Troutbeck railway station

Troutbeck is a hamlet within Cumbria, England, a few miles to the west of Penrith. It was previously in the county of Cumberland. It lies within the Lake District, the civil parish of Hutton, and the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness. Great Mell Fell is situated immediately to the east of Troutbeck. It is open-access land which belongs to the National Trust. There are five Roman temporary or marching camps just to the north of Troutbeck, adjoining the A66 Roman road. The place-name 'Troutbeck' is first attested in the Subsidy Rolls of 1332, where it appears as Troutbek. The name means 'trout stream'. The stream the Trout Beck heads towards it and then veers west where it joins the River Glenderamackin less than half a mile to the west of Hutton Moor End.

Great Mell Fell (Bare hill, with the later additions of both "Fell" and "Great") is an isolated hill or fell in the English Lake District, north of Ullswater and adjacent to the Eastern Fells. It rises from a level plain to a height of 537 m. Its top is a viewpoint for many of the surrounding higher fells. The fell is now owned and managed by the National Trust and offers a place of quiet refuge. The fell was once well wooded, and retains a good covering of trees on the lower slopes, as well as scattered larches and pines higher up. Its rock is unusual for the Lake District, a reddish conglomerate of Devonian age, which has been eroded to form a rounded hill with smooth outlines and no rocky crags.

Berrier is a hamlet in Cumbria, England. It is in the civil parish of Mungrisdale, which is made up of eight hamlets and had a population of 297 in the 2011 United Kingdom census. The civil parish of Berrier and Murrah existed from 1866 to 1934, Murrah being a nearby hamlet.

Hutton Moor End is a hamlet on the Hutton Moor Road in the north east of the Lake District in Cumbria, England. It lies within the civil parish of Mungrisdale and is known locally as 'Moor End' as it is at the end of the Hutton Moor on an old route-way between Penrith to Keswick.

Beckces is a hamlet approximately 800 yards (750 metres) west of Penruddock railway station on the former Cockermouth, Keswick & Penrith Railway within the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, England. The railway formed the northern boundary of the hamlet but its embankment to the east has been removed and the cutting to the west infilled. Beckces (the local spelling is now Beckses) is 7 miles west of Penrith and a little over 11 miles from Keswick and is served by the B5288 Greystoke road, which branches off the A66 trunk road between those towns. The hamlet includes a caravan park and holiday cottages for hire.

Ulcat Row (also Ulcatrow) is a village in the civil parish of Matterdale, in the Westmorland and Furness district, in the county of Cumbria, England. In the 2011 census, the parish had 483 residents, roughly an 8% decrease from 526 residents in 2001. Ulcat Row is located approximately eight miles south west of Penrith. The name originally meant "Owl Cottage Corner".

Dockray (traditionally Dockwray) is a village in the civil parish of Matterdale, in the Westmorland and Furness district of Cumbria, England. In the 2011 census, the parish had 483 residents, roughly an 8% decrease from 526 residents in 2001. Dockray lies approximately eight miles south west of Penrith, and is accessible from the A5091 road. The village is popular among walkers, mostly to Aira Force, and various fells surrounding the village, most notably Gowbarrow Fell; Alfred Wainwright describes the ascent of Gowbarrow Fell from Dockray, but considers that other ascents are more attractive. The village has no amenities, aside from the Royal Hotel, the local inn and restaurant. In the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870, Dockwray was described as "a hamlet on the Aira rivulet, adjacent to Matterdale, in Cumberland. It commands a fine view over Ulles-water."

Trout Beck is a 7.6 miles (12.3 km) long stream or beck in the English Lake District, Cumbria. It rises on the northwestern slopes of Great Dodd, with tributaries including Groove Beck and Thornsgill Beck, and flows east then north to the hamlet of Troutbeck. It then flows west, parallel to and south of the A66 road, going just south of Hutton Moor End then under the old Hutton Moor Road at Wolt Bridge where it joins the River Glenderamackin. To the west of Troutbeck hamlet the beck is bridged by the former Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway.

Mungrisdale is a small village and civil parish in the north east of the English Lake District in the historic county of Cumberland but now in the ceremonial county of Cumbria. It is also the name of the valley in which the village sits. Mungrisdale is a popular starting point for ascents of the nearby hills, such as Bowscale Fell, Bannerdale Crags and Souther Fell. It lies on the River Glenderamackin, a tributary of the Greta. Mungrisdale has no local amenities except for the Grade II* listed St Kentigern's Church built in 1756, a village hall and a pub, the Mill Inn. The civil parish of Mungrisdale is made up of the hamlets of Berrier, Bowscale, Haltcliff Bridge, Heggle Lane, Hutton Roof, Mosedale, Mungrisdale and Murrah. The parish had a population of 284 in 2001, increasing to 297 at the 2011 Census. Part of the parish lies within the Skiddaw Group SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).

Mosedale Beck is a river in Cumbria, England, which rises on the northern slopes of Great Dodd and flows north east, to the south of Clough Head before joining the River Glenderamackin to the east of Threlkeld village. This then flows west, alongside the A66 road south of Blencathra, to form the River Greta which flows into the River Derwent. Shortly before joining the Glendaramackin, Mosedale Beck is crossed by the Mosedale Viaduct of the former Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway, now a footpath.

Gowbarrow Fell (Windy hill) is a low fell in the English Lake District. It is an outlier of the Eastern Fells, standing to the north of Ullswater, bounded on one side by Aira Beck with its waterfall Aira Force. The waterfall is a popular attraction for visitors to the area. In previous centuries the fell was part of a medieval hunting-park, Gowbarrow Park, which belonged to the lords of Greystoke. The fell, along with 750 acres of the park, were bought by the National Trust in 1906.
