Waca Lake

Pyramid Lake is a lake in the backcountry of the Desolation Wilderness in the Sierra Nevada of El Dorado County, California.

The Lake of the Woods is a backcountry glacial lake in the Desolation Wilderness of the Eldorado National Forest, southwest of Lake Tahoe, in El Dorado County, California. It lies just southeast of Lake Aloha. The lake is accessible by hiking west out of the Glen Alpine Springs Trailhead, Echo Lake (California) Trailhead or north out of the Twin Bridges Trailhead. The lake is known to contain Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout.

Lake Susie is an alpine lake West of South Lake Tahoe. The water level often becomes very low after late summer. A permit is required to stay overnight. There is a waterfall nearby, known as Susie Lake Falls.

Lost Lake is a lake in the Desolation Wilderness in the Sierra Nevada, south of Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County, California, United States. Not to be confused with Lost Lake Resort, which is near the Colorado River. Also not to be confused with the 'Lost Lake' off the Cajon Pass, also in California.

Ralston Peak is a mountain in the Sierra Nevada mountain range to the west of Lake Tahoe within the Desolation Wilderness in El Dorado County, California. Ralston Peak is a very popular mountain to summit for the views of the wilderness area as it lies very near U.S. Route 50. The closest trailhead to the summit can be found in Camp Sacramento a few miles west of Echo Summit. Ralston Peak can also be accessed from the Pacific Crest Trail between Echo Lake and Lake Aloha. Starting at the nearest trailhead (Echo Lake), this route is significantly longer than the trail from Camp Sacramento. But the altitude gain on this route is much less, and the trail is much less steep.

Dicks Peak is a 9,974-foot-elevation (3,040 meter) mountain summit located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in El Dorado County, California, United States. It is the third-highest peak in the Desolation Wilderness, and is set on land managed by Eldorado National Forest. It is situated six miles (9.7 km) south of Lake Tahoe, and approximately eight miles (13 km) west of the community of South Lake Tahoe. Topographic relief is significant as the west aspect rises over 2,300 feet (700 meters) above Rockbound Valley in approximately one mile. One-half mile east of the peak the Pacific Crest Trail and Tahoe Rim Trail traverse Dicks Pass, which provides an approach option for those climbing the peak. Inclusion on the Sierra Peaks Section peakbagging list generates climbing interest.

The Twin Bridges trailhead or Pyramid Creek trailhead is located off U.S. Route 50 a couple miles east of Strawberry, California, west of Echo Pass. Some of the destinations most accessed by the trailhead are Horsetail Falls (1 mi) and Ropi Lake (1.75 mi) or Lake of the Woods (3 mi) as well as the rest of the Desolation Wilderness. This trailhead offers a commonly accepted route to the summit of Pyramid Peak, although the most popular trailhead to Pyramid Peak is an unmarked trailhead at Rocky Canyon (which is about a mile west of the Pyramid Creek Trailhead). In winter only the first mile is easily accessible as there is very steep exposed terrain after the falls.

Twin Bridges is a small unincorporated community on U.S. Route 50 near the Desolation Wilderness in El Dorado County, California. It is located 5 miles (8 km) west of Echo Summit, at an elevation of 6,115 feet (1,864 m). It has a population of 14 people according to census figures, however, as of 2008, the road sign lists the population as 10. Right after the town, the U.S. 50 eastbound starts a steep ascent to Echo Summit, passing Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort shortly before the summit. When snow chains are required on the summit, Caltrans often establishes chain control in Twin Bridges.It is likely because of the limited availability of shoulders where chains can be installed on summit approaches. The ZIP codes are 95721 and 95735. The community is inside area code 530. The former ski area Edelweiss was just above Twin Bridges on US-50, at what is now called Camp Sacramento. It was the home hill for future Olympian ski racer Spider Sabich. He was raised in Kyburz, twelve miles (19 km) west, in the 1950s and early 1960s. A post office opened in Twin Bridges in 1947.

Gilmore Lake in California is a backcountry lake in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, to the west of Lake Tahoe in the Desolation Wilderness. It can be reached by hiking west out of the Glen Alpine Springs trailhead near the town of South Lake Tahoe. This lake offers great fishing for Lake trout.

Lover's Leap is a steep granite cliff band in El Dorado County, California, United States, a landmark which catches the eye as one travels by, and a popular destination for climbers. The origin of its name is unknown, but common to most Lover's Leaps, one version from local folklore says two Native Americans lovers leapt to their deaths from the summit.

The Glen Alpine Springs trailhead or Glen Alpine trailhead is located off Highway 89 a few miles north of South Lake Tahoe, California, at Fallen Leaf Lake just to the west of Lake Tahoe. The road to the trailhead is not plowed in winter. Some of the destinations most accessed by the trailhead are Susie Lake (five miles) and Grass Lake (two miles), as well as the rest of the Desolation Wilderness.

Mount Tallac is a mountain peak southwest of Lake Tahoe, in El Dorado County, California. The peak lies within the Desolation Wilderness in the Eldorado National Forest. It is quite visible from State Routes 89 and 28, and U.S. Route 50. A "cross of snow" is clearly visible on the mountain's face during the winter, spring, and early summer months. The mountain is shown on maps of the Whitney Survey as Chrystal Peak. In 1877, the Wheeler Survey named the peak "Tallac", after the Washo word "daláʔak", meaning 'big mountain'.An estimated 10,000 climb the peak each year via routes approaching the summit from Desolation Wilderness to the west, Fallen Leaf Lake to the East, and access roads from the north. Wilderness permits are required to hike Mount Tallac. For day hikes, permits are free and self-issued at the trailhead. There is a quota for overnight hikes on Mount Tallac (and throughout Desolation Wilderness), but there is no quota for day hiking.
