Otter Island (Poole)

The River Sherford, also frequently called the Sherford River, is one of the four main rivers flowing into Poole Harbour in the county of Dorset, England. It is about 12 kilometres long and drains over the tertiary beds near the harbour.

Lytchett Bay is located close to the town of Upton, Dorset, United Kingdom. It is possible to walk from Lytchett Bay to Rockley Park via the shoreline path that borders the Turlin Moor estate. The most interesting part of Lychett Bay can however, only be accessed via the Turlin Moor estate and consists of areas of saltmarsh and tiny beaches. Walking from the beach where boats are moored it takes nearly 40 minutes to walk the shoreline to the far side which has a population of adders. The walk goes through a small wooded area where deer can sometimes be seen and a meadow that is managed with a short spell along a very quiet road. The water can be reached at two separate spots on the far side of Lychett Bay and gives a much better view of the swans and other birds that frequent the bay at different times of the year. Lytchett Bay was a popular children's haunt during the 1980s and 1990s. It was common for boats to wash up on the shore of Lytchett Bay during spells of bad weather. The boats would be hidden away in the reeds, then brought out during the summer months.

Lytchett Minster and Upton, formerly just Lytchett Minster is a civil parish in the Dorset district, in the ceremonial county of Dorset, England. The parish comprises the village of Lytchett Minster and the nearby built up area of Upton, which is contiguous with the urban area of Poole. The parish has an area of 14.35 square kilometres. At the time of the 2001 census, it had a population of 7,573 living in 3,227 dwellings. The parish forms part of the Purbeck local government district of the county of Dorset. It is within the Mid Dorset and North Poole constituency of the House of Commons. Prior to Brexit in 2020, it was in the South West England constituency of the European Parliament. On 19 July 1986 the parish was rename from "Lytchett Minster" to "Lytchett Minster & Upton".

Lytchett Minster is a village in Dorset, England. It lies around 4 miles (6.4 km) north-west of Poole town centre. The village forms part of the civil parish of Lytchett Minster and Upton, Upton now being a suburb of Poole.

Ham Common is a Local Nature Reserve at Hamworthy, near Poole, Dorset. Located on the north west shores of Poole Harbour, it is predominantly a heathland site but includes many other habitats including waste ground, mixed woodland, and a freshwater lake (Hamworthy Lake). Parking for the site can be found at Hamworthy Beach with access to the waterside for kayaking etc, or above the common from Napier Road. Easy walking access from Haven Rockley Holiday Park. On 17 October 2003 Ham Common 'twinned' with Fleet Pond Local Nature Reserve in Hampshire. In 2006 a twinning event, and plaque unveiling, took place at Ham Common.

Ham Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) within Dorset Heathlands Ramsar site, in Dorset, England. It is located near Hamworth and includes a stretch of cliff along the north side of Poole Harbour.

Turlin Moor is a suburb of Poole in Dorset, England, located between Hamworthy and Upton. Turlin Moor is classed as part of the Hamworthy Community and is host to Hamworthy railway station. The two railway bridges at the end of the estate on Blandford Road, form the meeting point between Hamworthy, Turlin Moor and Upton Park. It is on the Hamworthy Spit which is linked to Poole via the Upton Bypass, and the Two Poole Bridges. It has the South Western Main Line on its South Side and Lytchett Bay to the North. Turlin Moor is home to the Poole Borough Football Club and Poole Rugby Club. Turlin Moor Scout Group was an active Scout Group in the Poole Area, until its demise in the 1980s when it was closed and its members absorbed into 1st Hamworthy Scout Group, which is still running today with some of its sections being called 'Hamworthy - Turlin Moor'. Turlin Moor does not have its own Councillor and instead is part of the Hamworthy District in the Borough of Poole Council. It is the most deprived area of the town.

Lytchett Minster School is a comprehensive school, with about 1,400 students aged 11 to 18, and 100 teachers, in Lytchett Minster, just outside Upton, 4 miles (6 km) from Poole, Dorset, England. The school uses a house system to arrange the students. The head of house remains the same person for each pupil for the whole first 5 years of school. In the upper school there is no house system.

Upton is a town in south-east Dorset, England. Upton is to the east of Holton Heath and Upton Heath, and to the north of the Poole suburb of Hamworthy. It is the second largest town in the Purbeck Hills.

Hamworthy Beach is situated between the Marine Camp and Rockley Sands in Poole Bay, Dorset, known to locals but more difficult to find for outsiders. The local community refer to it as "Up Lake". It is a muddy beach with sand and shingle. It has its own jetty, known as Lake Pier, which is quite popular with local fishermen. Evenings promising good sunsets attract a number of photographers to this beauty spot. From the beach can be seen Arne Nature Reserve, Brownsea Island and the Purbeck Hills. Behind the beach is Ham Common. With a car park close to the water side, this is a popular venue for launching kayaks. A toilet block is present.

Royal Marines Base Poole (RM Poole) is a British naval base located in Hamworthy a suburb of Poole, Dorset, England on the Poole Harbour and is the centre for Special Boat Service activities.
