Southmayd (the latter syllable pronounced like "maid") is a city in Grayson County, Texas, United States. The population was 992 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sherman–Denison Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center (WNJ), formerly Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital–WNJ, is a hospital in Sherman, Texas. Named for the Choctaw chief Wilson Nathaniel Jones (1827-1901), it has 237 beds, and employs 1000 staff. It was established in 1914.In 2014, Alecto Healthcare Services acquired the hospital from Texas Health Resources. In 2023, the hospital declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The Paul Brown Federal Building and United States Courthouse, also known as Sherman U.S. Federal Building, is a historic government building in Sherman, Texas. It was built during 1906-1907 and reflects Renaissance Revival architecture. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000 as the US Post Office and Courthouse. It served historically as a post office (until 1962) and continues to serve as a federal courthouse for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. In 2014, the building was renamed in honor of District Judge Paul Neeley Brown.It is a three-story limestone-clad building on a granite base with a red clay tiled hipped roof.

The Sherman, Texas bus accident occurred when a bus chartered by Vietnamese pilgrims crashed in Texas on Friday 8 August 2008, killing at least 17 people and injuring dozens more, police said. The bus, carrying 55 people, drove off an overpass bridge of northbound U.S. 75 shortly after midnight and crashed near the town of Sherman, Texas, some 64 mi (103 km) north of Dallas. Sherman police said a blown tire on the bus may have caused the driver to lose control. Local media said that the group was from the Vietnamese Martyrs' Church, Our Lady of Lavang, and Our Lady of Lourdes of Houston, Texas. The bus was one of three buses carrying Vietnamese Catholics on their way to the annual Marian Days celebration in Carthage, Missouri in honor of the Virgin Mary. The bus tire was apparently recapped; the bus charter company had a history of safety violations, and the driver had a criminal record. The bus owner was identified as Iguala BusMex Inc. Following the crash, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration temporarily stopped issuing new bus company licenses. The bus did not have seat belts. Some people have called for mandatory seat belts and safety glass in highway coaches.

Perrin Air Force Station (ADC ID: RP-78, NORAD ID: Z-78) is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located 1.3 miles (2.1 km) southeast of North Texas Regional Airport, Texas. It was closed in 1971.

Grayson College is a public community college in Grayson County, Texas. The main campus is in Denison and it has branch campuses in Denison (west extension, at the site of the old Perrin Air Force Base) and Van Alstyne (south campus).
