Champex Pass

Champex (French pronunciation: [ʃɑ̃pe]; also Champex-Lac) is a village located in the French-speaking Swiss canton of Valais, part of the municipality of Orsières. The village lies at 1,470 metres on the shore of Lac de Champex, at the foot of the Mont Blanc Massif. It is a starting point for many hikes into the surrounding mountains and huts (La Breya, Cabane du Trient, Le Catogne). Champex is also a small ski resort. The Champex Pass is located a few hundred metres west of Champex.

Lac de Champex is a lake in Valais, Switzerland. Its surface area is 11 ha (27 acres). The village of Champex is situated on the shores.

La Breya (2,374 m) is a mountain of the Mont Blanc massif, overlooking Champex in the canton of Valais. It is accessible by chair lift from Champex, the upper station being located at Grands Plans (2,194 m). From there a trail leads to its summit.

Le Catogne is a mountain on the extreme north-eastern edge of the Mont Blanc massif, overlooking Champex in the Swiss canton of Valais. Some sources consider this summit as being within the Pennine Alps.

Orsières railway station (French: Gare d'Orsières) is a railway station in the municipality of Orsières, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is the southern terminus of the standard gauge Martigny–Orsières line of Transports de Martigny et Régions. It is the southernmost station on the Swiss side of the Great St Bernard Pass; bus services connect it with Aosta in Italy.

It is located on the standard gauge Martigny–Orsières line of Transports de Martigny et Régions, at the point where the line splits, with branches going to Le Châble and Orsières.

Le Génépi (2,884 m) is a mountain of the Swiss Mont Blanc massif, located west of Champex in the canton of Valais. It is the culminating point of the group lying north of the Fenêtre d'Arpette.

Frutigen-Niedersimmental District in the Canton of Bern was created on 1 January 2010. It is part of the Oberland administrative region. It contains 13 municipalities with an area of 773.93 km2 (298.82 sq mi) and a population (as of December 2008) of 38,871.
