Burton Agnes railway station

Burton Agnes (named after Agnes de Percy) is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated on the A614 road midway between Driffield and Bridlington. Local landmarks include an Elizabethan manor house, Burton Agnes Hall, and a Norman manor house, Burton Agnes Manor House. Both buildings are recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England as Grade I listed. The church, dedicated to St Martin, was designated as Grade I listed in 1966.The civil parish is formed by the village of Burton Agnes and the hamlets of Gransmoor and Thornholme. According to the 2011 UK Census, Burton Agnes parish had a population of 497, an increase of one over the 2001 UK Census figure.From the mediaeval era until the 19th century Burton Agnes was part of Dickering Wapentake. Between 1894 and 1974 Burton Agnes was a part of the Bridlington Rural District, in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Between 1974 and 1996 it was part of the Borough of North Wolds (later Borough of East Yorkshire, in the county of Humberside. Burton Agnes holds an annual Scarecrow Festival during which the village is decorated with scarecrows. The festival began in 2004 and was devised by a group of children to raise money.Burton Agnes primary school is on Rudston Road, also on which are playing fields, close to the cemetery. The playing fields are the base for football and cricket teams. There is a small bowls field near the football pitch. Bridlington Archery Club also uses the facility. Burton Agnes railway station on the Yorkshire Coast Line from Hull to Scarborough served the village until it closed on 5 January 1970.On 17 September 1947 a truck carrying German prisoners of war was in collision with a train at the Burton Agnes level crossing killing two British and ten German soldiers. On 23 December 2013 a plaque was unveiled at the site of the crash in remembrance those who died.

Burton Agnes Manor House is an English Heritage property, located in the village of Burton Agnes, East Riding of Yorkshire, England only a few yards away from the newer Burton Agnes Hall. It is a surviving example of a Norman manor house with a well-preserved Norman undercroft, and was encased in 18th-century brickwork. It is now a Grade I listed building.It is open to the public from 11 am to 5 pm from April to October.

Burton Agnes Hall is an Elizabethan manor house in the village of Burton Agnes, near Driffield in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was built by Sir Henry Griffith in 1601–10 to designs attributed to Robert Smythson. The older Norman Burton Agnes Manor House, originally built in 1173, still stands on an adjacent site; both buildings are now Grade I listed buildings.

Thornholme is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 5 miles (8 km) south-west of the town of Bridlington and 1 mile (1.6 km) north-east of the village of Burton Agnes. It lies on the A614 road. It forms part of the civil parish of Burton Agnes.

It is located just south of the A614 road, approximately 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Driffield and 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Bridlington.The civil parish is formed by the village of Harpham and the hamlets of Lowthorpe and Ruston Parva. According to the 2011 UK census, Harpham parish had a population of 303, a decline on the 2001 UK census figure of 318.

Kelk is a civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated 7 miles (11 km) to the south-west of Bridlington town centre and covering an area of 768.523 hectares (1,899.06 acres). The civil parish is formed by the village of Great Kelk and the hamlet of Little Kelk. According to the 2011 UK census, Kelk parish had a population of 158, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 180.

Lowthorpe railway station was a minor railway station serving the village of Lowthorpe on the Yorkshire Coast Line from Scarborough to Hull and was opened on 6 October 1846 by the York and North Midland Railway. It closed on 5 January 1970.

Gransmoor is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 6 miles (10 km) south-west of the town of Bridlington and 3 miles (5 km) south-east of the village of Burton Agnes. Gransmoor forms part of the civil parish of Burton Agnes. In 1823 Gransmoor was in the parish of Burton Agnes and the Wapentake of Dickering. Population was 85, which included six farmers and a carrier who operated between the hamlet and Bridlington once weekly. By 1840 population was 93, again with six farmers. A chapel was built in 1839 by the owner of all 1,100 acres (4.5 km2) of hamlet land.

Haisthorpe is a village in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 4 miles (6 km) south-west of Bridlington town centre. It lies on the A614. The village forms part of the civil parish of Carnaby. In the village, to the north of the A614, is Grade II listed late 18th-century Haisthorpe Hall.In 1823 Haisthorpe (then Haysthorp), was in the civil parish of Burton Agnes and the Wapentake of Dickering. Population at the time was 109, with occupations that included four farmers, a shoemaker, and a butcher.

Woldgate is a minor road in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, which follows the line of a Roman road. It runs for a distance of 10 miles (16 km) from a junction with the A165 on the western edge of Bridlington, through the village of Kilham, to a junction with the B1249 4 miles (6 km) north of Driffield. For most of its length Woldgate follows a low ridge of the Yorkshire Wolds, with extensive views to north and south. The Roman road ran from the coast at Bridlington to York. Its line can be traced west from the western end of Woldgate along a series of bridleways and minor roads, and then a stretch of the A166, to Stamford Bridge, where it crossed the River Derwent by a ford.Woldgate was the subject of a series of landscapes created in 2006 by the artist David Hockney.National Cycle Route 1 follows the eastern part of Woldgate.

Great Kelk is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Kelk, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 7.5 miles (12.1 km) south-west of Bridlington. In 1931 the parish had a population of 117. In 1823 Great Kelk inhabitants numbered 158. Occupations included eight farmers, a gardener, a shoemaker, and the landlord of the Board public house. Great Kelk was formerly a township in the parish of Foston-on-the-Wolds, from 1866 Great Kelk was a civil parish in its own right, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Little Kelk to form "Kelk".
