Holt Park

Ralph Thoresby School is a foundation secondary school and sixth form located in Holt Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Named after the antiquarian Ralph Thoresby, the comprehensive school accommodates about 1000 pupils aged between 11 and 18. Ralph Thoresby School is part of the North West Leeds Education Partnership Trust with local Primary Schools. At 6th Form Level the school is part of a partnership arrangement with Lawnswood School. The school provides for pupils with severe physical and visual impairment.

Lawnswood is a small suburb in the north west of the city of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England. As such it is north north east of the West Yorkshire Urban Area. The suburb falls within the Adel and Wharefdale Ward of the City of Leeds Council.

The Tinshill BT Tower (also known locally as Cookridge Tower, or Tinshall BT Radio Station) is a 60.96 metres ( 200 ft) tall telecommunication tower located on the east side of Otley Old Road in the north of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is in an elevated part of Leeds, with its base 192 metres above sea level. It is one of fourteen BT towers built of reinforced concrete. The tower is 53 metres tall and consists of a steel lattice tower on top of a concrete base. It was built in 1951 as part of chain of stations relaying television between Telephone House in Manchester and Kirk O'Shotts in Scotland, part of the British Telecom microwave network.In 2002 it had 16 large microwave dishes providing point-to-point communications, and roughly 50 other small microwave dishes, mobile phone, paging and TETRA transmitters. The BT dishes were 3 and 3.7 metres diameter and mostly transmitted on 11 GHz.In 2002, prompted by a request from the local MP, Harold Best, it was the subject of a study by the Health Protection Agency, who concluded that the radio emissions from its various transmitters, were well below levels which might cause a risk to health for people nearby.

Ireland Wood is a small residential area in north-west Leeds, West Yorkshire, England named after the Woodland Trust wood which it contains. It is approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) to the north-west of Leeds city centre. It was planned by Leeds Housing Director RAH Livett and won the Ministry Housing medal for 1945-9. An early plan of Ireland Wood in 1950 is shown on the Leodis website .The estate was constructed throughout the 1950s and provided a refuge from the slum houses in industrial parts of the city which they (along with other similar areas) replaced. This estate is particularly leafy, due to the amount of greenery and woodland surrounding. The area's main thoroughfare is the Otley Old Road. It sits in the Weetwood ward of Leeds City Council and Leeds North West parliamentary constituency. The district is close to the Holt Park, Cookridge and Tinshill areas and the Leeds Ring Road.

Breary Marsh is a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest situated adjacent to Golden Acre Park in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, grid reference SE264416.

The Leeds Country Way is a circular long-distance footpath of 62 miles (99 km) around Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is never more than 7 miles (11 km) from City Square, Leeds, but is mainly rural with extensive views in the outlying areas of the Leeds metropolitan district. It follows public Rights of Way including footpaths, bridleways and minor lanes, with a few short sections along roads.

Lawnswood High School was a girls' grammar school in Lawnswood, north Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, close to the A660.

Cookridge is a suburb of north-west Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, north of the Leeds Outer Ring Road. In 1715 Ralph Thoresby described it as a village four miles from Leeds and three from Otley, dating from 1540.A mixture of suburban and council owned properties on the border with Holt Park and Tinshill, the area sits in both the Adel & Wharfedale ward of Leeds City Council and the Leeds North West parliamentary constituency. Before 2004, the area sat within Cookridge ward, named after the area. Nearby places include Adel, Holt Park, Tinshill, Horsforth, Bramhope, Moor Grange and Ireland Wood. Cookridge is one of the highest points in Leeds, with the elevation rising to 198 m (650 ft) above sea level close to the water tower on the eastern edge of the suburb. Cookridge holds an annual scarecrow festival hosted by the Leeds Modernians.

Golden Acre Park is a public park in Bramhope, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England (grid reference SE267417), administered by Leeds City Council. It is on the A660 Otley Road and covers an area of 179 acres (72 ha).

The Grade I listed, mainly Norman Church of Saint John the Baptist in Adel, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England has been described by Nicholas Pevsner as 'one of the best and most complete Norman churches in Yorkshire'. It is most notable for its magnificent south doorway with surrounding carvings, and highly carved Norman chancel arch. There is also a replica of a 13th-century sanctuary ring on the exterior of the south door, the original having unfortunately been stolen in 2002. The church is an active Anglican parish church in the archdeaconry of Leeds and the Diocese of Leeds.

Tinshill (pronounced Tins-hill) is a district of Leeds, 4 miles (7 km) north of Leeds city centre, West Yorkshire, England. It was the Danes in the 9th century who named the hill "Tyndr's Hyll".The district is in the Weetwood ward of Leeds City Council. It is situated between Horsforth and Cookridge. When the estate was planned in the 1940s it was originally known as the 'Cookridge Tower Estate'. The estate predated surrounding estates such as Ireland Wood and Moor Grange. Holt Park came many years later and provided many facilities such as an Asda supermarket, shopping centre, leisure centre and secondary school. The area was mainly made up of council-owned social housing although a growing number of these houses are now privately owned. It is near to the Tinshill BT Tower also known as the Cookridge Tower, one of the highest points in the city. Horsforth railway station is closer to Tinshill than Horsforth; the station is on the Cookridge side of the Moseley beck. Tinshill is made up of a mix of former and current local authority housing, as well as many privately built houses that were constructed around the time Tinshill estate was being developed.
