Presidio of Monterey, California

Vance Barracks at Presidio of Monterey is a military structure that houses students of the Defense Language Institute(DLI). The institute’s foreign language center is the primary tenant organization of the United States Army garrison Presidio of Monterey (POM) located in Monterey, California about 117 miles south of San Francisco, on the Pacific coast of the United States of America. The barracks are named for Gene Arden Vance Jr., a US Special Forces graduate of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) who, despite being critically wounded, used his language skills to help save the lives of two fellow Americans and 18 Afghani soldiers during the War in Afghanistan (2001–14). Vance was the first alumni of DLIFLC to be killed in combat since the terrorist attacks on the US of September 2001. The Barrack’s plaque, features Vance’s face sculpted in bronze with an inscription dedicated to his life and achievements. Construction of the 2,823,098 sq. ft. barracks was overseen by the US Army Corps of Engineers and was completed in 2006 at an estimated cost of $8,800,000. The barracks were constructed to help improve the living conditions for DLI students and were specially designed to protect the occupants in the case of collapse by localizing failures without the continued collapse of the overall building. A Ribbon–Cutting Ceremony marking the official opening of Vance Barracks took place on Friday, Aug. 25, 2006.

The Defense Language Institute (DLI) is a United States Department of Defense (DoD) educational and research institution consisting of two separate entities which provide linguistic and cultural instruction to the Department of Defense, other federal agencies and numerous customers around the world. The Defense Language Institute is responsible for the Defense Language Program, and the bulk of the Defense Language Institute's activities involve educating DoD members in assigned languages, and international personnel in English. Other functions include planning, curriculum development, and research in second-language acquisition.

The Lou Ellen Parmelee House is a historic Queen Anne style house located at 570 Archer St. in Monterey, California. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. The house was deemed significant "as the best remaining example of Late Victorian Queen Anne high style residential design in Monterey", and also for the craftsmanship of its interior and exterior finishes, artistically. Built in 1896, it is well-preserved, with a 1946 extension removed in 2006.

Trinity Christian High School, formerly Calvary Christian High School, formerly Calvary Chapel High School is a private, coed, secondary Christian school in Monterey, California. It was established in 2001 by Calvary Chapel Church Monterey Bay as one of the first non-denominational Christian high schools in the Monterey Bay Area. The mission of Trinity Christian High School is to cultivate a stimulating environment, in partnership with the home and local church, which develops the whole student through a Biblically-based curriculum and through Christ-centered relationships in order to prepare the student to follow Jesus and to positively impact his/her community and the world.

The Battle of Monterey, at Monterey, California, occurred on 7 July 1846, during the Mexican–American War. The United States captured the town unopposed.

The James W. Finch House, known also as the Finch-Fleischer House, is a historic house in Monterey, California that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Located at 410 Monroe Street in Monterey, it was built in 1870. The house is significant as one of few surviving examples of early American architecture in Monterey, as opposed to the Spanish/Mexican adobe style of other Monterey buildings of the same era. The house includes Classical Revival stylings with other, eclectic stylistic features.The house was built by rancher and stovemaker James William Finch and by Charles Finch for their mother, who lived in the house until 1881, after which James and his wife lived there and extended the house. James' daughter Alma and her husband Charles Fleischer lived there later. A notable later renter was artist Charles Rollo Peters.The house was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1964. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Forest Hill Hotel is an historic hotel in Pacific Grove, California. It was opened on July 1, 1926 and is one of the highest buildings in Pacific Grove. It is currently the Pacific Grove Senior Living.

Trimmer Hill is a historic Queen Anne style house at 230 6th St. in Pacific Grove, California that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). It was built in 1893.It was built for medical Dr. Oliver Smith Trimmer, first mayor of Pacific Grove, and mayor for 20 years. It was listed on the NRHP in 1982.Its 1980 NRHP nomination asserts it is "an unaltered, exuberant example of period Queen Anne styling....one of the most outstanding examples of its type and period in a community which is known for its 19th century architecture." The house was also described as "'a very good example of the Queen Anne style'" in A Guide to Architecture in San Francisco and Northern California.

New Monterey is a former unincorporated community incorporated in Monterey in Monterey County, California. It is located north of the Presidio of Monterey, at an elevation of 56 feet (17 m). Monterey's famous Cannery Row is located in New Monterey neighborhood. The New Monterey post office operated from 1909 to 1913.
