Barker Inlet

Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary (ADS) is a marine protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located on the east coast of Gulf St Vincent in and adjoining the north-western part of the Adelaide, covering the estuary of the Port River around Port Adelaide and northwards past St Kilda. It was established in 2005 for the protection of a resident population of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops aduncus). The dolphins are keenly watched by dolphin enthusiasts, as well as being a tourist attraction, touted as the only city in the world with wild dolphins living in it.

Pelican Point is at the northern tip of Lefevre Peninsula, adjacent to the Port River shipping channel and the container terminal and associated infrastructure at Outer Harbor. A non-residential area, it is undergoing considerable industrial development, which is expected to continue as other projects, such as the Port River Expressway, come to fruition. Light Passage, named after founder of Adelaide Colonel William Light, lies in the Port Adelaide River between Pelican Point and Torrens Island.There is a ship's graveyard site at the northern end of Mutton Cove, near Pelican Point, there being a steel hulk of a steamship on the beach.

The Pelican Point Power Station is located at Pelican Point, 20 km from the centre of Adelaide, South Australia on the Lefevre Peninsula. It is operated by Engie (previously known as GDF Suez Australian Energy), which owns 72 per cent of the power station. Mitsui owns the remaining 28 per cent. It burns natural gas in a combined cycle power station, comprising two 160 MW gas turbines and one 165 MW steam turbine, to generate up to 485 MW of electricity.Construction began in 1999. The plant has two GT13E2 gas turbines manufactured by ABB (now Alstom). The plant, including steam turbine and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), was manufactured and constructed by ABB. Fuel is supplied via either the SEAGas pipeline, which runs from the Iona Gas Plant in Victoria to the Pelican Point power station, or the Moomba Adelaide Pipeline System (MAPS), which supplies gas from Moomba to Adelaide.

The SEA Gas pipeline (South East Australia Gas pipeline) is a 687 km natural gas pipeline from the Iona Gas Plant near Port Campbell in Victoria to the Pelican Point Power Station at Port Adelaide. It connects Adelaide's gas supply to sources from Victoria's Otway Basin, thus increasing the security of natural gas supply to Adelaide. The pipeline is owned and operated by South East Australia Gas Pty Ltd who are owned in a 50-50 partnership by APA Group (Australia) and the Retail Employees Superannuation Trust.

The Snapper Point Power Station is a gas turbine power station under construction at Outer Harbor, South Australia, right next to the existing Pelican Point Power Station. Snapper Point Power Station is owned by Nexif Energy and will be a peaking power plant to provide firm reliability for electricity supply contracts from Nexif's Lincoln Gap Wind Farm. It uses the five gas turbine generation units acquired from the Government of South Australia which had been used for the Temporary Generation North power station. It is expected to be online by 1 July 2023.

St Kilda is a coastal suburb in Adelaide, South Australia. Its seafront faces the Barker Inlet, which is part of the Port River estuarine area, the largest tidal estuary of Gulf St Vincent, and includes a large area of mangroves. St Kilda is an internationally recognised bird watching area with over 100 species of birds feeding in and around the mudflats, salt lagoons, mangroves and seagrass beds, which are part of the estuarine ecosystem. St Kilda has a small number of houses and a 2016 population of 70. There is a single connecting road from the suburb to the rest of Adelaide. The inhabited section of the suburb occupies less than 100 hectares (250 acres) along the seafront. The remainder of the land was formerly used for extensive salt evaporation ponds, although these are much fewer in number now. The settlement ponds of the Bolivar Waste Water Treatment Plant occupy some of the southern end of the suburb. St Kilda is bordered by Buckland Park to the north, Waterloo Corner to the east-north-east, Bolivar to the south and south-east, and Gulf St Vincent to the west. The suburb is home to a number of tourist attractions, including an adventure playground, tram museum, mangrove forest walk and an abundance of birdlife.

Outer Harbor is a suburb in the Australian state of South Australia located at the northern tip of the Lefevre Peninsula about 22 kilometres (14 mi) north-west of the Adelaide city centre.

Outer Harbor railway station is the terminus station of the Outer Harbor line. Situated in the north-western Adelaide suburb of North Haven, it is 21.9 kilometres from Adelaide station.

The St Kilda saltfields brine spill is an ongoing environmental disaster occurring in St Kilda, South Australia. Former salt production ponds are leaking brine into adjacent wetlands causing death and distress to mangroves, the salt marsh and intertidal ecological communities of Barker Inlet.

Quarantine Power Station is a gas-powered electricity generation facility near the northern end of Torrens Island in the northwestern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. It is at the opposite end of Torrens Island from AGL Energy's Torrens Island and Barker Inlet power stations. It gets its name from the Torrens Island Quarantine Station which was nearby. The power station is owned by Origin Energy and is configured as a peaking power plant. It has a capacity of 224MW produced by open cycle gas turbines. It was initially installed in 2002 with four Alstom GT10B (now designated Siemens SGT600 after Siemens bought the Alstom Medium-sized GT business) turbines generating 95MW of power. It was expanded in 2007 by the addition of a new 120MW General Electric Frame 9E gas turbine set. The power station is fuelled by natural gas, delivered by the EPIC energy & SEAGas pipeline.

The Osborne Naval Shipyard is a multi-user facility at Osborne on the Lefevre Peninsula in South Australia. It was established in 1987 for the Australian Submarine Corporation, and the first products of the facility were the six Collins-Class submarines.

North Haven is a north-western suburb of Adelaide that is 20km from the CBD, in the state of South Australia, Australia, and falls under the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. It is adjacent to Osborne and Outer Harbor. The post code for North Haven is 5018. It is bounded to the north and east by Oliver Rogers and Victoria Road, to the south by Marmora Terrace and the west by Gulf St Vincent. A small residential area that lies north of the Gulf Point Marina is often referred to as being a part of Outer Harbor (though it still lies within the boundaries of North Haven).
