Mill Spring is an unincorporated community in Polk County, North Carolina, United States. Mill Spring is located at the junction of North Carolina Highway 9 and North Carolina Highway 108 3.7 miles (6.0 km) northeast of Columbus, North Carolina. Mill Spring has a post office with ZIP code 28756. Mill Spring is named after Colonel Ambrose Mills. He founded a saw mill and post office in the community. Mill Spring was the hometown of Bryant H. Womack, recipient of the Medal of Honor for actions during the Korean War. The Rev. Joshua D. Jones House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The Tryon International Equestrian Center, in Mill Spring, was the location of the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games.

Rev. Joshua D. Jones House is a historic home located at Mill Spring, Polk County, North Carolina. It was built in 1897, and is a two-story, three-bay, frame I-house with a two-story rear ell. A kitchen addition was built in 1925. It features a shed-roofed porch covering three-fourths of the lower facade. Also on the property is the contributing one-room, frame store building and well. It was the home of African-American community leader Rev. Joshua D. Jones of the Stony Knoll community. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Fox Haven Plantation is a historic plantation house located in Green Hill Township near Rutherfordton, Rutherford County, North Carolina. It was built in 1823, and is a two-story, five bay by three bay, brick dwelling with Federal style design elements. It sits on a low brick foundation and has two interior chimneys on the rear facade and one on the front facade. The building had three entrances when originally built, but at a later date, one of the entrances was redone to be a window. The attic of the house is unfinished.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.During the time in which it was nominated to be added to the National Register of Historic Places, Ben Summers and his wife owned the property.

Rough Butt Creek is a stream in Jackson County, North Carolina, in the United States. It is located within the Nantahala National Forest. A hiking trail along Rough Butt Creek leads to a 35-foot (11 m) waterfall.

J. G. Hughes House, also known as Fieldstone, is a historic home located at Columbus, Polk County, North Carolina. It was built in 1896, and is a two-story, four-bay, Queen Anne style frame dwelling. It has a cross gable roof, is sheathed in weatherboard, and rests on a stone foundation. It features a wrapround porch with sawn brackets and a cutaway bay window. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Polk County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located in Columbus, Polk County, North Carolina. It was built in 1859 and is a two-story, T-shaped, Greek Revival-style brick building. The front facade features an engaged, three-bay portico with a plain pediment supported by four square pillars. Atop the roof is a three-stage cupola. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Shunkawauken Falls is a 150 ft (46 m) waterfall located in Polk County, near Columbus, North Carolina. The falls are fed by a pond a few metres upstream. It is a local attraction, although it is located on private property. According to local lore, a Native American chief named Shunkawauken lived in this area in the 1800s. The falls, previously named Horse Creek Falls, were renamed in his memory in 1891.

Green River Plantation is a historic plantation house on over 360 acres located near Columbus, Polk County, North Carolina. The oldest section of the "Big House" was built between the years 1804–1807, and is a two-story, four-bay, Late Federal style frame dwelling. A later two-story, four-bay, brick Greek Revival style dwelling was built beside the original structure in the mid-19th century. The two sections were joined in the late 19th century by a two-story section and grand staircase to form a structure that is over 10,000 square feet in size and boasts over 42 rooms and spaces. The plantation house was built by Joseph McDowell Carson, son of Col. John Carson, who built Carson House at Marion, North Carolina. The later-built section of the home was the residence of Samuel Price Carson, North Carolina State Senator and U.S. Federal Representative, and younger brother of Joseph McDowell Carson. Green River Plantation was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The plantation house and surrounding grounds are a private residence but are open for historic tours with reservation. The grounds and facilities can also be reserved for events such as weddings, receptions, luncheons, concerts, corporate events, and reunions.
