Edam, Netherlands

The Zuidpoldermolen is a windmill in Edam, dated between 1626-35 and was used to grind grain and drain a polder: low land that has been reclaimed from the sea and diked. The mill is owned by the Dutch Windmill Society.

Edam-Volendam (Dutch: [eːˌdɑm ˈvoːlə(n)ˌdɑm] (listen)) is a municipality in the northwest Netherlands, in the province of North Holland, primarily consisting of the towns of Edam and Volendam. It is situated on the western shore of the Markermeer, just north of Waterland. In 2019, it had a population of 36,099. Since 2016, the former municipality of Zeevang has merged with the municipality of Edam-Volendam.

The Volendam New Year's fire was a café fire in the Dutch town of Volendam during the 2000–2001 New Year's night. The fire began early on New Year's Day 2001 and caused the death of 14 young people. There were in all 241 people admitted to hospital, 200 of whom suffered serious burns.

The Kras Stadion (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkrɑˌstaːdijɔn]) is a multi-purpose stadium in Volendam, Netherlands. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of FC Volendam. The stadium is able to hold 6,984 people and was built in 1975.

Katwoude is a village in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the IJsselmeer, about 2 km north of Monnickendam. The village was first mentioned in 1310 as "lant van Kattwoude". The etymology is unclear. Even though there is a cat in the shield, it is unlikely to be related to the animal.Katwoude was home to 182 people in 1840. It used to be a separate municipality between 1817 and 1991, when it became part of Waterland. Katwoude used to share a mayor with Monnickendam.

Monnickendam (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌmɔnɪkənˈdɑm]) is a city in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the Markermeer, about 8 km (5.0 mi) southeast of Purmerend. It received city rights in 1355 and was damaged by the fires of 1500 and 1513.

Zeevang (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzeːvɑŋ] (listen)) is a former municipality in northwestern Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Since 2016, Zeevang has been part of the municipality of Edam-Volendam.
