Grant County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,976. Its county seat is Petersburg. The county was created from Hardy County in 1866 and named for Civil War General and the 18th president of the United States Ulysses S. Grant.

The Scherr Formation is named after this town, and the type locality of the formation is here.The community was named after Arnold C. The Manor, also known as Peter and Jesse Hutton Farm, is a historic home located near Petersburg, Grant County, West Virginia. It was built about 1830, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, L-shaped brick dwelling in the Greek Revival style. It features a two-story portico with pediment supported by four massive square columns. Also on the property are dependencies: a kitchen, meathouse, small storage barn, and large frame barn.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Cabins lies within the Spruce Knob–Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area of the Monongahela National Forest. According to the Geographic Names Information System, Cabins has also been known throughout its history as Cabin, Corner, Corners, and Hyre's Rock. The Board on Geographic Names officially decided upon Cabins as the community's name in 1965. The origin of the name "Cabins" is obscure.
