Little Kelk

Kelk is a civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated 7 miles (11 km) to the south-west of Bridlington town centre and covering an area of 768.523 hectares (1,899.06 acres). The civil parish is formed by the village of Great Kelk and the hamlet of Little Kelk. According to the 2011 UK census, Kelk parish had a population of 158, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 180.

Lowthorpe railway station was a minor railway station serving the village of Lowthorpe on the Yorkshire Coast Line from Scarborough to Hull and was opened on 6 October 1846 by the York and North Midland Railway. It closed on 5 January 1970.

Harpham is a small village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is located just south of the A614 road, approximately 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Driffield and 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Bridlington.The civil parish is formed by the village of Harpham and the hamlets of Lowthorpe and Ruston Parva. According to the 2011 UK census, Harpham parish had a population of 303, a decline on the 2001 UK census figure of 318.

Great Kelk is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Kelk, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 7.5 miles (12.1 km) south-west of Bridlington. In 1931 the parish had a population of 117. In 1823 Great Kelk inhabitants numbered 158. Occupations included eight farmers, a gardener, a shoemaker, and the landlord of the Board public house. Great Kelk was formerly a township in the parish of Foston-on-the-Wolds, from 1866 Great Kelk was a civil parish in its own right, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Little Kelk to form "Kelk".

Burton Agnes railway station was a minor railway station serving the village of Burton Agnes on the Yorkshire Coast Line from Scarborough to Hull and was opened on 6 October 1846 by the York and North Midland Railway. It was closed to passengers on 5 January 1970, although the disused platforms, derelict signal box and station buildings all remain, the latter still used as a private house.

Lowthorpe is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Harpham, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 3 miles (5 km) north-east of Driffield town centre and 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Bridlington town centre. In 1931 the parish had a population of 159. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Harpham. It lies south-east of the A614 road and just north-west of the Yorkshire Coast railway line from Hull to Scarborough. Lowthorpe railway station served the village until it closed on 5 January 1970. The church dedicated to St Martin was designated a Grade II* listed building in 1966 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England. In 1823 Lowthorpe (then spelt 'Lowthorp'), was in the Wapentake of Dickering. The church and perpetual curacy was under the patronage of the St Quintin family. Population at the time was 149, with occupations including nine farmers, a linen manufacturer, a corn miller, and a rope maker. Residents included William Thomas St Quintin Esquire, of Lowthorp Hall, and a gentleman.

Burton Agnes (named after Agnes de Percy) is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated on the A614 road midway between Driffield and Bridlington. Local landmarks include an Elizabethan manor house, Burton Agnes Hall, and a Norman manor house, Burton Agnes Manor House. Both buildings are recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England as Grade I listed. The church, dedicated to St Martin, was designated as Grade I listed in 1966.The civil parish is formed by the village of Burton Agnes and the hamlets of Gransmoor and Thornholme. According to the 2011 UK Census, Burton Agnes parish had a population of 497, an increase of one over the 2001 UK Census figure.From the mediaeval era until the 19th century Burton Agnes was part of Dickering Wapentake. Between 1894 and 1974 Burton Agnes was a part of the Bridlington Rural District, in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Between 1974 and 1996 it was part of the Borough of North Wolds (later Borough of East Yorkshire, in the county of Humberside. Burton Agnes holds an annual Scarecrow Festival during which the village is decorated with scarecrows. The festival began in 2004 and was devised by a group of children to raise money.Burton Agnes primary school is on Rudston Road, also on which are playing fields, close to the cemetery. The playing fields are the base for football and cricket teams. There is a small bowls field near the football pitch. Bridlington Archery Club also uses the facility. Burton Agnes railway station on the Yorkshire Coast Line from Hull to Scarborough served the village until it closed on 5 January 1970.On 17 September 1947 a truck carrying German prisoners of war was in collision with a train at the Burton Agnes level crossing killing two British and ten German soldiers. On 23 December 2013 a plaque was unveiled at the site of the crash in remembrance those who died.

Burton Agnes Manor House is an English Heritage property, located in the village of Burton Agnes, East Riding of Yorkshire, England only a few yards away from the newer Burton Agnes Hall. It is a surviving example of a Norman manor house with a well-preserved Norman undercroft, and was encased in 18th-century brickwork. It is now a Grade I listed building.It is open to the public from 11 am to 5 pm from April to October.

Burton Agnes Hall is an Elizabethan manor house in the village of Burton Agnes, near Driffield in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was built by Sir Henry Griffith in 1601–10 to designs attributed to Robert Smythson. The older Norman Burton Agnes Manor House, originally built in 1173, still stands on an adjacent site; both buildings are now Grade I listed buildings.

Gembling is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Foston, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) south-west from the coastal resort of Bridlington and 2.5 miles (4 km) north from the village of North Frodingham. In 1931 the parish had a population of 80.

Gransmoor is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 6 miles (10 km) south-west of the town of Bridlington and 3 miles (5 km) south-east of the village of Burton Agnes. Gransmoor forms part of the civil parish of Burton Agnes. In 1823 Gransmoor was in the parish of Burton Agnes and the Wapentake of Dickering. Population was 85, which included six farmers and a carrier who operated between the hamlet and Bridlington once weekly. By 1840 population was 93, again with six farmers. A chapel was built in 1839 by the owner of all 1,100 acres (4.5 km2) of hamlet land.

Foston on the Wolds is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) south-west of Bridlington town centre and 2 miles (3 km) north of the village of North Frodingham. The civil parish is formed by the villages of Foston on the Wolds and Brigham and the hamlet of Gembling. According to the 2011 UK census, Foston parish had a population of 263, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 253. In 1823 Foston inhabitants numbered 300. Occupations included ten farmers, two wheelwrights, two blacksmiths, two grocers who were also drapers, a coal dealer, a corn miller who was also a coal dealer, a boot & shoemaker, a butcher, a tailor, a tanner, and the landlady of the Cross Keys public house. Carriers operated between the village and Hull on Mondays and Thursdays, Driffield and Gembling on Thursdays, and Bridlington on Saturdays. In the village was a Methodist and a Calvinist chapel. The church at the time was dedicated to All Saints.
