Houston ( HOW-stən) is an unincorporated community in northern Loramie Township, Shelby County, Ohio, United States. It has a post office, a dollar general, and a grain elevator. The transmitter site of WHIO-FM (formerly WPTW-FM, WCLR and WDPT respectively and licensed to Piqua) is located south of the community on Aiken Road adjacent to State Route 66. The southern portion of the community was once known as Mount Jefferson, according to vintage road maps of the county before consolidation in the 1950s. The unincorporated junction of Dawson is located a mile to the east on Hardin Station-Houston Road near the Conrail tracks....Further east by two miles is Bunker Hill within rural Loramie Township, noted for the Bunker Hill Baptist Church located near a wooded area and near the intersection of Houston Road and Patterson-Halpin Road.

At 958 feet (292 m) above sea level, it is not on a summit, but is located on the south slope of the valley formed by Ninemile Creek, a tributary of Loramie Creek.Mount Jefferson was platted on January 12, 1838, by Jonathan Counts on land owned by Samuel Farnum. Three churches—Christian, Episcopal, and Presbyterian—were organized in the community, but it never grew significantly; only one store and a few houses were ever built in the community.

The William English House is a historic farmhouse in the far western portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. Located along State Route 47 northeast of the village of Versailles in the northeastern corner of Darke County, the house was built in 1881 as the residence of William English, an astronomically-inclined farmer. English was a native of Ireland who immigrated to the United States in 1823. Besides farming, English operated a brickworks on his property, and his employees generally lived in the same house as his family. Consequently, the house is significantly larger than was necessary for the family members alone.When English erected a new Italianate house in 1881, he ensured that its details aligned with certain astronomical features. Four doors and eight windows on the front (western side) of the house are placed to face exactly westward, and multiple doors on recessed porches on the southern side of the house are placed so that the sun's light illuminates them at noon on a certain day of the year. The house's location atop a small hill overlooking State Route 47 ensures that the light of the sun is more frequently cast upon it.In 1982, the English House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its well-preserved historic architecture.
