RAAF Base Rathmines is a heritage-listed former RAAF Second World War seaplane base and now used as community venues, sports venues and a visitor attraction at Dorrington Road, Rathmines, City of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia. It was in use as an RAAF base from 1939 to 1961. It is also known as Rathmines Park, former RAAF Seaplane Base, Flying Boat Base, Rathmines Aerodrome and Catalina Base. The property is owned by Australian Christadelphian Bible School, Disability Life Enrichment, Don Geddes Nursing Home and Lake Macquarie City Council. The remains of the former air base was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 25 November 2005.RAAF Base Rathmines was established in 1939 and was the RAAF's main flying boat base during the Second World War and the early 1950s. During the war, aircraft based at Rathmines conducted anti-submarine patrols along the Australian east coast and the base was home to the RAAF's main seaplane training units. In addition, detachments from squadrons based at Rathmines flew numerous offensive mine laying missions into Japanese-held territory (due to Rathmines' distance from the front line, these aircraft staged through bases in Northern Australia when travelling to and from their targets). Rathmines was also the RAAF Maritime Section's main training base.

Toronto railway station is a former railway station located in the Lake Macquarie suburb of Toronto, the terminus of the former Fassifern - Toronto branch line in New South Wales, Australia. The station opened in c. 1891 as a private tourist tramway and was subsequently acquired by the NSW Government Railways in 1910. The station closed on 11 March 1990. The line and station is still largely intact. The station building is an example of heritage re-use, now in use by the Lake Macquarie and District Historical Society.

The club are currently playing in the fourth tier of Australian soccer, the Northern New South Wales NewFM Football League. The Aboriginal people, in this area, the Awabakal, were the first people of this land.Rathmines was first settled by Europeans at around 1840. It was named after the town of Rathmines in Ireland. Orchards, vineyards and cattle were the early industries. The first school opened in 1941. A RAAF base operated in Rathmines from 1939 to 1963. The artist Sir William Dobell was at one time responsible for the camouflage of the base. Rathmines is home to many sporting teams, most notably Westlakes Wildcats FC who play out of Rathmines Oval. Rathmines is home to Lake Macquarie's first disc golf course, located in park lands at Styles Point.

Carey Bay is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia, and is located on a peninsula southeast of the town of Toronto on the western side of Lake Macquarie. The spelling "Cary Bay" was gazetted on 31 August 1973, but was gazetted and signed "Carey Bay" on 31 May 1991 when the boundaries were determined. In 2001, the Lake Macquarie City Council voted to use the latter name for the suburb. Carey Bay was named after William Cary of the Excelsior Land Investment and Building Company and Bank Limited. Excelsior Land was an early property developer of the Toronto district in Lake Macquarie releasing subdivisions from 1887. William Cary was a director of the company for twelve years from 1880. Originally named "Cary Bay" and describing only a geographical feature of the coastline of Lake Macquarie, the growth of the area lead to the creation of the suburb of the same name with a change of spelling to "Carey Bay", gazetted as such in 1991. Dewey Point is located at the north-eastern corner of Carey Bay and forms the boundary between the Suburbs of Carey Bay and Toronto

Toronto High School is a government-funded co-educational comprehensive secondary day school, located in Toronto, a suburb in the City of Lake Macquarie, in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia.Established in 1962, the school enrolled 950 students in 2018, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom 15 percent identified as Indigenous Australians and four percent were from a language background other than English. The school is operated by the NSW Department of Education; the principal is Mark McConville.

The track and platform at the station is still largely intact, albeit overgrown. it only has one platform. Since its closure, the station and its branch line have been converted into a rail-trail.
