA) POT(ESTATE) VII/ IMP(ERATOR) IIII CO(N)S(UL) V, P(ATER) P(ATRIAE)] ("Emperor Cesar Nerva Trajan, Augustus, Germanicus, Doricus, Pontiff Maximus, with the tribune power for the seventh time, Emperor for the fourth time, Consul for the fifth time, Father of the Fatherland").

Airão Santa Maria, Airão São João e Vermil (officially: União das Freguesias de Airão Santa Maria, Airão São João e Vermil) is a civil parish in the municipality of Guimarães, Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Santa Maria de Airão, São João Batista de Airão, and Vermil. The population in 2021 was 3,213, in an area of 7.48 km2.

Leitões, Oleiros e Figueiredo (officially: União das Freguesias de Leitões, Oleiros e Figueiredo) is a civil parish in the municipality of Guimarães, Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Leitões, Oleiros, and Figueiredo. The population in 2021 was 1,437, in an area of 8.98 km2.

The Citânia de Briteiros is an archaeological site of the Castro culture located in the Portuguese civil parish of Briteiros São Salvador e Briteiros Santa Leocádia in the municipality of Guimarães; important for its size, "urban" form and developed architecture, it is one of the more excavated sites in northwestern Iberian Peninsula. Although primarily known as the remains of an Iron Age proto-urban hill fort (or oppidum), the excavations at the site have revealed evidence of sequential settlement, extending from the Bronze to Middle Ages.

Guimarães (Portuguese pronunciation: [ɡimɐˈɾɐ̃jʃ] (listen)) is a city and municipality located in northern Portugal, in the district of Braga. Its historic town centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001, in recognition for being an "exceptionally well-preserved and authentic example of the evolution of a medieval settlement into a modern town" in Europe. Guimarães is also a part of the Ave Subregion (one of the most industrialised subregions in the country), as well as the historical Minho Province. The city has a population of 152.309 inhabitants according the most recent data of 2019 in an area of 240.95 square kilometres (93.03 sq mi). The current Mayor is Domingos Bragança, of the Socialist Party. Guimarães, along with Maribor, Slovenia, was the European Capital of Culture in 2012. The city was settled in the 9th century, at which time it was called Vimaranes. This denomination might have had its origin in the warrior Vímara Peres, who chose this area as the main government seat for the County of Portugal which he conquered for the Kingdom of Galicia. Guimarães has a significant historical importance due to the role it played in the foundation of Portugal. The city is often referred to as the "birthplace of Portugal" or "the cradle city" (Cidade Berço in Portuguese) because it is widely believed that Portugal's first King, Afonso Henriques, was born there, and also due to the fact that the Battle of São Mamede – which is considered the seminal event for the foundation of the Kingdom of Portugal – was fought in the vicinity of the city.

The Estádio D. Afonso Henriques (English: D. Afonso Henriques Stadium) is a football stadium in the city of Guimarães, Portugal. The stadium is home of Guimarães's most successful team, Vitória de Guimarães, presently competing in the top-flight Portuguese Liga. The stadium was built in 1965 and was renovated and expanded in 2003 for the UEFA Euro 2004 tournament by architect Eduardo Guimarães. Estádio D. Afonso Henriques has a capacity of 30,029 and it is named after the first King of Portugal—and also a Guimarães native—Dom Afonso Henriques. It was formerly known as Estádio Municipal de Guimarães, and before that as the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques (1965). During Euro 2004, the stadium hosted two of the tournament's matches.
