Lublin Castle

The National Museum in Lublin (Polish: Muzeum Narodowe w Lublinie) is one of the oldest and largest museums in Eastern Poland, located in Lublin. It was created in 1914, and received its own building in 1923.

The Maharshal's Synagogue (Polish: Synagoga Maharszala), also known as the Great Lublin Synagogue (Yiddish: מהרשל־שול), was a former Orthodox Jewish congregation and synagogue, that was located on the northern slope of castle hill at the now nonexistent 3 Jateczna Street, in Lublin, in the Lublin Voivodeship of Poland. The synagogue served as a house of prayer until World War II when it was destroyed by Nazis in 1942. It was the largest synagogue in Lublin, and was the oldest known building in Poland with a four-pillar bema. Together with the Maharam's Synagogue and Shive Kryjem Synagogue, it was part of the synagogue complex in the Podzamcze area.

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity (Polish: Kaplica Trójcy Świętej), also known as Lublin Castle Chapel (Kaplica Zamkowa), is a Gothic chapel with a Renaissance gable located within the courtyard of Lublin Castle in Lublin, Poland. The chapel adjoins the museum of the castle complex and is an integral part of the site. It is known for its fifteenth-century frescoes in the Byzantine or Orthodox style, unusual for Catholic Poland.

Cathedral of the Transfiguration is an Orthodox cathedral in Lublin, and the main church of the Diocese of Lublin and Chełm of the Polish Orthodox Church. It also serves as the seat of the Lublin Parish of the Transfiguration (in the Lublin Deanery). The cathedral is located on Ruska Street. The currently existing building was constructed between 1607 and 1633 on the site of two older churches. It was dedicated in 1633 by Metropolitan Petro Mohyla of Kyiv. During construction and for several decades afterwards, the church's ownership was fiercely contested between the Orthodox and the Uniates, who finally took permanent control of the building in 1695. The Lublin parish returned to the Orthodox church in 1875, following the abolition of the Uniate Eparchy of Chełm by the tsarist administration and military. The cathedral is particularly revered for housing copies of the Jerusalem and Lublin icons of the Mother of God. The temple was registered as a historical monument on 21 January 1960 and 21 February 1967 under number A/227.

The Lublin Ghetto was a World War II ghetto created by Nazi Germany in the city of Lublin on the territory of General Government in occupied Poland. The ghetto inmates were mostly Polish Jews, although a number of Roma were also brought in. Set up in March 1941, the Lublin ghetto was one of the first Nazi-era ghettos slated for liquidation during the deadliest phase of the Holocaust in occupied Poland. Between mid-March and mid-April 1942 over 30,000 Jews were delivered to their deaths in cattle trucks at the Bełżec extermination camp and additional 4,000 at Majdanek.

The "Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre" Centre (Polish: Ośrodek "Brama Grodzka — Teatr NN") is a cultural institution based in Lublin. It is housed in the Grodzka Gate also known as the Jewish Gate that historically used to be a passage from the Christian to the Jewish part of the city. In its activities the Center focuses on issues of cultural heritage. The Polish-Jewish past of Lublin is the corner stone of the art and educational programmes carried out by the "Gate".

Lublin County (Polish: Powiat Lubelski) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Lublin Voivodeship, eastern Poland. It was established on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat is the city of Lublin, although the city is not part of the county (it constitutes a separate city county). The only towns in Lublin County are Bełżyce, which lies 23 km (14 mi) west of Lublin, and Bychawa, 26 km (16 mi) south of Lublin. The county covers an area of 1,679.42 square kilometres (648.4 sq mi). As of 2019, its total population is 154,760, out of which the population of Bełżyce is 6,504, that of Bychawa is 4,893, and the rural population is 143,363.

Maharam's Synagogue was a synagogue in Lublin, Poland, which was located on a no-longer-existing Jateczna 3 Street. The synagogue was a part of synagogical complex in Podzamcze.

The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist (Polish: Archikatedra św. Jana Chrzciciela ) or simply Lublin Cathedral in Lublin, Poland is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lublin. It was built between 1592 and 1617 as a church of the Society of Jesus. One of the first baroque churches in Poland, it was modeled after the Chiesa del Gesù in Rome of Giovanni Maria Bernadoni. It is a three-aisled basilica with a wide nave.. It was designated cathedral in the early 19th century, and since 1992, the archdiocesan cathedral.

Lublin is the ninth-largest city in Poland and the second-largest city of historical Lesser Poland. It is the capital and the centre of Lublin Voivodeship with a population of 336,339 (December 2021). Lublin is the largest Polish city east of the Vistula River and is about 170 km (106 mi) to the southeast of Warsaw by road. One of the events that greatly contributed to the city's development was the Polish-Lithuanian Union of Krewo in 1385. Lublin thrived as a centre of trade and commerce due to its strategic location on the route between Vilnius and Kraków; the inhabitants had the privilege of free trade in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The Lublin Parliament session of 1569 led to the creation of a real union between the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, thus creating the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Lublin witnessed the early stages of Reformation in the 16th century. A Calvinist congregation was founded and groups of radical Arians appeared in the city, making it an important global centre of Arianism.Until the partitions at the end of the 18th century, Lublin was a royal city of the Crown Kingdom of Poland. Its delegates and nobles had the right to participate in the royal election. In 1578, Lublin was chosen as the seat of the Crown Tribunal, the highest appeal court in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, and for centuries, the city has been flourishing as a centre of culture and higher learning. In 2011, the analytical Financial Times Group found Lublin to be one of the best cities for business in Poland. The Foreign Direct Investment ranking placed Lublin second among larger Polish cities in the cost-effectiveness category. Lublin is noted for its green spaces and a high standard of living; the city has been selected as the 2023 European Youth Capital. Its historical Old Town is one of Poland's national monuments (Pomnik historii) tracked by the National Heritage Board of Poland.

Sonderaktion Lublin was a repressive operation targeting the intelligentsia of Lublin, conducted by German occupiers in November 1939. The operation began with mass arrests, affecting several hundred members of Lublin's social and intellectual elite. The Germans detained, among others, two bishops and members of the Archdiocese of Lublin's curia, all faculty members of the Catholic University of Lublin present in the city, as well as numerous teachers, lawyers, and officials. Most prisoners were eventually released, but approximately 70 Poles were executed, and several dozen others were deported to concentration camps. The term Sonderaktion Lublin was coined by Polish historians to describe these events.

The House of Words (pol. Dom Słów, formerly known as Chamber of Printing) – museum of typography in Poland, is a multimodal education center. It familiarizes audience with poetry and art, old techniques of printing, and the history and achievements of Lublin printing industry. Located at Żmigród 1 Street in Lublin, inside Pociej's Palace.
