Cannon Hall

Cannon Hall Farm is a working farm and tourist attraction close to the village of Cawthorne, near Barnsley in the English county of South Yorkshire. Open to visitors since 1989, it is owned and run by the Nicholson family. The farm was voted Best Tourist Experience at the Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards 2011. Cannon Hall Farm was once the home farm for Cannon Hall, built by the Spencer-Stanhope family and now a museum. Roger Nicholson, who developed the current farm and attractions inherited the land when he was 16. The farm itself raises sheep, goats, and pigs, with over 750 lambs reared, and 400 ewes and 800 piglets produced annually. The site's visitor attractions include an adventure playground, large tube maze, farm shop, delicatessen, gift and toy shop, and restaurant.

High Hoyland is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England, on the border with West Yorkshire. It lies to the west of Kexbrough, and is located at approximately 53°35′10″N 1°35′30″W, at an elevation of around 200 metres above sea level. At the 2001 census it had a population of 142, reducing to 128 at the 2011 Census.There are many Hoylands in Barnsley - there is the village of Hoyland itself south east of Barnsley on the road to Sheffield, which includes the former hamlets of Hoyland Common, Upper Hoyland and Hoyland Nether (nether being old English for "lower"). Hoylandswaine is located on the opposite side of the wide valley, and at almost 1000 feet above sea level has a wilder and bleaker feel than High Hoyland. The word Hoyland is derived from Norse, and at its simplest means "farm on a hill". Despite there being countless farms on hills around England, the majority of the Hoylands are concentrated in Barnsley.

Cawthorne is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. The village was once a centre of the iron and coal mining industry; today it is part of an affluent commuter belt west of Barnsley. At the 2001 census it had a population of 1,108, increasing to 1,151 at the 2011 Census.The village pub, the Spencer Arms, is named after the Spencer-Stanhope family, who once owned large swathes of the local area. Their home was Cannon Hall, the park of which borders the village.Two earlier residences in Cawthorne were Barnby Hall, home of the Barnby family, and Banks Hall, the seat of the Misses Spencer-Stanhope and of a branch of the Greene family.Cawthorne is frequented by ramblers as many walking routes start from the village.The Victoria Jubilee Museum, built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, was opened in 1889 and contains numerous unusual exhibits including a stuffed cheetah and a two-headed lamb.All Saints Church overlooks the village, and there is a Methodist church on Darton Road. All Saints contains memorials to the Barnby and Spencer families.In the heart of the village stands Malt Kiln Row, originally the malt kiln for Cannon Hall.

Whistlestop Valley, formerly the Kirklees Light Railway, is a visitor attraction featuring a 3+1⁄2-mile (5.6 km) long 15 in (381 mm) gauge minimum gauge railway. The attraction's main site is in the village of Clayton West in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England which was first opened to the public on 19 October 1991, with a second, smaller site in a rual area near the village of Shelley. The railway at Whistlestop Valley runs along the trackbed of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway's former branch line, from Clayton West via Skelmanthorpe to Shelley Woodhouse (a few yards close to the former Clayton West Junction 1⁄2 mile (0.8 km), near Shepley) on the Penistone line from Huddersfield to Sheffield via Penistone and Barnsley. From 1991 to 2021 the attraction was known as the Kirklees Light Railway. In June 2021, the attraction rebranded under the name Whistlestop Valley but retains the name Kirklees Light Railway for its 15 inch railway operation.

At the 2001 census it had a population of 2,954, increasing to 3,153 at the 2011 Census.Silkstone Parish is twinned with Saint-Florent-des-Bois in France.

Noblethorpe is a hamlet in the English county of South Yorkshire. The hamlet falls within the Penistone East Ward of the Barnsley MBC. Noblethorpe lies on the A628 road between Barnsley and Penistone, to its north is the village of Silkstone and to its south is Silkstone Common. An 1822 description describes Noblethorpe as having a single house.

The Church of All Saints is the parish church in the village of Silkstone in South Yorkshire, England. It is a Church of England church in the Diocese of Leeds. The building is Grade I listed and dates back to at least the 12th century.
