Saint Mary of the Assumption Church was a Catholic parish church of the Archdiocese of Chicago located in the Riverdale community area of Chicago, Illinois, United States. The parish was established in 1886. A new combined school and church building was constructed in 1917, followed by a purpose-built church—a brick-and-stone structure in a simplified Renaissance style—completed in 1957. In 2011, the parish merged with Queen of Apostles Parish in the suburb of Riverdale, Illinois. The former Saint Mary of the Assumption building has been vacant since that time. The church and its associated school were attended by Pope Leo XIV in his childhood through the 1960s, and his election as pope in 2025 has drawn renewed attention to the parish's legacy, now part of Christ Our Savior Parish.

Riverdale is one of two commuter rail stations on the Metra Electric main branch in Riverdale, Illinois, a village just southwest of the adjacent Riverdale neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The station is located at 137th Street and Illinois Street, and is 17.3 miles (27.8 km) away from the northern terminus at Millennium Station. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Rivedale is in zone D. As of 2018, Riverdale is the 172nd busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 146 weekday boardings.Riverdale is the first station south of Kensington/115th Street, where the Blue Island Branch and the South Shore Line split from the right of way. It is built on a bridge embankment south of 137th Street, which also carries Amtrak's City of New Orleans, Illini, and Saluki trains. A wrought-iron fence exists between the sidewalk and the street below the station, and bridges are available beneath the tracks for 137th and 138th Streets. Parking is primarily available along Illinois Street and the railroad tracks between 137th and 139th Streets, but street-side parking can also be found on the opposite side of Illinois Street between 137th Street and 137th Place, and along 137th Street west of the railroad bridge.

As of 2018, Ivanhoe is the 96th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 520 weekday boardings.Like the Riverdale station, Ivanhoe is built on a bridge embankment south of 144th Street, which also carries Amtrak's City of New Orleans, Illini, and Saluki trains. The waiting room is open 24 hours, is located on the north sidewalk, and contains ticket vending machines. Parking is available on the east side of the tracks on primarily north of Illinois Street between 144th and 145th Streets. Another parking lot is available across from this one on 144th Street, and a third can be found off the northeast corner of 144th Street and Atlantic Avenue. Street-side parking can also be found on 145th Street between Illinois Street and Atlantic Avenue in front of C. Kelly Franson Park. No bus connections are available at this station.

Altgeld Gardens Homes is a Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) public housing project located on the far south side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. It sits on the border of Chicago and Riverdale, Illinois. The residents are 97% African-American according to the 2000 United States Census. Built between 1944 and 1945 with 1,498 units, the development consists primarily of two-story row houses spread over 190 acres (0.77 km2).

The Pacesetter Gardens Historic District is a historic district encompassing twelve townhouses along South Lowe Avenue in Riverdale, Illinois. The townhouses were built in 1960 by Harry J. Quinn, a developer who constructed and advocated for multi-family housing. Prior to 1960, Riverdale was mainly a community of single-family homes; Pacesetter Gardens and another nearby development by Quinn diversified the city's housing and made it easier for lower-income residents to live there. Quinn, who was also an architect, designed the buildings, which feature simple exteriors with box bay windows and a horizontal emphasis. Ten of the twelve townhouses have eight units, while the remaining two have four and six respectively. Quinn planned each unit according to minimum house design, a technique popular with housing reformers that emphasized compactness and eliminated less essential rooms such as hallways and dining rooms.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 16, 2005.

As originally designated by the Social Science Research Committee at the University of Chicago and officially adopted by the City of Chicago, the Riverdale community area extends from 115th Street south to the city boundary at 138th Street and from the Illinois Central Railroad tracks east to the Bishop Ford Freeway.

147th Street (Sibley Boulevard) is one of two Metra Electric stations located on its Main Branch in Harvey, Illinois. The station is located on 147th Street (IL 83, also known as Sibley Boulevard), and Clinton Street, and is 19.0 miles (30.6 km) away from the northern terminus at Millennium Station. In Metra's zone-based fare system, 147th Street-Sibley Boulevard Station is in zone D. As of 2018, the station is the 62nd busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 829 weekday boardings.The station is named after both of the names for Illinois Route 83 in Harvey; Sibley Boulevard, and 147th Street. The bridge over Route 83 has a clearance of 13 ft 10 in (4.22 m), and part of the waiting room is built underneath the north side of the bridge. A large parking lot exists on the east side of the tracks between 147th Street and the Little Calumet River. A smaller parking lot exists on the southwest corner of Clinton and 146th Streets on the west side of the tracks. The station is to be bypassed beginning Monday, May 16, 2022 for major renovations, including bicycle parking, a kiss-and-ride, and an elevator to make the station accessible. The reconstruction is expected to take 12-15 months. During that time, the Ivanhoe and Harvey stations can be used to access Metra trains.

Thornridge High School is a public four-year high school located in Dolton, Illinois, a suburb about 20 miles south of Chicago. The school is part of Thornton Township High School District 205. Thornridge High School first opened to the public in 1960 after completing construction of the current main building. It serves the cities and villages of Dolton, Harvey, South Holland, Phoenix, Burnham, Calumet City, and Markham.

WNWI (1080 AM) is a time brokered radio station broadcasting an ethnic radio format. Licensed to Oak Lawn, Illinois, United States, it serves the Chicago area. The station is currently owned by the Birach Broadcasting Corporation. WNWI operates on a clear-channel frequency, with WTIC in Hartford, Connecticut; and KRLD in Dallas, Texas, the dominant Class A stations. WNWI's calls stand for "Northwestern Indiana", a reference to the station's former city of license of Valparaiso, Indiana. The station broadcast a full-service adult contemporary music format from Valparaiso from its sign-on in 1965 until the spring of 1998, when it officially moved into the Chicago market by changing its city of license to Oak Lawn and relocating its transmitter to Riverdale. The bulk of WNWI's programming is Polish language music, news, and talk programming. Other weekday programming includes Serbian Radio Chicago, a one-hour radio show hosted by Milorad Ravasi which incorporates news, music, and interviews from Serbian culture. On weekends, programming blocks variously target the German, Macedonian, Polish, and Serbian communities.
