The Knobstone Escarpment is a rugged geologic region in Southern Indiana. Physically, the Knobstone Escarpment is the most rugged terrain in Indiana. The highest hill in the area is Weed Patch Hill, with an elevation of 1,060 feet above sea level. The escarpment's most prominent feature is its steep hills, often called "knobs", and ravines. Brown County State Park features views from the region's highest elevations. This bold ridge, towering hundreds of feet above the Scottsburg Lowland to the east, extends from southern Johnson County 150 miles southward across the Ohio River into Kentucky. These scenic hills mark the easternmost extension of rocks forming the rugged country of the Norman Upland to the west. The Hills of Brown County are a well-known example of Norman Upland topography.The Knobstone Escarpment is composed of resistant siltstones of the upper part of Borden Group rocks. Older and more easily eroded shales to the east form the Scottsburg Lowland; a thick section of soluble limestones form the undulating Mitchell Plain west of the Norman Upland.

Weed Patch Hill, also known as Weed Patch Knob (1,058 feet or 322 m), is the third highest named summit in the U.S. state of Indiana. Located in Washington Township and Brown County State Park, it is the highest point in the Knobstone Escarpment. In Indiana, only Hoosier Hill (1,257 feet or 383 m) in Wayne County and Sand Hill (1,076 feet or 328 m) in Noble County are higher. Weed Patch Hill was so named by an early settler after a tornado had flattened a stand of trees and weeds grew in its place.

It was built between 1870 and 1875, and is a two-story, balloon frame building measuring 24 feet wide by 90 feet deep. The interior retains a number of original features including oak pane flooring.: 2 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Brown County Courthouse Historic District

Brown County Courthouse Historic District is a historic courthouse and national historic district located at Nashville, Brown County, Indiana. It encompasses three contributing buildings: the courthouse, Old Log Jail, and the Historical Society Museum Building. The Brown County Courthouse was built in 1873–1874, and is a two-story, Greek Revival style brick building. It has a gable roof and two-tiered, flat-roofed frame tower. The Old Log Jail was built in 1879, and is a small two-story log building. It measures 12 feet by 20 feet, and was used as a jail until 1922. The Historical Society Museum Building, or Brown County Community Building, is a two-story, rectangular log building. It was moved to its present location in 1936–1937. The Works Progress Administration funded the reconstruction and remodeling of the building.: 2–4 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The house was built in 1891, and is a two-story, T-shaped frame dwelling. It rests on a sandstone foundation and features three prominent projecting gables. The Stone Head Road Marker was erected in 1851. It was carved of sandstone by local gravestone carver Henry Cross.: 2–3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
