Haxby railway station

Haxby Hall was an estate in York Road, village of Haxby, York, England. It was built in 1790 on 22 acres (89,000 m2) of land, and was grade II listed.In 1923, Haxby Hall was the residence of Mr. William Abel Wood, J.P. During the Second World War, the hall was used to billet evacuees from Hull.In 1950, the owner of the estate, Kenneth Ward, donated the pleasure grounds around the building to the village (which is now part of the City of York), to build the Ethel Ward Memorial Playing Field. The playing field now contains a children's playground, ball playing courts, a scout centre, and more. It is also the location of the village fairs and celebrations, and the home of the Haxby football teams, who play in the York and District League.Haxby Hall itself, now with only 3 acres (12,000 m2) of land, was demolished in 1960, and in 1965 it was replaced by the Haxby Hall Residential Home for the elderly (with accommodations for 52 elderly people), and an adjoining ambulance station.

According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 8,754, reducing to 8,428 at the 2011 Census.Open farmland is to the north as far as the villages of Sutton-on-the-Forest and Strensall. The River Foss and Earswick is to the east. It is outside of the York Outer Ring Road (A1237) and near the New Earswick and Huntington areas of York, to the south. It shares a continuous built-up area with the village and parish of Wigginton to the west. Its name is of Old Norse origin with the personal name of Hákr's settlement, in Old Norse bý. It was recorded as Haxebi in the Domesday Book of 1086. Haxby Town Centre, known as "The Village", has been a Conservation Area since 1976. The town's charter was granted in 1992. The Yorkshire village of Haxby was administered by the North Riding County Council and Flaxton Rural District Council until 1974. From 1974 to 1996, Haxby became part of North Yorkshire County Council and Ryedale District Council. Since 1996 the town of Haxby has been part of the City of York, a unitary authority.

According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 819, increasing to 876 at the 2011 Census.The village was historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It was then a part of the district of Ryedale in North Yorkshire from 1974 until 1996. Since 1996 it has been part of the City of York unitary authority.

All Saints' Church lies in Huntington, now a suburb of York, in England. An earlier All Saints' Church was built on the site in the 12th century. It was largely replaced by a new church in the 15th century, but one pier survives in an arcade by the organ, and the south door and its archway also remain, re-set in a new location. Of the 15th-century church, much of the chancel survives, with its east window, piscina and sedilia.The nave, tower and organ chambers of the church were rebuilt in 1874 by C. T. Newstead, in the Geometric Decorated style. The bells were recast in the 1880s. Inside, the communion table is Jacobean, and there are two coffin lids, believed to be 13th-century.The organ was built by Forster and Andrews in 1896 and was restored in 2001. Towthorpe is a hamlet in Strensall with Towthorpe civil parish in the unitary authority of the City of York in North Yorkshire, England. It lies between Huntington and Strensall about 5 miles (8 km) north of York. According to the 2001 census, the parish had a population of 1,967. The data for the 2011 census is included in the civil parish of Strensall with Towthorpe, which had a population of 6,047.The hamlet was historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It was then a part of the district of Ryedale in North Yorkshire from 1974 until 1996. Since 1996 it has been part of the City of York unitary authority. Towthorpe was formerly a township in the parish of Huntingdon, in 1866 Towthorpe became a separate civil parish, on 1 April 2009 the parish was abolished and merged with Strensall to form "Strensall with Towthorpe".Part of the Strensall training area and adjacent Queen Elizabeth Barracks are located to the north east of the hamlet. The training area was formerly Strensall and Towthorpe Common.
