Market Rasen ( RAY-zən) is a market town and civil parish within the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The River Rase runs through it east to west, approximately 13 miles (21 km) north-east from Lincoln, 18 miles (29 km) east from Gainsborough, 14 miles (23 km) west of Louth, and 16 miles (26 km) south-west from Grimsby. It lies on the main road between Lincoln and Grimsby, the A46, and is famous for its racecourse. In 2001, the town had a population of 3,200. In the 2011 census, the population of the civil parish was 3,904.

According to the British Geological Survey the earthquake registered a reading of 5.2 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre 2.5 miles (4 km) north of Market Rasen and 15 miles (24 km) south-west of Grimsby.

The parish church, dedicated to St. Cornelius, dates from the late 12th century and is a Grade I listed building.Linwood is part of a major woodland conservation area, centred on Linwood Warren 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the north-east, and is a primary target area to promote and encourage the repopulation of the Woodlark (Lullula arborea), a native bird that has become almost extinct locally. In 2005 the population had been raised to approximately 50 breeding pairs and 60 other male birds, after more than 15 years of work monitored by the Lincolnshire Bird Club. Linwood is the birthplace of William Lyndwood.

It is owned and operated by Jockey Club Racecourses.Racing initially began at Market Rasen in the early 1800s, however found its current home in 1924, its first race meeting coming in April of that year. The course is a right-handed oval with a circumference of around one-and-a-quarter miles. Although National Hunt racing is traditionally a winter sport, Market Rasen stages a year-round programme of racing.Its most high-profile fixture is the Summer Plate meeting, normally staged on the third Saturday in July. This features the two-and-a-quarter miles Summer Hurdle and the eponymous Summer Plate, a two-and-three-quarter miles chase, both of which are among the most valuable National Hunt races staged in Britain during the summer months.Former jockey AP McCoy is the leading jockey by statistics, winning 27% of races he entered at Market Rasen. In 2014, he rode his 4,192nd winner beating friend and former colleague Martin Pipe's overall wins record.

Buslingthorpe is a hamlet and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is half a mile east of the A46 at Faldingworth and 3 miles (5 km) south-west from Market Rasen. The hamlet is approximately 3 square miles (7.8 km2) in area and comprises a moat, one farm, St Michael's Church (now disused but open to the public) and approximately 20 houses. A large manor house was constructed in approximately 2010 on the land of two demolished houses.A writer in Notes and Queries in 1932 noted that the Buslingthorpe (shared with Buslingthorpe, Leeds and Buckfastleigh, Devon) contains 13 different letters, exactly half the alphabet, with none repeated and no hyphenation: a heterogram, and wondered whether that was unique. In 2007 David Crystal noted that Bricklehampton surpasses this with 14 unique letters.

Legsby (otherwise Legesby) is a small village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 193. It is situated approximately 13 miles (20 km) north-east from the city and county town of Lincoln and 3 miles (5 km) south-east from the town of Market Rasen. The parish includes the settlements of Bleasby, Bleasby Moor, Collow, and East Torrington.

St Michael's Church is a redundant Anglican church in the hamlet of Buslingthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It stands in an isolated position adjacent to a partly moated farm to the east of the A46 road. The church is notable for two mediaeval monuments to members of the Buslingthorpe family.
