Heywood House

Heywood is a civil parish and small village in the county of Wiltshire in southwestern England. The village is approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of Westbury and 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south of the county town of Trowbridge. Heywood village, which has approximately 200 inhabitants, lies between the A350 national route and the B3461 road, which links nearby Yarnbrook and the Westbury industrial area. The hamlet of Dursley lies directly to the west of the village on the other side of the railway line. The parish also includes the hamlets of Hawkeridge and Norleaze; in the south are the West Wilts Trading Estate and part of The Ham, close to Westbury. The Biss Brook forms the west and north-west boundary of the parish.

Picket and Clanger Wood (grid reference ST875543) is a 66.4 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Wiltshire, England, and lies off the A350 national route between the villages of Yarnbrook and Heywood. It was notified in 1989.

The parish includes the hamlets of Dunge (grid reference ST 892 544), East Town (ST 893 557) and Rood Ashton (ST 886 560).West Ashton was anciently a tithing – alongside Great Hinton and Semington – of the large Steeple Ashton parish, within the hundred of Whorwellsdown. These tithings became separate civil parishes in the late 19th century.The village has a primary school, West Ashton Church of England Primary School, and a village hall.

Westbury was a parliamentary constituency in Wiltshire from 1449 to 2010. It was represented in the House of Commons of England until 1707, and then in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800, and finally in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 until 2010. Until 1885, it was a parliamentary borough, returning two Members of Parliament (MPs) until 1832 and only one from 1832 to 1885. The parliamentary borough was abolished in 1885, when the name was transferred to a county constituency returning one MP. Elections used the bloc vote system when two MPs were returned, and the first-past-the-post system of election when one seat was contested. Westbury returned a Conservative Member at every election after 1924.
