Holmfirth High School is a coeducational secondary school located on Heys Road in Thongsbridge, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, England. Holmfirth High School opened in 1959 and currently has over 1,300 pupils, split over five-year groups from years 7 to 11. As of 2018 the current head is Ben Stitchman. Based on the initial inspection by Ofsted in 2001 the school is situated in Holmfirth, a small town south of Huddersfield, on a pleasant rural site, in an area containing a mixture of types of housing and a wide socio-economic mix. The school takes pupils from a wide area. Pupils transfer from nine primary schools, many travelling several miles. At that time, more than 99.5 per cent of pupils were white with only three pupils with English as an additional language but none is in the early stage of learning English. About nine per cent of pupils were entitled to free school meals, a figure that is below the national average. The attainment of pupils coming to the school was comprehensive and a little above average.

Thongs Bridge railway station was the only intermediate stop on the railway line between Brockholes and Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, England. Opened in July 1850, the station was temporarily closed in 1865 due to the collapse of Mytholmbridge Viaduct. The station closed to passengers permanently in 1959, closing completely in 1965.

Scholes is a village in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated 1 mile (2 km) to the south-east and above Holmfirth, 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Huddersfield, in the Holme Valley. It has a population of 1,990. The name Scholes may have originated from the Scandinavian language meaning 'the temporary huts or sheds'. The village contains one non denominational primary school, originally built in 1908, modernised in 1976 and extended in 1986. The school caters for approximately 213 pupils aged four to eleven.Scholes was the birthplace of the entertainer Roy Castle, well known as the presenter of the long-running BBC show Record Breakers. Peter Brook was born in Scholes to farmer parents.

New Mill, West Yorkshire, England, is a small, semi-rural village near the town of Holmfirth. It is in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees and the civil parish of Holme Valley. The village had a population of 1,259 (with Fulstone) in the 2001 census. The village is 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Holmfirth and 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Huddersfield. The centre of the village is now on the crossroads of the Huddersfield - Sheffield A616 and Barnsley - Manchester A635 roads. There is a Post Office, one pub, one Indian restaurant, a branch of the local Co-op and 2 pharmacies plus other amenities all centred on the crossroads. The village centre used to be sited slightly further east near the church on Sude Hill. Unsurprisingly, there were textile mills in the village such as Moorhouse & Brookes, on Greenhill Bank Road, and Bower and Roebuck, nestling in the valley just off the A616 Sheffield Road. With the decline in traditional heavy woollen industries both these mills have now closed. Bower & Roebuck's Wildspur Mills provided an opportunity for property developers to convert it into flats, Moorhouse & Brookes' mill has been demolished and a new housing development built on the site.The village is also home to the New Mill Male Voice Choir, which was established in 1991.New Mill was created an urban district of the West Riding of Yorkshire in 1895, and covered the parishes of Fulstone, Hepworth and Scholes. The urban district was abolished in 1938 by a County Review Order which saw the district and parishes merged into the urban district and parish of Holmfirth, which has been since included in Kirklees, West Yorkshire and renamed Holme Valley.

Brockholes railway station serves the village of Brockholes, near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. It lies 4.25 miles (7 km) away from Huddersfield on the Penistone Line operated by Northern Trains. Trains passing between Brockholes and Shepley pass through a 1-mile (1.6 km) tunnel under Thurstonland. Opened in July 1850 by the Huddersfield & Sheffield Junction Railway (a satellite company of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway), the station was formerly the junction for the Holmfirth Branch Line, which opened on the same day as the main line but closed to passenger trains on 2 November 1959 and to goods traffic in May 1965. Goods traffic ceased to be handled at Brockholes in October 1964, with the station becoming an unstaffed halt in August 1966.The southbound platform went out of use when the Stocksmoor to Huddersfield section was singled in 1989. Only the northern end of the former Huddersfield-bound platform (which has been raised to modern standard height) is now used for rail services; the other end is disused and fenced off. The main buildings on the southbound side have been restored and converted into a private house, complete with heritage signage.

Holme Valley War Memorial is a war memorial in the grounds of the Holme Valley Memorial Hospital Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, in England. It was unveiled in July 1921, by Colonel H. R. Headlam (Rtd), who had previously commanded the 5th Battalion, Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment.The memorial consists of a simple cross with the names of fallen soldiers inscribed on it.

Thurstonland is a rural village in the civil parish of Kirkburton in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. It has a population of almost 400. Thurstonland Urban District was created in 1894 and merged with Farnley Tyas urban district in 1925. Both were abolished in 1938 under a County Review Order, and most of the district was merged into Kirkburton Urban District and the remainder into the Holmfirth Urban District. It is just outside the borders of the Peak District National Park. The village is situated on a hilltop above Brockholes and to the southeast of Farnley Tyas and north of Shepley in the Huddersfield (HD4) postal district. The village has a public house, First school - (Thurstonland Endowed First School), church, a children's recreational area and a cricket club. Apart from the pub on the southern edge of the village the other facilities are all located next to each other, at the northern edge. Through the hill is the Thurstonland Tunnel on the Penistone railway line, between Brockholes railway station and Stocksmoor railway station. Within and around the village are a number of small dairy farms, that supply the surrounding area.
