The Northeast Correctional Complex is a state prison located in the community Doe Valley, few miles outside the town of Mountain City, Johnson County, Tennessee, owned and operated by the Tennessee Department of Correction. The facility holds 1819 male inmates and opened in 1991.

Doe Valley is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Tennessee. The community is located along Tennessee State Route 67 west of Mountain City and east of Butler, and lies roughly adjacent to the communities of Pandora (to the southwest) and Dewey (to the northeast). It is the location of the Tennessee Department of Correction's Northeast Correctional Complex. Doe Valley is situated in the upper Doe Creek Valley between the Iron Mountains to the north and Doe Mountain to the south.

Mountain City is a town in and the county seat of Johnson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,415 at the 2020 census. It is the northeasternmost county seat in Tennessee. Midway is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Tennessee. Midway is located on U.S. Route 421 and Tennessee State Route 34 4.7 miles (7.6 km) south-southeast of Mountain City.

Doeville is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Tennessee. It is concentrated around the intersection of Tennessee State Route 67 and Tennessee State Route 167, west of Mountain City and east of Butler. The community of Pandora lies immediately to the northeast along S.R. 67. Doeville is situated in the lower Doe Creek Valley, near the stream's confluence with Roan Creek at the headwaters of Watauga Lake. It is surrounded by mountains on all sides, namely Sink Mountain to the south, Doe Mountain to the east, and the Iron Mountains to the north and west. The Johnson County Airport is located nearby.

Beaverdam Creek (conservation area), a wildland in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests of western Virginia and the Cherokee National Forest of eastern Tennessee, has been recognized by the Wilderness Society as a special place worthy of protection from logging and road construction. The Wilderness Society has designated the area as a "Mountain Treasure".Located on upper Holston Mountain, the area is bordered by Beaverdam Creek, a trout stream that is home to the hellbender, one of the largest salamanders in the world.The area is part of the Mount Rogers Cluster.

Sutherland is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Tennessee, United States. Sutherland is located .6 miles (0.97 km) south of the border with Virginia on Tennessee State Route 133.

London Bridge Branch, a wildland in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests of western Virginia and the Cherokee National Forest of eastern Tennessee, has been recognized by the Wilderness Society as a special place worthy of protection from logging and road construction. The Wilderness Society has designated the area as a "Mountain Treasure".With good views of Doe Valley, Rogers Ridge and Mount Rogers from rocky outcrops, the Iron Mountain Trail runs along the length of the area and has a connection with the Appalachian Trail.The area is part of the Mount Rogers Cluster.

Parker is an unincorporated community in Ashe County, North Carolina, United States, on North Carolina Highway 88. It lies at an elevation of 3,136 feet (956 m).

Roan Creek is a tributary of the Watauga River that rises near the border between the U.S. states of Tennessee and North Carolina. Its source is located along the slopes of Snake Mountain near Trade in Johnson County, Tennessee. From its source, Roan Creek flows north, then turns west around the northern end of Stone Mountain. Then it flows south and west through Cherokee National Forest in the valley between Stone Mountain and Doe Mountain, until entering the Watauga River and Watauga Lake, the reservoir behind Watauga Dam. Its waters eventually flow through the Watauga River, the Holston River, the Tennessee River, the Ohio River, and the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico. In 2005 Roan Creek was cited as one of the top ten most endangered rivers by American Rivers, a national non-profit conservation organization focused on rivers.

Damascus is a small town in Washington County, Virginia. The population was 814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kingsport–Bristol (TN)–Bristol (VA) Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol, TN-VA Combined Statistical Area (commonly known as the "Tri-Cities" region).
