It was built about 1830, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, L-shaped brick dwelling in the Greek Revival style. It features a two-story portico with pediment supported by four massive square columns. Also on the property are dependencies: a kitchen, meathouse, small storage barn, and large frame barn.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

A third story was added in the early 20th century. It features a two-story porch with turned post and balusters.It has been in continuous operation as an inn since 1881. Also on the property are the contributing wagon shed, storage cellar with granary above, log stable, and smokehouse.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.In 2021, the Hermitage Inn and Taphouse underwent an extensive renovation. The interior and exterior of both the inn and restaurant are fully updated, preserved using Historic Tax Credits, and modernized.

The original section was built in 1878–79 and expanded in 1909. It is composed of 3 two-story brick rectangles consisting of a large center section with lower and narrower wings. The building is styled with Neo-Colonial design features. The center section features a two-story projecting portico with pediment and supported by four Corinthian order fluted columns.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
