Market Rasen ( RAY-zən) is a market town and civil parish within the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The River Rase runs through it east to west, approximately 13 miles (21 km) north-east from Lincoln, 18 miles (29 km) east from Gainsborough, 14 miles (23 km) west of Louth, and 16 miles (26 km) south-west from Grimsby. It lies on the main road between Lincoln and Grimsby, the A46, and is famous for its racecourse. In 2001, the town had a population of 3,200. In the 2011 census, the population of the civil parish was 3,904.

Market Rasen Racecourse is a National Hunt racecourse in the town of Market Rasen, in Lincolnshire, England. It is owned and operated by Jockey Club Racecourses.Racing initially began at Market Rasen in the early 1800s, however found its current home in 1924, its first race meeting coming in April of that year. The course is a right-handed oval with a circumference of around one-and-a-quarter miles. Although National Hunt racing is traditionally a winter sport, Market Rasen stages a year-round programme of racing.Its most high-profile fixture is the Summer Plate meeting, normally staged on the third Saturday in July. This features the two-and-a-quarter miles Summer Hurdle and the eponymous Summer Plate, a two-and-three-quarter miles chase, both of which are among the most valuable National Hunt races staged in Britain during the summer months.Former jockey AP McCoy is the leading jockey by statistics, winning 27% of races he entered at Market Rasen. In 2014, he rode his 4,192nd winner beating friend and former colleague Martin Pipe's overall wins record.

Linwood is a small village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England, on the minor B1202 road about 2 miles (3 km) south from the town of Market Rasen. The population (including Buslingthorpe) at the 2011 census was 143. The parish church, dedicated to St. Cornelius, dates from the late 12th century and is a Grade I listed building.Linwood is part of a major woodland conservation area, centred on Linwood Warren 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the north-east, and is a primary target area to promote and encourage the repopulation of the Woodlark (Lullula arborea), a native bird that has become almost extinct locally. In 2005 the population had been raised to approximately 50 breeding pairs and 60 other male birds, after more than 15 years of work monitored by the Lincolnshire Bird Club. Linwood is the birthplace of William Lyndwood.

According to the British Geological Survey the earthquake registered a reading of 5.2 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre 2.5 miles (4 km) north of Market Rasen and 15 miles (24 km) south-west of Grimsby.

Willingham House was a country house in North Willingham (near Market Rasen), Lincolnshire, England. It was built around 1790 for Ayscoghe Boucherett and is attributed to the architect Robert Mitchell (a similar building design can be seen in the engraving Selwood Park (Silwood Park), in the County of Berkshire, the Seat of James Sibbald Esqr - designed 1788). The Boucherett family were regularly painted by Sir Thomas Lawrence, P.R.A. (1769-1830) who is believed to have visited the house to undertake a series of sketches of the children over a period of around five years.Unusual for a very large house of this period, Willingham House could be viewed easily from the main road, from Market Rasen to Louth. The small lake in front of the house still remains, although now obscured by mature trees from the main road.

It is situated approximately 13 miles (20 km) north-east from the city and county town of Lincoln and 3 miles (5 km) south-east from the town of Market Rasen. The parish includes the settlements of Bleasby, Bleasby Moor, Collow, and East Torrington.

Lissington is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 154. It lies 4 miles (6 km) south from the town of Market Rasen, and about 4 miles north from the town of Wragby. Lissington is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book as "Lessintone", with 28 households, and 80 acres (0.32 km2) of meadow and 80 of woodland. The church, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, is a Grade II listed building built from ironstone and greenstone. It dates from 1796, with a restoration in 1895 and further additions in 1925.Lissington Church of England School was built in 1854 as a National school and closed 21 December 1950.

Buslingthorpe is a hamlet and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is half a mile east of the A46 at Faldingworth and 3 miles (5 km) south-west from Market Rasen. The hamlet is approximately 3 square miles (7.8 km2) in area and comprises a moat, one farm, St Michael's Church (now disused but open to the public) and approximately 20 houses. A large manor house was constructed in approximately 2010 on the land of two demolished houses.A writer in Notes and Queries in 1932 noted that the Buslingthorpe (shared with Buslingthorpe, Leeds and Buckfastleigh, Devon) contains 13 different letters, exactly half the alphabet, with none repeated and no hyphenation: a heterogram, and wondered whether that was unique. In 2007 David Crystal noted that Bricklehampton surpasses this with 14 unique letters.
