Bayfordbury

Bayfordbury Observatory is the University of Hertfordshire's astronomical and atmospheric physics remote sensing observatory, and one of the largest teaching observatories in the UK. It is located in the relatively dark countryside of Bayfordbury, Hertfordshire, 6 miles from the main university campus in Hatfield. The first telescope was built in 1969, and since then has been used as a teaching observatory for undergraduate students, staff and student research as well as for public outreach activities.

Bayford Brook is a minor tributary of the River Lea. It forms in the hills near Bayford, Hertfordshire and joins the River Lea at Horns Mill Weir. The brook is mostly dry during periods of little rain, as it has a steady gradient with few pools to collect water. The brook is most easily viewed towards its northernmost point where is runs between the two parallel Brickendon Lanes before disappearing into a culvert (illustrated in the photograph). It can also be clearly seen to the left of Brickendon Lane heading away from Hertford at coordinates 51.781884,-0.081008

Horns Mill Weir is a weir on the River Lea, next to Horns Mill, Hertford.

Hertingfordbury railway station was a station at Hertingfordbury, Hertfordshire, England, on the Hertford and Welwyn Junction Railway. It was a passenger station from December 1858 until 18 June 1951. It had a single platform and a small goods yard to the east. The line was finally closed to all traffic in 1962. The station building has been converted to a private residence, with the old line open as a public right of way, named the Cole Green Way.

Willowmead is a 1.5-hectare (3.7-acre) nature reserve in north Hertford. It is managed by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.The site is on the bank of the River Mimram, and it is wet woodland, mainly of alder trees which are often mature. Water voles and otters have been seen in the river. Water birds include kingfishers, mallards and mandarin ducks. There are breeding birds in the woodland, such as lesser spotted woodpeckers and spotted flycatcher.There is access from the road called Becketts.

Hertingfordbury is a small village in Hertfordshire, England, close to the county town of Hertford. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Hertingfordbury is also the name of a neighbouring civil parish, which does not contain the village. Hertingfordbury Village is located within the Castle ward of local government Hertford Town Council. The population of the civil parish as of the 2021 census was 689.
