West Library (Islington)

Thornhill Square together with the adjacent Thornhill Crescent form a garden square in the Barnsbury district of Islington, North London. It is bounded by Victorian terraced houses, all of which are listed buildings. The central public gardens contain flower beds, mature trees, and a children's play area, and the Crescent gardens surround the Victorian Church of St Andrew.

Barnsbury Wood is a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation, Grade I, in Barnsbury in the London Borough of Islington. With an area of only 0.35 hectares, it is the smallest Local Nature Reserve in London It is owned and managed by Islington Council.In the nineteenth century the site was the garden of the vicarage of St Andrew's Church in Huntingdon Street. In the early twentieth century the garden was abandoned and became woodland. Islington Council purchased it in 1974, proposing to develop it, but in the 1990s it was decided to leave it as woodland and it was declared a Local Nature Reserve. Trees include sycamore, ash, lime and horse chestnut. Birds include the long tailed tit, and there are invertebrates such as the lesser stag beetle and the sixteen spot ladybird.Barnsbury Wood was used as a location in the Agatha Christie’s Poirot TV episode The Clocks (2011).There is access to the wood from Crescent Street. It is open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays throughout the year and, with the aid of volunteers, Saturdays in the summer.

The Bemerton Estate is a social housing estate to the north of Bingfield Street and west of Caledonian Road, in the London Borough of Islington. It was built in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and named after Bemerton Street, the northern part of which it replaced.The estate has suffered from crime and anti-social behaviour and was considered for demolition but the plans were rejected as uneconomic in 2011. In 2015, a tenant's management organisation on the estate was wound up after its chairman was jailed for sex offences. The estate has become synonymous with the gap between the rich and poor in Islington.

Caledonian Road & Barnsbury railway station in the London Borough of Islington in North London is on the North London line and is in Travelcard Zone 2. The station and all trains serving it are operated by London Overground. The station opened in 1870 as "Barnsbury" replacing the 1852 Caledonian Road station which was slightly west of the present site. Barnsbury was renamed "Caledonian Road & Barnsbury" in 1893.The station entrance on Offord Street leads to the old westbound platform (until February 2010) from which a footbridge gives access to the brand new island platforms, curiously numbered 2 and 3, probably to distinguish from the old platform 1. There is a footpath, with Oyster readers, from Caledonian Road to the entrance.

Barnsbury is an area of north London in the London Borough of Islington, within the N1 and N7 postal districts. The name is a syncopated form of Bernersbury (1274), being so called after the Berners family: powerful medieval manorial lords who gained ownership of a large part of Islington after the Norman Conquest. The area of Barnsbury was predominantly rural until the early nineteenth century. By the end of the 18th century, however, Barnsbury, like other parts of Islington, was being regarded as attractive part-rural suburbs by the comparatively wealthy people wanting to move out of the cramped City of London and industrial Clerkenwell. The area is close to the city, and had strong local trade in its position as the first staging post for travellers making the journey from London to the north, and with considerable agricultural traffic and cattle driving to the nearby Smithfield cattle market in the city. Barnard Park, consisting of 10 acres including a large area of football pitches, was created in 1967 on an area of housing that had been bombed during World War Two and named after former Islington Mayor Cllr George Barnard.Pentonville Prison (built 1842) is located within Barnsbury. Since 2006, Barnsbury ward has been represented by three Labour councillors.

Bemerton Street is a street in Barnsbury, King's Cross, in the London Borough of Islington. It runs from Bingfield Street in the north to Copenhagen Street in the south. It is joined on its eastern side by Twyford Street and on the western side by Clayton Crescent.

HM Prison Pentonville (informally "The Ville") is an English Category B men's prison, operated by Her Majesty's Prison Service. Pentonville Prison is not in Pentonville, but is located further north, on the Caledonian Road in the Barnsbury area of the London Borough of Islington, north London. In 2015 the justice secretary, Michael Gove, described Pentonville as "the most dramatic example of failure" within the prisons estate.

The Keskidee Centre, or Keskidee Arts Centre, was Britain's first arts centre for the black community, founded in 1971. Located at Gifford Street in Islington, near King's Cross in London, it was a project initiated by Guyanese architect and cultural activist Oscar Abrams (1937–1996) to provide under one roof self-help and cultural activities for the local West Indian community. Its purpose-built facilities included a library, gallery, studios, theatre and restaurant. The Keskidee became a hub for African and Afro-Caribbean politics and arts, and for years was the only place in London that produced black theatre, developing its own vibrant drama company and attracting both a black and white audience.

The Lewis Carroll Children's Library is a public library in the London Borough of Islington, England. The library opened in 1952 as one of the first dedicated children's libraries in London. It reopened from renovations in 2008, and remains the most popular library in Islington for school visits.

Bingfield Park is a small park area located in the Caledonian Ward and parish of St. Michaels area of the London Borough of Islington. The Park has existed since about 1970 when the Beaconsfield Buildings (built by the Victoria Dwellings Association — Patron Benjamin Disraeli, British prime minister, the Earl of Beaconsfield.) were purchased by the Greater London Council and demolished. These Buildings were preceded by small holdings and cottages and known as Strouds Vale and bordered on to the areas known as Sutton Gardens, Belle Isle and Copenhagen fields. Also demolished was The Clarance Terrace, a red bricked six storey high terrace of apartments fronting on to Rufford Street (formerly Almina Road). At the western and northern perimeters, the Park joins Rufford Street; at the south perimeter it meets Bingfield Street. It is close to the disused York Road Underground station and York Way. The Park has an all-weather sports pitch and an adventure playground for children at its eastern end. The Park is a popular recreational area for people living in the locality.

The Caledonian Estate is a Grade II listed, early Edwardian estate towards the northern end of the Caledonian Road in Islington, London. It is situated next to Pentonville Prison. The Estate was built on the site of the classical Caledonian Asylum from which the Road took its name. Pevsner describes the building as having been constructed between 1900 and 1907, though English Heritage describes it as having been built between 1904 and 1906. A pamphlet produced by the London County Council notes that, though the Council had accepted an offer from the Asylum for the land by January 1901, construction could not begin until December 1904 as the trustees of the school needed time to erect new buildings elsewhere. The architect was James Greenwood Stephenson (1872–1950); and was designed during his time in the Housing of the Working Classes Branch of the London County Council Architect's Department. Susan Beattie states that it is one of the two "most successful" flatted estates in the first decade of the twentieth century (along with Stephenson's Chadworth Buildings in Lever Street).

Caledonian Road passes for about a mile and a half north–south through the London Borough of Islington. It connects North London, from Camden Road near its junction with Holloway Road, and central London's Pentonville Road in the south. It is known colloquially as the "Cally" and forms the entirety of the A5203.
