Madeira Park

Pender Harbour (ḵalpilin in she shashishalhem) is a harbour on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast, on the east side of Malaspina Strait. The name Pender Harbour also refers collectively to the surrounding unincorporated communities of Madeira Park, Kleindale, Irvines Landing, and Garden Bay, within the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD).The harbour itself is an intricate amalgam of bays and coves that encroach inland for five kilometres and provide over 60 kilometres of shoreline. Once a vibrant shíshálh village site, steamer stop, a fishing village, and an important logging and medical waypoint, it is now home to a population of under 3,000, with over 40% of property owners being non-resident (one of them Joni Mitchell, since the early 1970s). Tourism is an important part of the local economy. The area has an arts community and several annual music festivals. It hosts the second-oldest May Day celebration in British Columbia [1] and the biggest and longest-running downhill longboard race in Canada, Attack of Danger Bay.

Francis Peninsula, also known as Beaver Island, is a tidal island located on the west coast of the Sechelt Peninsula in British Columbia, Canada.

Garden Bay Marine Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada at the northwest end of the Sechelt Peninsula on the lower Sunshine Coast, near the community of Madeira Park. Established in 1969, it contains approximately 163 ha.

Irvines Landing was the first post-contact settlement in the ḵalpilin (Pender Harbour) area, and quickly became a hub for supplies and provisions. The first settler in Pender Harbour was an English immigrant named Charles Irvine, who established a small trading post in 1865. Steve Dames, a displaced seaman from Riga, Latvia, and Joe Perry of Cape Verde became familiar with Irvines Landing, and purchased it in 1898. Perry's father-in-law, Joseph Gonsalves of Madeira Island, later moved up from Brockton Point (now Stanley Park in Vancouver). Under the name Gonsalves and Dames General Traders, they expanded their holdings and built the Irvines Landing Hotel and Store. An early Union Steamer stop for settlers and loggers, it grew into a fish-processing centre and later a yacht anchorage and vacation spot. Often referred to as Irvine's Landing, the official name has no apostrophe according to the BC Geographical Names service, Irvines Landing. This is in keeping with the convention established in the late 1800s of removing apostrophes from place names in Canada.

Francis Point Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada, located on the southwest end of the Francis Peninsula, south of the community of Pender Harbour on the west side of the Sechelt Peninsula in the Sunshine Coast region. Established in 2004, the park is 81 ha. in size, 72 ha. of it upland, the other 9 ha. foreshore.

Agamemnon Channel (shashishalh lilkw´ émin) is a channel or strait in British Columbia, Canada, at the mouth of Jervis Inlet on the South Coast, separating Nelson Island (W and NW) from the mainland of the Sunshine Coast (E and SE). The ferry terminal and recreational community of Earls Cove is on its mainland side.

Ambrose Lake is a coastal lake on the Sunshine Coast at the north end of the Sechelt Peninsula in Sunshine Coast Regional District, British Columbia, Canada. It is about 850 metres (2,789 ft) long and 550 metres (1,804 ft) wide, and lies at an elevation of 57 metres (187 ft) about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) southwest of the community of Earls Cove and 450 metres (1,476 ft) east of the Agamemnon Channel. The primary outflow is an unnamed creek to Ruby Lake. The origin of the name is unknown, but was adopted officially on July 28, 1945.The Ambrose Lake Ecological Reserve encompasses the lake, in part to protect bog landscapes on the northern edge of the lake and along the outlet creek to Ruby Lake, landscapes seldom found elsewhere in southwest British Columbia.

The Caren Range is a low and mostly tree-covered mountain range in the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains in southwestern British Columbia, Canada. It lies along the eastern shore of the Sechelt Peninsula, southeast of Sakinaw Lake, about 74 km northwest of Vancouver. It has an area of 169 km2 and contains Spipiyus Provincial Park. The name of the range is a long-standing misinterpretation of Carew. It was named for Benjamin Hallowell Carew. The range is noted for its ancient trees.: 38 

Earls Cove is a small settlement located on Jervis Inlet in the Sunshine Coast region of British Columbia. It is a terminal for the BC Ferries route across the inlet to Saltery Bay, linking the Lower Sunshine Coast with the Upper Sunshine Coast. Earls Cove is at the north end of the Sechelt Peninsula and on the east side of the mouth of Jervis Inlet, adjacent to Agamemnon Channel, across which is Nelson Island.

Spipiyus Provincial Park is a 2,979 hectare provincial park in British Columbia, Canada. Also known as the Caren Range, Spipiyus Park is north of Halfmoon Bay on the Sechelt Peninsula. It protects pockets of old-growth forest, prime habitat for the marbled murrelet. There are hiking trails that lead to Mount Hallowell with views of the islands and fjords of Pender Harbour, the Strait of Georgia and Vancouver Island.

Halfmoon Bay (xwilkway in she shashishalhem) is a small community in British Columbia, Canada, within the shíshálh swiya (the lands, birthplace, or "Territory" of the shíshálh Nation), and Electoral Area B of the Sunshine Coast Regional District. The population consists of approximately 2,800 people, including a large number of seasonal residents. The community is named for the large scalloped bay on which it sits, which is sheltered by South Thormanby Island and Vancouver Island. The community can be access via Redrooffs Road, so-named after a popular local resort which once featured a cluster of cabins, all with red roofs. Some homes are also located off Highway 101. Halfmoon Bay Elementary School, the community's only elementary school, has 200–300 students ranging from kindergarten to grade seven. The school performs extremely well for one of its size, achieving BC Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) scores above those of many private schools. Halfmoon bay secondary students may choose to attend one of the three local high schools: Pender Harbour Secondary, Chatelech Secondary, and Elphinstone Secondary. Halfmoon Bay was once named Priestland Bay after the Priestland family who settled in the area in 1899. Its present-day English name comes from the shape of the bay.
