It lies on the eastern slopes of the limestone Kesteven Uplands and the western edge of the Fens, 11 miles (18 km) north-east of Stamford, 12 miles (19 km) west of Spalding and 17 miles (27 km) north of Peterborough. The population at the 2011 census was 14,456. A 2019 estimate put it at 16,780.

Bourne Castle was a castle in the market town of Bourne in southern Lincolnshire (grid reference TF095199). A Norman castle was built by Baldwin FitzGilbert (son of Gilbert Fitz Richard, of the De Clare family). In medieval times there was motte and double bailey castle which formed an unusual concentric plan. The castle was destroyed after being used by Cromwell's troops in 1645 and a farmhouse was built on the site. Traces of the enclosed mound and inner and outer moats (forming part of the Bourne Eau) are all that now survive.The land the castle occupied is now a park, known as the Wellhead Park, owned by the Bourne United Charities and is open to the public.The first reference to Bourne Castle was in the 1179/80 Pipe Roll. There are other mentions of Bourne Castle throughout its history including the IPM (Inquisition Post Mortem) and the Close Rolls.

Bourne Festival is an annual music event held in Wellhead Park in the market town of Bourne, Lincolnshire, England. The festival is a charity event organised by Bourne and District Round Table 896, a member of the National Association of Round Tables of Great Britain and Ireland. It was first held in 2002 in celebration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, and was originally a collaboration between The Queen's Golden Jubilee Committee and Bourne Round Table, reviving the previously held '999 Galas'. The Bourne and District Round Table has run the festival with the help of volunteers as an annual event on the first weekend following the Spring Bank Holiday. Since the first festival in 2002, more than £250,000 has been raised for local and national charities, and individuals.The Festival includes live music from all genres. The headlining acts have included Doctor and the Medics. Since 2010 the event has included a battle of the bands competition for up-and-coming talent under the age of 18.

The Chapel of Rest is a Grade II listed cemetery chapel in Bourne, Lincolnshire. It was built in 1854-5 in Gothic Revival style, and designed by the noted local architect Edward Browning. It consisted of Anglican and Nonconformist chapels in a single building.

Bourne Academy is an 11 to 18 mixed comprehensive school and a co-educational academy located in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England. It is one of two secondary schools, both co-educational, in the town, the other being Bourne Grammar School. Bourne Academy is a part of the South Lincolnshire Academies Trust (SLAT), together with Spalding Academy, Spalding and Giles Academy, Boston. Bourne Academy is situated on Edinburgh Crescent, to the north of the town next to the Leisure Centre. The school badge represents the Wake knot, a heraldic device referring to the Wake family, previous Lords of the Manor of Bourne, and similar to the carrick bend.
