Durham County, North Carolina

Braggtown (or Bragtown) is a neighborhood located in the northeastern corner of Durham, North Carolina. The community is centered on N. Roxboro Street (Business US-501) and the Old Oxford Highway. The area has been within the Durham city limits since the 1950s. Branford Marsalis, the noted jazz saxophonist, named his 2006 album Braggtown after the neighborhood; Marsalis has been a resident of the Durham area for the past few years.

The Catsburg Country Store was located at the junction of Old Oxford Highway and Hamlin Road in Durham County, North Carolina, sited roughly halfway between Durham and Butner, near historic Stagville Plantation. This two-story, hip-roofed, frame structure was a well-preserved box-and-canopy store that survived until it was dismantled for preservation and relocation in 2020. Built in the 1920s by Sheriff Eugene G. Belvin, it had a high false front, and a one-story gable-roof supported by large wooden posts. After the location closed for business and was abandoned in the 1990's, the Catsburg Country Store was still widely recognized as a local landmark. Its renown came from the large painted image of a black cat on the front parapet above the word Catsburg, which led to the building becoming a favorite of local photographers and artists. This part of town is called Catsburg as a tribute to the late Sheriff Belvin, whose nickname was "Cat." Belvin was an extremely popular sheriff in Durham County who earned his nickname through his ability to sneak up on bootleggers and moonshiners in the 1920s. Little to nothing is known of "Cat" but some say that his knack for finding local stills had much to do with his being a distiller himself and "wiping out the competition".Surrounding the old store, Catsburg Natural Area contains a Basic Mesic Forest with two rare plant species. The site was a Registered Heritage Area owned in part by the Army Corps of Engineers; the remainder is privately owned.The disassembly of the structure by Preservation Durham was completed in 2020 after a widely publicized search for a new caretaker for the building, which had been offered for free to anyone who would move it. As of 2022, the original location now serves as a makeshift parking area for tractor trailers and an illegal dumping ground.

The Museum of Life and Science—previously known as the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science and the NC Children's Museum—is an 84-acre (340,000 m2) science museum located in Durham, North Carolina, United States. The museum campus lies in the midst of the Northgate Park neighborhood, bisected by Murray Avenue. The main building is located on the north tract, along with the Butterfly House, Hideaway Woods, Farmyard, Sprout Cafe, Explore the Wild nature park, Catch the Wind, Dinosaur Trail, and the 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge Ellerbe Creek C.P. Huntington train ride. The museum features both indoor and outdoor learning environments. The southern tract is now largely devoted to parking and administrative buildings, including a parking deck completed in early 2018. Prior to the construction of the new main building in the early 1990s, the structures on the southern tract contained the bulk of the museum's exhibit space.

North Carolina Specialty Hospital (NCSH) is a specialty hospital located in northern Durham, North Carolina. The hospital provides orthopaedic, ophthalmogic, otolaryngology (ENT), plastic, and general surgery care, as well as pain management techniques and podiatric care. NCSH is the oldest hospital in Durham, dating back to 1926, when it was formed as an eye, ear, nose, and throat hospital originally known as McPherson Hospital, named after Dr. Samuel McPherson, an EENT specialist. In the early-1990s, the hospital was renamed as the North Carolina Eye and Ear Hospital. It was located at the time in its original building in downtown Durham, near the East Campus of Duke University. In May 2005, NCSH moved to its current location in northern Durham, and was renamed as North Carolina Specialty Hospital in 2000. In 2009, North Carolina Specialty Hospital was named the top hospital in North Carolina, and among the top 10 in the United States, for its patient care ratings, per the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), a division of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). NCSH is jointly owned by National Surgical Hospitals (NSH), and physicians from North Carolina Eye and Ear Associates and Triangle Orthopaedic Associates.

Voyager Academy is an elementary, middle, and high school in the northern part of Durham, North Carolina, United States, and is located in Independence Park. It was founded in 2005. Current enrollment is approximately 1350 students across grades K-12. Voyager is a charter school and uses a lottery to admit students.

Duke Regional Hospital (DRH), located in northern Durham, North Carolina is a general-services hospital that has been part of the Duke University Health System since 1998. The hospital has 369 beds and over 500 physicians on the medical staff, and has a certified Level II Intensive Care Nursery.

Geer Cemetery (1876–1939), is an African-American cemetery located on Colonial Street between McGill Place and Camden Avenue in northeast Durham, North Carolina. It has also been known as City Cemetery, Old City Cemetery, East Durham Cemetery, and Mason Cemetery.

Durham County Memorial Stadium is an 8,500-seat multi-purpose stadium located in Durham, North Carolina. Originally built in 1958, the stadium underwent significant renovations in 2010 that updated the facility to include an artificial turf lined for soccer, football and lacrosse and a track and field facility with an eight lane track. Durham County Memorial Stadium is the home field of Northern Durham High School Football, Carolina Flyers of the AUDL and Tobacco Road FC of USL-2. The stadium is also used as a special events facility hosting local, regional and national events. The stadium hosted Shaw University Football from 2007 to 2018, and again after the 2022 season. Shaw also hosts a majority of their men's and women's soccer matches at the stadium despite the school's location in neighboring Wake County. Durham County Memorial Stadium is managed by the Durham County Memorial Stadium Authority and owned by the County of Durham.

WTIK (1310 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Regional Mexican format. Licensed to Durham, North Carolina, United States, the station serves the Triangle area. The station is currently owned by Claudino Bonerges, Ashley Padilla Ayala, Brian Padilla, and Alexis Padilla, through licensee A&B Media LLC.

Whitehall Terrace, also known as the Richard H. Wright II House, is a Colonial Revival mansion in Durham, North Carolina. Completed in 1929, it was built for businessman Richard H. Wright II and his wife, Mary Scalon Wright. Whitehall Terrace was one of the first houses constructed on the north side of Durham's Duke Park neighborhood. Recognized as a historic landmark by the Durham City-County Planning Department and the Durham Architectural and Historic Inventory, it was included in Duke Park's nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.

WRJD (1410 AM) is a radio station based in Durham, North Carolina, which currently broadcasts a Spanish Christian format. It was a heritage radio station that went by WSRC for over half a century.

Dillard-Gamble Houses are two historic homes located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. One house is in the Colonial Revival style and the other is in the International Style.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
